Today's "Walking in Istanbul 2019" Video starts in Tünel Meydanı (Tunel Square). We walk on the Istiklal Street in Istanbul. This street is located in Beyoğlu district between the Tunel Square and the Taksim Square. The İstiklal Avenue was called during the Ottoman times Grande Rue de Pera and Cadde-i Kebir.
A visit to Istiklal Street is an opportunity to experience Istanbul. It is 1.4 kilometers long and houses boutiques, shops, malls, bookstores, art galleries, cinemas, theatres, cafés, pubs, nightclubs, patisseries and restaurants. The city is always busy, also at nighttime. This place is a favourite Istanbul nightlife district.
Shopping is also fun, because there are many opportunities in every price class. The nostalgic tram also runs through the Istiklal Avenue.
Istiklal Street is one of the best places to see in Istanbul. Come and visit Istanbul 2019.

Absolutely enjoyed the walk! Ecstatic over the architectural details 😍 I just wished you could have mentioned, what church it was or the places with the big gates or the place with the courtyard? Was this walk in the afternoon or around lunchtime? Also loved the diversity of the street music!! Thank very much!

It is 7:45 PM here so very early morning there. I have gotten behind watching your videos so I am now catching up. Beautiful weather here, in the 60's F and spring is here. Have a Bright day today and enjoy your weekend. Loved the walk, the sights and sounds, especially the street musicians. Saw A Mavi store which I am familiar with because of Kivanc., I am also a fan of Dimash Kudaibergen. Are you familiar with him? I love his music. He is from Kazakhstan. Amazing voice!

Check him out if you love music. Dimash is all over RU-vid. I believe he has had a concert in Turkey, I know in Great Britain, and at the Kremlin in Russia, and in China just to name a few places. I love music so it is really interesting to me.

Unfortunately Istiklal is ruined nowadays. Arabs in burkas on every corner, construction going on in the middle of the square and a lot of fancy places there closed down thanks to Erdogan.
@DieWilWheatonDie
@DieWilWheatonDie 5 лет назад
samanda brown as a Turkish person I can not perceive seeing a place that once was synonymous with Turkey's liberal youth, LGBT prides, hipsters, bikers, tattoo parlors, bars, clubs, punks, metal scene and everything that goes against estabilishment get flooded by Arab migrants, women in burkas, refugees, Middle Eastern tourists and all that while most places there shut down as anything but "ruined". These people will be the end of what once was a fairly secular and progressive nation.
@DieWilWheatonDie
@DieWilWheatonDie 5 лет назад
Pan-Turkic Nationalist because every country is concerned about projecting it's own influence and having good PR, nothing pathetic about it. I consider Arabic culture to be toxic and I take offence when Turkey is associated with it, and flooding our country with Arabs and Arabizing it is wrong and alarming and I will oppose those who are okay with it. Keep Arabs away from here.
@DieWilWheatonDie
@DieWilWheatonDie 5 лет назад
samanda brown I don't dislike Arabic people for their skin color or ethnicity, I merely dislike the culture where women cover themselves from head to toe and people that support governments that execute gay people for who they are or punish apostates. Turkey is a Muslim-majority country too even though it's not Arabic or Middle Eastern, but we went through big social reforms first in 19th century as Ottoman Empire, then with Ataturk's reforms when he founded Turkish Republic as a secular, liberal democracy with Western values, then society had evolved naturally, electing female leaders of the country, organizing gay pride parades and overall going through social progress. When after all these years I see Arab tourists, migrants and refugees on every corner of my city wearing full burkas or having long Islamist beards to me it feels like what it is for an American to see Confederate flags again - it's a symbol of something we fought against as a society and moved away from a long time ago and it's sad to see it make a comeback. After all we, Turks, we're stereotyped as Arabs or as Middle Eastern and thrown in the same category as these people merely because most Turks are still Muslims despite being non-practicing, and when I see Arab migrants, refugees and tourists on every corner of Turkey with their women in burkas and men in rugs and bushy beards all I could think of is "these people go against every principle my country was founded upon" and "I hope foreign tourists that see them know these people aren't Turkish". I don't care about people's skin color or racial background, but I do care about culture and I dislike the culture of toxic masculinity, patriarchy, religious fundamentalism and homophobia in Arab societies - it has nothing to do with their race but everything to do with their customs.
@YG-cs5el
@YG-cs5el 5 лет назад
@@DieWilWheatonDie Then I guess you won't be upset when you are denied entry to a country with zero tolerance towards discrimination, because you are "against every principle to that country was founded upon". I am sure you would defend yourself with "I'm just a tourist and I'm not here to change your constitution or anything", but guess what other people might feel the same. If you are really going to do it, think first, hate later. Not the other way around.
@DieWilWheatonDie
@DieWilWheatonDie 5 лет назад
Yoann Gourcuff I don't dislike Arabs based on their skin color, race, etc, I dislike their current culture - hating people because of their skin color is wrong, but there is nothing wrong about criticizing cultures, especially if they're toxic. When there are millions of people from theocratic dictatorships where adultery or homosexual relations or apostasy get you a death sentence come to my country and instead of adapting bring their culture with them I have a right to be concerned. Secular and progressive Arabs that don't cover women from head to toe or think being gay should get you executed are welcome, people who think that stoning human beings to death for adultery or apostasy is fine are not.
