In this viedo I review 2 Japanese sunscreens I love. The Issehan Kiss me Mommy sunscreen and the Canmake Mermaid UV Gel sunscreen. Both sunscreens are fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and they have a light texture. I review those sunscreens on my dark skin as a black woman and let you know if they are truly invisible or not.
Other suncreens I find that can work for oily skin and under makeup in the fall/winter/spring seasons are :
Instree Hyaluronic acid watery sun gel

I forgot to say that the Kiss Me Mommy sunscreen uses chemical filters while the Canmake sunscreen uses Both mineral and chemical filters and those type of sunscreens are called hybrid. Thanks !

Hey Dianna glad to have you back! Great video! What is the best all year sunscreen? Also, what are your thoughts on Retinols?

Hi and Happy New Year !!! Have you seen the last videos ? RU-vid does not always send notifications.... A sunscreen that works all year around.... Difficult... Isntree watery sun gel, which I have already reviewed (the link is in the desription box) is in my opinion the best option for all skin types (unfortunately it broke me out). It is moisturizing but not too much for oily skin in spring fall and winter and dry skin should be able to like it during any seasons and they can still use a moisturizer underneath when necessary but for the summer time I don't think it would work the best on oily skin, because you can't do anything to turn a sunscreen matte. Oily skin in the summer can be a nightmare. I think people with oily skin like mine struggle the most with sunscreen (it's even worse if you have to consider makeup) Also isntree has a very light cast. On me nothing too bad but it can be too much on someone with a deeper skin tone. I have seen reviews of Black women with deeper skin tones and they thought it was too much for them. In that case, the second option is Isehan Mommy sunscreen because it is 100% invisible on all skin tones. But it is more moisturizing than Isntree so again not the best on oily skin in the summer but I have been able to use it in the summer for years despite that... because of this gel/cream texture...But I am not sure everyone with oily skin could deal with that. The good thing is that it is waterproof. So those 2 sunscreens have their pros and cons. People with normal skin types should be able to manage both easily any time of the year. I wish there was the perfect sunscreen for all year around for everyone but with the change of temperature , sun exposure, humidity, our skin also changes...sometimes you just have to adapt your skincare products for the best results. I recently talked about that on my recent video about hydration in the winter....

About retinols... ( the ones we've seen at supermarkets for a while from L'Oréal, Olay...). Honestly they have been existing for a while and I have never seen anyone used it where I could see a difference. In real life or online. So I am not impressed... They belong to the family of vitA/retinoids (prescribed under medication by Dermatologists) which are the only ones (the medication not what is in store) truly proven to be working so far. Now those past years new derivatives have been added that ""MAY"" work better. Retinols were the first known ones, but now you can find retinaldehyde or granative retinol and others that """seem""" more interested and les aggressive to the skin. But you also need to find the right brand that makes the right formula. I tested granative retinoids with Dr Sam's Bunting nightly serum (the lowest concentration) and saw a different in my skin overall texture and brightness.. (but it's not like I have significant signs of aging on my skin so my review on fighting aging is limited). I had my older sister tried both retinaldehyde serums from the brand Geek and Gorgeous for months and she saw no benefits. Also this brand does not use multiple actives in those serums when the brand Dr Sam's does. In order to try them properly, in my opinion, they are the skincare products where you must be willing to spend more money to get a product from a reputable brand, well formulated and with several actives on top of the retinoid derivatives to get the best results. Brands known but very reputable for their formulation like Paula's Choice but also brands mostly talked about by older RU-vidrs like Drmtly, Medik8 or Allies of Skin or the Indie brand lDr Sam's Bunting is the way to go in my opinion. You need to be very comfortable and satisfied with your current skincare routine while being willing to give up on strong actives you are already using before trying them, like strong exfoliants... Otherwise it will be too irritating. That way you can also actually see if they bring something more to your skin or not. When you are comfortable with your current skincare routine, don't change any of your other skincare products anymore. Only use what you have and what your skin already likes. Add to your routine a derivative retinoid at the lowest percentage of concentration the brand has...if your skin is fine try the above concentration etc... if your skin is still fine see a Dermatologist to get the retinoids prescription (more proven efficacy and much cheaper since you will use a tiny bit only) with the lowest concentration and go up from there very slowly but surely. Most people are not willing to do that they rush things and even if their skin is not sensitive in the first place they will damage their skin because they want to go too fast... that's also one of the reason it is under prescription only. More people will damage their skin otherwise... Also, it was originally made for people with acne in mind so people with oily skin will probably have less problem than people with dry skin. As for me my skin is oily but so sensitive that I am scared of the true retinoids anyway... And although I am 41 soon what I have been doing so far makes me not worry so much about signs of skin aging. At least for now but I still watch older youtubers to know what is out there and to be able to respond to comment like yours. Honestly older RU-vidrs tend to always end up using the real deal (prescription version) and they seem to all see more benefits from it when their skin can handle it. As for me, I think I'll keep playing with the derivatives only from time to time to see what my skin can handle and keep on focusing on other aspects of "anti-aging: like sport and diet, and simply a proper skincare routine that makes the skin healthy and always working on being happy or at peace (mental health..). For the skincare part for me that means anti-acne, fight-hyperpigmentation, smoother texture, maintenance (clean+moisturizer), protect and prevent (sunscreen on the face). This is a big part of "anti-aging" too and retinoids... are not the only ingredients that can work on that part. Check Dr Sam's Bunting video on retinoids, rerinols... she explains all of that very well... It's a very long answer but I hope it helps.

I always love your sunscreen videos! I was wondering if you would be willing to review the new EltaMD UV Clear Deep Tinted sunscreen? 👍🏾

Hi! If only I had seen your message earlier. I have an American friend in the US right now but she is coming back to France in 2 days only... and the brand mainly sell in the US. The deep shade is only available on their US website right now and they don't ship outside the US...I did not even know that they had launched a deep tint. You taught me something... I would definitely review it when I can get a hold of it. Thanks for sharing this information.

Update: I got the Elta MD hybrid sunscreen. It gets a pass in the world of mineral sunscreens that work for melanated skin, but as far as I’m concerned Cotz Flawless Richly Tinted SPF 50 and Olay Mineral Sensitive SPF 30 are still the mineral sunscreens to beat in terms of not leaving a cast, even though Cotz is shiny. I just found the Elta MD one a little streaky, and it also pilled a lot for me with reapplication. (I am NW45 shade for reference.)
