Looking for the best kayak bait bucket? I am, so I tested the Baitshark kayak bait bucket vs the traditional Frabill kayak bait bucket. If you have a kayak live bait bucket, you have had live bait die on you - even if you have a bait bucket bubbler. Thanks for introducing the Bait Shark to us. I don’t use a kayak but use the live bait wells on my boat as a place to put my bait bucket when I’m running from one fishing spot to another. When I slow down to troll or stop to anchor, I remove the bait bucket from the live well and put it over the side. This way, I don’t have to net a small bait in a huge bait well (or even a smaller bait well). In addition, if I kept the bait in the bait well instead of in a bait bucket in the bait well, I would have to keep the bait well pump running the entire time I am trolling or anchored. All of this is to say I’m not sure the Bait Shark will fit through the opening in my bait wells. But it sure looks inviting.

The key for me was the reduced drag. I am going to drill the holes in the bottom like I did on my other one to increase the flow.

Could also test speed with trolling motor at fixed speed setting.

I use a small igloo cooler. Keep a couple of frozen water bottles with a wet towel or newspapers on top. Keeps minnows alive all day. You should test it.

I've been watching some Malaysian kayaking videos and bait tubes seem to be popular over there. So, I been scheming on building one. Seems to be more better solution than to carry a heavy tub or drag a bucket. Thanks for posting another idea.

The only difference in that scenario is the baitshark floats level and will hold more water. That could mean you could keep more bait in it than the frabill.

I'm new to kayaking and plan to fish in some local harbors here in California. I figure the frabill would have some drag and I was actually thinking I would need something to keep my kayak from being blown around so much. Would u say using this frabill bucket slow down the kayak enough to fish a spot with some wind/current pushing the kayak around? If not would it be worth it to modify the bucket to actually drag more in the water and I'd just pick the bucket up when I was to move spots and throw it back in to use as a "drag net/anchor" type of deal? Thanks in advance!!
