This IKEA is in Woodbridge, Va. My favorite place to shop. I have so much IKEA in my home. My sewing table is 32 years old and still going strong. When we purchased our home in 1991, my ONE request was I had to have my own space for a sewing room. I have, over the years, been able to make it exactly to my vision. If I have a big project going, I don’t have to put everything away, I can just close the door. Happy IKEA shopping everyone.
Love to have my own craft room. Next year, I am taking a section of a shipping container in my husband's work space and turning it to my craft room this is great ideas.
Sometimes these videos are really similar-- especially the IKEA ones. Yours is so useful! I really like how many options you give and how you consider that people have different budgets. Thanks :)
I am at my local IKEA at least once a month and has never seen several of these items! I will have to look again! We use Ivar shelving in wide bedroom closets. Super sturdy. One comment about magnetic tool bars though! Use them a lot and your tools become so magnetized that small metal objects like sewing pins, little grommets, hooks/eyes and jewelry findings cling to them. This would seem like an advantage until that jump ring refuses to face the right direction in your pliers or sewing pins jump onto your scissors and stop them cutting, or if you don't notice in time, you close the scissors on them and damage the blade.
I didn’t even know that IKEA had a ‘utility’ section! I live in Europe and haven’t really been to IKEA very often but I’ve just moved into a house where I will have a dedicated craft room (finally) and was happy to come across your vid. There is an IKEA about 30 minutes away where I hope to be spending a lot more time checking out your craft room organizing ideas. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👏👏👏
Those picture ledges are great for storing rubber stamps mounted on wood. Some of us still have lots of those we’re not yet willing to part with. The ledges are deep enough to contain double rows of stamps, so if you put the taller stamps behind the smaller stamps, you can easily see everything on the shelf. The spice racks would also work, but I’m not sure it’s as cost-efficient a solution as the ledges.
I use the picture ledges to store my glitter bottles. I have so, so, so many but it is hard to find storage for them and still see everything I have (also helps in ensuring I stop buying duplicates). They also look nice as well. In another room, they would be great for storing spices as well. Love these shelves.
I have the Ivar fold down table unit (without the extra side shelved units) in my craft room and it's incredible. It holds so much and I've had no issues with weight on it at all. I use my sewing machine on it and it holds a tonne of craft supplies. And in my tiny 9x6ft room, I needed something small but highly functional and adaptable. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Lee x
@@mkmoody2870 It's fantastic, I love mine. And I've had no issues with the table shaking when my machine is going full speed which is a bonus. I highly recommend the Ivar for a sewing/craft room.
The Norden Gateleg table is an excellent craft table, especially when you add locking casters. Folds down to 6" or expand one or both sides and has 6 storage drawers too. Still my favorite.
The tubs with the greens lids are amazing. They stack on top of eachother, so you can really optimize storage with them! I used them when I organized my pantry, it works great. Tip: I love labeling my tubs so I can find my stuff quick. But I hate the fight to remove the labels. So I started to use masking tape for labels. Easy to rip of, easy to write on, and easy to remove later. And it's cheap.
I know it's not a secret from 'ick-ee-uh' - but I found 3 used large white Alex units on casters at a studio closing for $25 each! I love those things. They're so EASY to roll around - and I didn't even have to assemble them! Old cardboard jewelry boxes make great divider trays in the drawers, and I also use cutlery drawer dividers. I store my 3" Distress ink pads on their sides in a money holder from an old Monopoly game at the front of one of the shallow Alex drawers. great video - tfs!
Love searching through IKEA. I use the magnetic metal bars over my desk and have adapted one to sit on my desk, I put my die’s straight onto them when I start/finish die cutting and also to make sure I don’t lose my little ones when tidying up. Have to go and have another mooch to see if we have new items.
I bought the picture rails a few years ago, and they were the perfect size for all my rolls of ribbons. I attached them to the wall right above my workspace, which made it handy to grab, and to remember to use them!
I have found so many great organization supplies for my crafting in the kitchen area. Me and my crafting friends always share with each other when we found something new.
Love IKEA for my Craftroom and have used some of what you showed but never thought to specifically look in those particular rooms for craft furniture THANKS!
Wow, I’ve just found your channel and your organisation tips are great. My husband and I live in a small 1 bed flat with 2 little dogs, space is tight. You have given me so many ideas to use all over my flat to help organise and maximise storage space. 😁
After not having use of my sewing room because my daughter was set up in there during the pandemic working from home, I finally last summer got my room back. Freshened it up with new storage trolleys on castors. Completely went thru EVERY fabric, pattern, notions…got rid of so much. And reorganized everything. Now I have the incentive to create again.
I don’t have an ikea close by, I’ve always wanted to go to the store. It was really helpful to see those areas of the store and to hear your ideas. I think I’ll actually browse the store online now that I have a better idea of things they have! Thank you!
Find a friend or two or three who would do an overnight IKEA trip with you. Leave at o'dark thirty Sat morning, have breakfast on the road and get to the store just as it opens. Walk the *entire* store, every aisle, taking pictures & making notes in the catalogue you purchased as you entered the store. You're not buying anything on this Day #1... have lunch in the store --Swedish Meatballs, of course!-- and keep yourself well hydrated. Plan on leaving the store between 3:00 and 4 pm to check in to the moderately priced hotel you reserved nearby. Between the time you check-in to the hotel, and Sun morning store opening time, you've slept, had dinner, consulted your notes and whatever notes/measurements you brought from home and made decisions on what to buy. Go back to the store Sun morning, fill out the paperwork for what pieces you want to purchase, shanghai one or two hardy IKEA associates and let them fill your flatbed cart. I've never had anything but *sterling* service from those youngsters, especially when a $20 bill miraculously shows up at the beginning of the shopping trip. ;-) I suggest more than one vehicle if all are buying some furniture. Flat-pack pieces are notoriously heavy, and if you try putting six tall bookcases in the back of a station wagon, you might not get out of the parking lot! 🤣
I found out recently that Ikea has a pickup location about half an hour from my house. So instead of driving all the way to the store, I order online and pick it up from there. Of course, it's not as fun as exploring the store, but it does save me a lot of time (and money too !!). Though I do like the idea of doing an overnight girl's trip as suggested by another commenter.
Garage storage for (heavy) completed scrapbooks...great idea! My last apartment had built-in shelves which were great for my scrapbooks. I've been trying to figure out what to do with them at my new place. I'll definitely have to check this out on my next IKEA run! Thanks!
I love Ikea for their storage supplies, I liked the bathroom rolling carts for my shower because it has holes in the carts so water can drain through. I can store my shampoo and conditioners in the walk in shower. Thank you!!
Thank you for these ideas. I had not thought of children's storage & I loved the fold out desk in the garage section. I sure wish I had an IKEA closer to where I live.
I love all the ideas! So inspiring for doing the most of all the nooks in the scraproom. Btw in the white and green unit with casters (kids section) you can hang things as in a pegboard!!! So more storage!
I am awaiting this, I am in love with IKEA.. I have been for nearly 40 years.. I would love to get some of the things of yesteryear..,.. sheesh. Divided trays are so perfect. I have several divided trays that fit in my Alex drawers, kitchen and desk.. I have several sizes and the older ones too. Three different whites and navy. Age does change things. Frames are awesome as well, trays, and bits and pieces of all kinds. Our one bathroom is all IKEA. Then other is partly IKEA and other stuff. I adore the lighted mirror/ medicine cabinet, Wow! Lots of storage as well. OH the bins…. I buy all kinds of bins. I think all of my bins are from IKEA. The knife magnetic bars in several areas in our house. Superb I love the market place is my happy place. I never go in with out $500. To spare.
Walmart is knocking off a lot of IKEA pieces. Especially carts and picture ledges. Also amazon has some of these items or similar- but IKEA does ship if you’re interested in that. It’s 4 hours from me… so when I go see the family I take advantage as it’s about 30 mins from them.
Great tips here! I really love the plate/picture racks....I have like 50 plaques from my fav sports team and also my Dad has 50 patents that were all mounted on wooden plaques....the racks make it so much easier to mount to the wall and the items can easily be rearranged!! I’m re-doing my basement after having redecorated it after severe flooding. Thank you so much for posting this! Obviously I need display items for my craft room too lol 😊 TYFS! ❤️🦋💜
I ❤LOVE♥️ the Alexa drawer units! The drawers are really deep, and the kitchen spice drawer organizer is perfect for small jars of glitter, beads, etc. if the jars are clear they are easily seen by just opening the drawer.
OMG, you've just given me way too many options. Now I really have to think🤦🏻♀️. Thanks for the ideas. Definitely will help me out in more ways than 1👍
Thank you! The garage storage could really work for my basement craft area. I’m so motivated.Oh! And the metal rack will help me keep up with my tweezers for weeding.
As much organizing stuff I have bought from ikea, I had never considered the garage section. And I am looking for something like that first thing you showed (the table and surrounding shelves) at a reasonable price forever. And I have scanned the kid’s section but they seem to have added a lot. Thinking about the idea that they have smaller drawers etc. to hold our crafting stuff is brilliant! One thing I also love in Ikea is the kitchen islands. So many configurations and price points! And they are a terrific for a work space. Thanks. This video had lots of Ikea ideas that I hadn’t seen before and I have looked at a lot.
I have furnished my craft room with about 97% ikea everything!! I just moved into a smaller home and need to reconsider my space. Some of the pieces I have reused in the master closet, the laundry room, and my husband has 3 of my cabinets he is using for his tool storage in the massive garage. I am sad to say that in my planning at this moment, I have not figured out to use 2 of my tables. I am doing this slowly but with purpose. Please keep sharing your thoughts on items so your followers can think outside the box!! The kitchen is one of my favorite places to shop for items all over my home.
I love the versatility of IKEA items, and it sounds like you are experiencing that with reusing the items all around your new home. I do hope you are able to find a way to use your remaining pieces.
Been loving on my Atlanta IKEA since it in opened in 2005. I have the furniture to prove it’s good. Definitely check out the “as is” first thing Monday morning. I love going through the store and finding items for my art room and home. I’ve found items in the kitchen , kids dept, etc. It is like a treasure hunt for sure. A bit disappointed that prices have increased post Covid.
Yes, the "as-is" section is always a great place to check out. I'm not surprised that the costs have gone up post Covid since almost all prices have gone up everywhere.
I had never noticed the Trofast kids' line but that may be a better choice for me than the Kallax cubes or Billy book shelves I was planning on getting (just moved, new craft space.) Thanks for such a great video!
The partition trays can fit over a metal tray by sitting on it. The video shows it taking the slide in space of a tray, but it can double up if the metal tray isn’t over filled.
Those are good ideas, but my favorite is the Alex drawers. I've got 3 of them and I never felt so organized until I got them. I love my file cabinete for my stamps. Thanks!!!
Learned a lot by watching the video. I have bought some of the cabinets, because you can hide many things behind the doors. They are wonderful. Now that have seen the picture ledges I will have to get a few for ribbons. Thank you.
The other day, after moving to my retirement place, I was thinking of the video you did a few years ago that I commented on at the time. And like RU-vid is reading my damn mind again, this video just shot up in my feed. Thanks for some fresh ideas I hadn't considered before.
You've made me want to visit IKEA! The closest one is still quite a distance from us, but I'm going to look into getting there. Great ideas. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this organizational video Girl! I’m still setting up my craft room space and labeling everything with sticky notes in the fronts. Using my Mama’s old furniture for now and making it work. Love all the new IKEA organizational ideas you showed. IKEA is about 1 and half from me. Shared this video. 🤩🤩🤩
Elisa, just wanted to say I’m loving your content ma’am. This video hit the mark as I’m trying to reconfigure my craft room and the children’s section was something I’ve never considered. Tfs
I haven't been to IKEA in awhile and definitely need to do so! Sooo many ideas. Cute story-I was traveling with a sports team and we stayed across from an IKEA. Two Swedish players went to check it out and came back with Swedish Fish. They said "we don't have Swedish Fish in Sweden". :)
I see you love casters. One little warning. On the rolling carts, know the weight the casters will take. Some are very easy to break. So if you want to put weight in them like fabric or paper, change out the casters for dollies.
Difficult to beat IKEA on storage! 🙌🏼 I wouldn’t personally recommend Ivar system for a craft room. They’re super flimsy & unstable for regular use. Probably why the Kalax range is so popular with crafters as it’s heavier & sturdier.
I definitely have & use many Ikea items in my craft room - I have the Bror work bench with drawers which is mainly for my Cricut, a Trofast unit, & 2 different Billy bookcases. New to me from your video: the bars with various canvas hanging options. I’m in 🇨🇦, so not sure if we have those but I’ll check them out soon. Thanks for sharing!
my entire studio, pc for design and photography, and the other half for bag making and all kind of craft and diy stuff is 90% Ikea haha. Using almost all of the solutions you showed. Very nice video. I might have a look again at the bathroom roller shelves. Could use one or two.
Great secrets, Elisa. I have a slim space behind the door of my craft room that I would like to utilize, so the next time I'm at IKEA, I'll be checking out those new wooden poles and slim display shelves. I hope you found some fun items for your craft room that you'll share on a future episode. =)
I use the pocket shoe organizers for behind doors. You can put so many things in them! Paint brushes, paint tubes, etc. In my last house, I had two large pantry doors in that tiny kitchen! AND, nothing fell out of them when the kids slammed the doors!
I ordered a two tier lazy susan from QVC. It was a free shipping and handling day. I'm using it on my craft/sewing etc. table to corral supplies and decorations. Thanks for the video!!😻👍🐈
One thing I think could be great is to use shelving units, on casters, as closet doors - this can take advantage of the dead space between the closet door and where the hangers start. it could turn a closet into a closable craft center.
Thanks for the helpful information. I live in Toronto and our Ikea branches are very disorganized. Most products are not available on the shelves, and you don't know how to locate your needed item and there's no one to help you out and if there's anyone, they are too busy, tired and agitated. And sometimes. when shoppers search through things, they make them messy, dirty, misplaced and/or damaged and there's no one to put them back in the place. Hence, on weekends, if you visit our Ikea branches, it looks like visiting a town, immediately after tsunami.
I bought an IKEA drink caddy (SUNNERSTA Trolley) and paper machéd 17 drawers into it! 5 on the lower two levels, facing one side, and 2 at each end (taking up the space below the side drawers, due to the side bars* on the caddy ); on the top level, I have 2 stacked drawers at one end, with an open box that holds my active tools and rulers beside those; on that top level there's also a full-length drawer for long rulers and hammers, tucked underneath (*bar level).
I know everyone loves the Alex drawers for organizing - but my favorite craft room drawers are my NORDLI drawers. They hold all my stamps, dies, embossing folders, stencils etc PERFECTLY. I use the 40cm wide ones and they fit 2 rows of stamp storage pockets beutifully - making it easy to access it all. 😊
Here in Australia we don't have the range you have in the US. 😢 Our store is probably half the size of your, population would govern. Supply issues still happening also. Love your ideas. Thank you
