Hi please respond its urgent, On your Google sheets for best programming laptop there's the lenovo slim pro 7 which is the sweet spot for price for me but on the best buy link u posted it's only available with the 7735HS and when I went to search for the 7840HS all I could find was the lenovo yoga slim pro 7 now question ARE THEY THE SAME LAPTOP? They look identical with the same specs but I don't want to make a mistake and go for something that's not what I want. Please respond

@@rondon7145 in my opinion you're better off with a gaming laptop, a nice pick would be an HP Victus laptop, you get a dedicated graphics card (GTX 1650/RTX 3050) for graphic intensive work, a snappy CPU that won't disappoint (AMD/Intel) and a very effective cooling system at almost half the price of the Dell XPS 15 Disadvantages are the loud fans and the heaviness.

That's kind of the reality if it though. Something at the $500-750 price point probably isn't going to be impressive if you need to do graphic or cpu intensive tasks lol. My major practically required a minimum of a 3070 on a laptop because exams and labs were rendered and everything. Super cool, but $3k on a laptop that is already obsolete was stupid as hell. Also, a 3070 is hardly enough for some of the math or developing students, it kind of just depends how much you genuinely need. I'd say 98% of all people are fine with a 60 series or last gen AMD 😅

Picked up the Zenbook 14X and ultimately ended up returning it.. Despite Josh's review, I found it getting very hot overall more often than not and the fan was louder/running with a higher pitched whine. On top of that, if you like to read a lot, the OLED screen has a bit of grain/screen door effect that dithers the text and for me, made it hard to read fine/small text which was another dealbreaker. After trying about 6~ highly recommended laptops (also featured in this review) I ultimately settled on the HP Spectre 2023 i7 with the 3:2 FHD+ screen. I have a set of benchmarks I run and I got 11 hours, 45 minutes on my 200nit RU-vid video rundown test on the Spectre vs 7 hours 20 minutes on the Zenbook 14X. The battery life on the Spectre is on another level for a Windows laptop. Happy hunting!

The Zenbook 14x is running an H series CPU with a single fan, which is quite unfortunate. Notebookcheck said something similar to you, so who knows if there's just differences between units or if Josh has newer firmware that improved things

Size + lightweight does work well for students IMO. Screen size is more than just how many lines of code, but also how much you see when using side-by-side windows, and how big videos look. I switched from a Surface Laptop (very good for its time) to a LG Gram and the upgrade in screen real estate while reducing weight was astounding. Ever since, I haven't bothered to look at a 14-incher.

One of the aspects you need to consider is the charging method. It is a serious advantage if a laptop can be charged using a regular USB-C charger (even if slower). It is incredibly useful if you forget your charger, and practically everyone can help you. Or, when you can go to another place for a few days (vacation, training, conference) and bring just a tiny and light GaN charger that works with all your electronics.

Great video Josh! One word of caution for those who are purchasing laptops for software development in college - contact your Computer Science department first! I know that the university I went to had us working on projects that would only run on x86 Windows for several classes. It wasn't a problem for students with Macbooks at the time because we could just use parallels or bootcamp (preferable) but the M1 Pro cannot run x86 Windows. I would simply double check and make sure that you can use an Apple Silicon Macbook to do all your course work. I know personally, I only use Mac laptops since Apple Silicon and the MBP 14 would probably be my pick unless I didn't have a choice.

I got a 2020 g14, and stock, it wasn't great for school at first. Fans were clogged up with dust, and so it made a very noticeable whirring noise. I was debating getting a new machine. Instead, I went the more cost-effective route. After buying a new pair of fans ($20) and upgrading the thermals to k5 pro paste ($10) instead of thermal pads and thermogrizzly kryonaut on the dies ($15), It can now passively cool itself while doing anything that doesn't require the GPU (CAD and other simulation software), which it was never able to do stock. Being able to code, surf the web, do any video playback, etc, on a silent machine without buying a new macbook was fantastic. Moral of the story, you can breathe new life into a machine with the magic of new thermals or maybe a new battery. My battery is at 70% capacity but still lasts me a good 7 hours straight(I've done quite a bit of extra battery saving stuff behind the scenes though), so plenty for classes. If it ever does get bad within the next few years, it costs $50 for a new one. Learning the basics of how to work on your machines is a real money saver!

The best laptop for students coming from a recent college graduate who was on a budget and studied IT is actually the HP 15.6" laptop 15-dy2792wm. It can be found for under $400 and has the latest 12th gen Intel core i3, 8gb ram, and 256gb SSD storage. I had an older version with the 10th Gen i3 and very similar specs which allowed me to do highschool work and 2 years of college. For most students who won't be doing intensive/demanding task I recommend this laptop without a shadow of a doubt. As somebody who had the Razer Blade 14 & MacBook Pro 14, I can safely say the Blade is better UNLESS you want the maximum possible battery life. The problem with Macs for software development is that something just do not work, like VMs and other software that just isn't as good as on Windows or in some cases doesnt exist at all on macOS. Thr price of MacBooks are also insanely high for usable configurations. Personally, the only reason I returned my Razer Blade 14 was because I got a Framework Laptop 16 instead. I never noticed to warmer feeling keyboard and while the price is higher, it is far more upgradeable than a Mac, with two RAM slots, a removable Wi-Fi card (and you WILL want to replace it because the default one isn't amazing) and a replaceable SSD. Again, the price is very high, but when you match the specs of the MacBook Pro 14 & Razer Blade 14, it isn't very different. TL;DR: Unless you need macOS or the maximum possible battery life, there are better options than the MacBooks for software developers. And as somebody who values right to repair, the Macs are instant non starters for me. And sure, the Framework Laptop 16 certainly isn’t going to be perfect, but unless you need a laptop with Nvidia GPUs (for CUDA or OptiX), then I'd suggest you give Framework's laptops a chance and try to get an order in. The AMD Ryzen Framework Laptops look to be very good and very likely better than the already good Intel models.

Upgradability + repearability make it the perfect heavy-duty laptop that can resist getting carried around daily for 5 years. I can't think of another laptop that could remain as useful after 4 or 5 years of study. Most in the list would become obsolete (outdated processor or OS, maybe even both!) or simply are not made to withstand the amount of work that a normal student puts on their laptop.

As an engineering student myself, depending on your specific field, you may need a more special laptop. For their mechanical engineer path, my school has some fairly strict requirements. As we'll be using Solidworks, a Mac is not allowed, and whatever laptop I chose needed to have a GPU support by that CAD software. Ultimately (I paid a pretty penny for it too), I ended up getting a Dell Precision 5770. The build quality is amazing, and it has 8+hrs of battery life. I specced it with an Intel i7-12700H CPU,an Nvidia RTX A2000 GPU, 32 GB of memory, 1TB of storage, and the 4K (3840×2400) touch display. It is not a small or light laptop however, it has a 17" display and weighs 5.5lbs. It does exist as a smaller 15" or 14", as a Precision 5570 and 5480 respectively.

one laptop that hasn't been mentioned but is worthy of consideration imo is the Asus ROG Flow X13, especially the 2023 version. Gorgeous 13.5" 16:10 touchscreen panel, great CPU (7940HS), stellar battery life (Ben G Kaiser measured 12 hours of productivity and 10 hours of video playback in his tests), 1 TB of storage and the option for dedicated graphics up to a 4070 (tho at 60w). The integrated graphics is also plenty fast for most people, the 780m is the one powerful the ROG Ally and other Ayaneo handhelds which puts it at around a desktop 1050 / 1050ti, so definitely enough for indie games the only downsides imo are the soldered RAM (16 GB for every model except 32 GB for the 4070 one) and the display only being FHD on the model with only integrated graphics and QHD for the others.

I bought a Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro, and a Macbook basically for the lols and out of FOMO, and I absolutely LOATHE using the Magic Keyboard on the iPad for anything that's not a flat surface. Trying to watch media on it in bed or on a soft surface, and it tips over like 90% of the time. It can be counter-balanced by putting your phone on the keyboard itself to act as an extra weight. But it's really a headache. I would not recommend it. I got the iPad for art, so I enjoy it for what it does. And it's a very handy device. But I haven't found it work in a way that a laptop or PC does. It seems like a hassle. HOWEVER, since I need the iPad, and I don't need a laptop. As an engineering student taking my sophomore/junior level classes I do not regret it. Edit: I use a Samsung s6 lite for notes and my laptop for the study sessions in library/my room that follow

I bought a Vivobook S14 X and will be reselling it. The fan is beyond loud and the CPU (Intel i7-12700H) easily reaches 70+°C idling. SMH, will be sticking to my old Vivobook Flip 14 with an AMD R5 4600U. A joke in performance, but at least it is completely silent and doesn't get hot.

@thesloth_r4m157 Год назад
@@kyleebrahim8061 well, the Swift Go will give you no gaming performance (wouldn't be too confident in video editing either), no touchscreen and from what I have seen seems to have a badly designed keyboard. If that doesn't hold you back then it might be a reasonable choice for you. The biggest pro of this laptop seems to be the screen from what I can tell and that gets progressively less good the lower the price goes

I want to love Framework, but apparently they have poor battery life and really loud fans. Hopefully the Rizen option will help some, but I don't think those versions are out yet. I got the Yoga 7i for 549 and the Yoga 6 was available for 499 at best buy. I think these are actual student budget prices and outstanding laptops for the price. I don’t think laptops worth upwards of 900 are budget or student friendly prices. The Yoga 7i I got is an outstanding deal, amazing keyboard, good speakers, decent screen, good battery life and amazingly build quality, it’s also 360. The only downside is a U series processor. Additionally, there are often several different specs under one name so comparisons need to be made between equal specs. Most of the time the price difference between EU and US is within 10% when adjusted for tax and comparing equal specs.
