Lucky Catch! Weird Train Stuff At End Of Train Passes Me & Immediately I Get A Surprise! 3 Trains Passing Train Station With Caboose. Train With Loram Ballast Cleaning Equipment Passes Long Coal Train In Catlettsburg, Kentucky on ex Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. 3 CSX trains pass near Big Sandy Junction at the 3 track main line. CSX timed this one perfect for me. CSX made sure the first train with Loram equipment passed me before sending the huge coal train by in the opposite direction. Hobo Shoestring was here also. I just missed him. He bailed off of a train right here but I didn't see him. He might have been here the day after me, I'm not sure. Check out the old passenger station and caboose! A viewer told me about the train station so I checked it out. This is a great place to watch trains. Amtrak also goes through here but we missed it by a couple of hours. I went here with RU-vidr 1960gambit. He was filming next to the train station and can been seen in the video. Check out his channel and subscribe!
Catlettsburg is between Kenova, West Virginia and Ashland, Kentucky. We also filmed trains in those cities. Best frequency for CSX is 160.230. Filmed April 22, 2022.

Very nice depot and caboose kept in good condition. No train setting speed records but that track sure curves as it follows the river. That ballast cleaner et al looks like one mean ride at the theme park. That southbound coal train was like a conveyor belt and the last freight train was like a rolling chemical pipeline. A great day for the JT viewers

Another well -chosen place! The images of the arrival of a first train crossing a first curve and immediately after a second reverse curve offer an interesting perspective. Barely this train passed, one second presents itself in the other direction. Perfect synchronization! Thank you for these images!

Fantastic location with the gentle s-curve on a three-track main. The 9 upper quadrant signals protecting the three tracks at the end of the curves just add to this great filming spot. Beautiful depot, caboose, and grounds, too. One of the best locations to date for action and scenery. Thanks for all of these great videos highlighting railroading in small town America.

Those weird looking MOW rolling stock on the end were very likely a LORAM ballast cleaner. The big round hoops on the side with what look like scoops are exactly that, they pick up the ballast along with any debris and rubbish that have worked their way into it, and pass it along a set of filtering and cleaning conveyors. They're not very visible right now as the whole setup looks very different when it's folded up. There's probably a couple of videos on RU-vid that show it in action. You could also inquire to whichever railroad company owns or leases them or to LORAM themselves, if they have a contact means, and find out if they have any publicly available videos of this equipment in action. It even cleans and sorts out ballast that has degraded from it's original size due to repeated passing of trains over it, and can sort out ballast that has become undersized due pressure causing patches of ballast to become compressed and fractured.

Loram does have a RU-vid channel. All of our North American equipment is operated and maintained by Loram, contracted out to the railroads.

PERFECT!!!!! Those first two trains were spot on with their timing. You even got a couple of hello horn blows from those first two trains. You have so much clout! That spot is pretty nice with the way you can see the trains snake around.

You have found another first class location to video trains. The S-curve really shows off the equipment more so than a level crossing. It makes the video editing easier when one train appears from behind the other train. Christmas morning in April for train fans! Great work JT.

Awe gee, a train meet. We don't have any cabooses here, also, there's no railroad since Eglin AFB cut those lines off going into the base and put the rails up next to the mainline between Pensacola and Jacksonville. FYI, Eglin covers 824 Sq land miles of NW FL and has water ranges to Key West. I live within 10 miles of Eglin and 2 miles from Hurlburt AFB, FL. Hurlburt was Aux Field #9 on the Eglin AFB complex. This complex has 2 Navy helicopter training fields, an Army Ranger Advanced Training camp, a Navy EOD training area on Range 51, A Coast Guard yard at the marina, and to top it off C6 the NASA tracking radar.

I can be pretty sure it's a long one when I see a four-engine lashup (2 in the same video)! It's a nice coal train with two engines and no DPU so it may be empty. Very cool place in KY! A nice caboose - I would love to have that set up as a small home :) And if Norfie is still cute as anything :)

That was incredible timing to have that dead head coal train coming on another track just as the other train was heading away. It was probably heading back towards West Virginia. That train station is a nice place. They had a couple of picnic tables to eat some lunch while watching the trains. The spring looks pretty. Your animals were ganging up on you to bum some of your food. That's funny. This area is another great train watching place. 👏 👏 👏.

The equipment being towed by the first train is a shoulder ballast cleaning train. The twin excavation wheels equipped with 30 or 36 buckets on each side of the cars of this machine scoop up the old ballast on the sides, When each bucket reaches the top, the ballast is dumped into screens and shake trays separating the loose dirt and other impurities like small rocks 🪨 and coal onto a conveyor shoot arm aiming it far off away from the right of way. The good ballast is then redistributed back onto the track way. The purpose of this special train is to clean the ballast for proper drainage, keeping the tracks from being distorted.
