I went with this case BlueSwan Anti-Cracking Hard Shell Case for MacBook Pro 14-inch, 2023-2021 Release, with Touch ID, Anti-Fingerprint Hard Shell, Soft TPU Bumper, Frosted - Loving it so far.
The algoritm pushed me this video when i was searching online to buy a case. Yes, IT IS LONG! 😂 but watched all of it (ahem some parts in 1.5x 😝) because i am THE target audience. 😁 And this is one of the most extensive review of all the possible cases outvthere. So THANKS! :)
No I would not recommend a case on any Mac machines Macs are better by just taking good care of it for example placing a desktop pad will help alot of preventing scratches those cases will catch micro dust particles and stays inside which further damages the finish
Clear cases remind me of the furniture in my grandmother's living room. Thanks for pointing out the lack of corner protection on the Mosiso cases. I have one on my new MBP - black case on space black - so I hadn't noticed the bare areas. I'll be replacing it with a new case immediately.
This was an incredible video, thank you. I have a shiny new MBP 14 and some international travel coming up, protection definitely wins out over aesthetics for that scenario.
@@TheOfficialCasso Interested to hear what Arlen has to say having used it for 2 years, but in my limited use, can confirm no issues with heat and airflow whatsoever. Plus haven't seen anybody online mentioning issues of that nature neither.
Using a case makes a big difference when it's time to sell- when you take off the case the laptop still looks like new. No-brainer for me. Edges get dinged, surface gets scratched...why would it not be a good idea?
Great video brotha , you did a vid on something most won’t do. I went with the Spigan Fabric and absolutely love it. All preference at the end of the day.
@@TheFina1e ouch sorry to hear! Ya they're all fingerprint magnets to one degree or another, even baseless and with the dbrand skins (a matte skin is probably the least fingerprint magnety i would imagine)
The biggest difference I'm seeing with the Tech 21 Evo case, is that it covers more of the chamfered edge that runs along the bottom of the MacBook when opened (where palms rest). Seems many, if not all of the other cases leave this edge completely exposed.
THE best review on macbook cases. Thats what reviews look like. I felt like I myself trying all the cases 😊. I feel like going with just skins and sleeve would be best for me. Cases are still opinionated on causing damage. Why someone just build a very thin case for lid? Bottom doesn’t have any damage issue with case otherwise.
@@zealous.studio Thanks so much for watching and kind comment! Couldn't agree more with you on the cases. It would certainly seem like that solution you outlined would appease most consumer needs 🙏
@@zealous.studio amazing, thanks again! Just checked your channel out and subscribed too. Nice starlight macbook air ✨ 👏 Looking forward to both our journeys 🙏
I have the swan case and I noticed in the video that you applied the top cover in reverse. It still fits, but will look and feel weird unless you apply it facing the correct direction (notch over the inner screen notch) great video! Helped me make a good choice on the swan
hmm i've never purchased those myself.. but just checked on reddit and looks like it was a cause for concern for some people and then at some point dbrand stopped selling the palmrest and touchpad skins so I would say don't use them. Something must have happened to cause them to stop selling it 🤷
Hey Yogi, thanks for watching! Those are just the ones that stood out to me on my search. Didn't really see anything else out there that I would want to put on my macbook (others looked overly engineered/designed/tacky imo). Open to suggestions though if you found anything else good!
@@seifbuysI think they meant more so like a design on the case not the physical case itself like the same ones you chose with something on them like your skin
@@tarynriver Fair point Taryn! yes I did see some of those when I was searching, just didn't personally like them. Wouldn't personally recommend them to anyone since they are not of my taste. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who would prefer one of those pre designed cases, just not me tbh.
the tech21 case for my MBA M3 is now $54.95. it ssays you can drop it, for those of us who do. and it no longer seems to have the boarders that were a deterrent.
Good point Marcos! I didn't think of that myself but can't say I've read or heard of anyone having such issues. The additional weight seems super negligible as these cases are really light (especially the top piece that goes on the lid), and especially considering how well crafted the hinges on these macbooks are. Also, it's not like the weight is being born on the hinge from a physics standpoint when the macbook is open and in use at the typical 90 degree angle .. it would only be felt when in a transitory state (opening or closing). That's my 2 cents on your point at least! Thanks for watching!
On the end of the video you show your laptop with Damascus skin and the case what case was that one I noticed it doesn’t have the vents hole on the bottom
the cases that don't have the vents holes on the bottom are 1) The Satechi Matte Clear Case, 2) The InCase Matte Clear Case, and 3) The Tech 21 Clear Case
@@seifbuysif you would notice there’s a thin rubber lining at the edge of the macbook screen, and as you remove the casing it causes the rubber to somehow tear a little bit
Grippy feet are both good and bad- after having hard cases for many years I've found grippy feet a bit annoying because I often want to adjust the position/angle of my laptop and the grips are a pain. I sometimes find myself putting the Mac on a sheet of something to let it slide. Grippy feet not really advantageous IMO.
Con with the cheaper cases is they crack quite easily. Once you have one crack you might wish you had gone with the higher quality case. Or maybe you're happy to just buy another cheap case.
From my experience with MacBook hard cases- those corner pieces that you like to see provide higher corner coverage are VERY prone to breaking, especially if you keep your case in a bag. That little piece of plastic is a real weak point, maybe why some brands keep it lower. A lot of these design choices come with tradeoffs and/or have been chosen due to user feedback.
Appreciate the detailed video. I just upgraded to the m3 pro and I have been trying to decide if I should go caseless this time. Case + skin or just skin?? Years ago I dropped my macbook pro from the couch and it made a small crack in the screen. Cost me $600 to replace, so I've been using cases ever since
Thanks for watching Jon! Personally, I upgraded to the M3 Max 16 Space Black and am rocking it caseless without a skin currently.. though have been thinking about applying a dbrand skin like I did with the M2 Max in the video. My macbook rarely leaves my desk so that's why I feel comfortable. If I were more mobile with it though, would definetly grab a case ontop of a skin.
@@seifbuys Nice. That's a good point. Mine's mostly at a desk or on the couch, so I could try without for a bit. Although I do have a cheap clear case I've slapped on for now. Your insight into the matt cases really helped as the one I got is glossy. Matt is king Going to grab the ultramatte teardown skin and might try it without the case for a bit.
@@jonhoolio Sweet! ya go Matte or go home seems to be the sentiment these days. I've been eyeing that teardown skin too funny enough. Enjoy wtv you decide Jon 🤙
Hey Imran! If you want to avoid scratches and dings, yes, yes I do. I personally needed up going with just a skin on mine like I say at the end of the video. But, I mostly use it at home so that's why. Currently I have the M3 Max Macbook 16inch with nothing at all on it. But if I was going to get a case, I would probably get the Satechi or Tech21 I think..
@@lorenzoatentar7766 Hey Lorenzo, just looked it up on Amazon. Looks like reviews are a bit varied with a relatively low 3.9 star rating based on just 29 reviews. Would probably stick with a case with higher average star rating and more reviews like any one of the ones shown in the video. Hope that helps! thanks for watching 🙏
ouff can't say I've tried it because doesn't look like it's available here in Canada. However, I looked it up and looks clean ✨. Def a nice premium option form the images and vids I just watched about it. I generally do trust otterbox products from my experience too and looks like they sell it on apple's website so must be legit 👌
@@seifbuys sorry did not describe well. I got a cheep case for about 20 and they simply crack after it gets hot. Not an issue as it protects the Mac and I can live with the crakes due to the Mac body expanding. It happened to all the clear cases after a good days work. The PTU cases that are not clear are much more durable but they eventually crack also in the corners. I don’t think I used any of the ones you featured on the vid. Just that the clear ones do give with bits falling off from the corners after 2 or 3 years. But they are cheep as chips so replacing it through a new cheep eBay product was not an issue.
@@VeiledVoid anytime! I see, ya that's the mosiso clear case 👌 link in the description, but in case it's out of stock, there's a bunch of different clear plastic cases like that sold by different Chinese companies on Amazon. hope that helps!
Hmm haven't heard about Uniq before. Just looked up the website and looks legitimate to me. The claro looks just like the Satechi one I show in the video so depending on where you are located, might make more sense to get the Satechi. Especially if you can order from Amazon and get benefit of the extended holiday return period.
@@seifbuys We don't have Amazon at my country. Also our Apple store have very few cases to buy from. It's either Incase or Uniq from an authorised apple resellers that sell them. I just have mixed feelings about the cases such as how hard shells causes more harm than security based on reddit and other youtube videos. But on the other hand, I want to protect it from scratches due to unforeseen events haha
Hey Man, really helpful video! Thanks for doing this. I think I will probably go with Satechi, as I have a few of their products and they usually don’t disappoint. Just wondering have you checked out any of the UAG cases? I am also looking one of theirs too.
Thanks for watching! ya cant go wrong with Satechi. Can't say i'm familiar with UAG but I looked em up and look legit to me. Just too bulky/overly engineered/designed for my liking but hey, if protection is your main concern, looks like a solid option based on what I'm seeing online
@@seifbuys Yes, UAG are pretty good, I have purchased several of both their iPad and iPhones cases and they saved my devices on many occasions. Glad you were able to check them out too. But I think I am going to go with the Satechi in your recommendations, as I am not sure I want the additional bulk of the UAG!
@@seifbuys your very welcome. Funny as the only time I ever cracked my iPhone was when I was not using a UAG case (despite having previously dropped the phone)! So their cases really work. But I really enjoyed your video and look forward to checking out more. Thank you🙏🏾
Not in my experience nor have so heard of such issues online. The M1 through M3 line of macbooks (silicon based) macbooks are really good with heat management I find. Both with and without a case on.
Seif, great comparison video! I'm gonna go completely off topic and ask about your Mx Master mouse which I spotted on your desk. Is that the 3, 3s? 'For Mac' version or normal version, and any issues with lag or scrolling? I'm new to Mac and was about to buy it, but saw some comments about it which was concerning. Case wise, I was just searching up a couple of these exact cases so it was good to see that you showed them up close!
7abibi Usman, thanks for watching! yess that's the 3S graphite version (don't think it's the mac version) of the mx master.. been using almost daily for over a year and no issues to report with scrolling or anything else in my experience. Been using it on my 4k samsung odyssey neo G7 and the LG dual up monitor.
@@seifbuys Many thanks for the quick response! I was considering going for the non-Mac version too. Do you use with the USB dongle or does it work well with bluetooth?
does spigen urban fit case loosens the macbook hinge over the time , and also does it leave any gap between the display and the keyboard after closing, and finally is it worth to apply it does it damage the macbook over the time ? please reply
Hi Vinayak, while I can't say with absolute certainty, I don't believe any of these cases will loosen the macbooks hinge over time, no. I mean It's more likely that your macbook will get damaged without a case than the hinge loosening up with a case. also, no I did not notice any gap between display and keyboard after closing. I would say a case is worth it if you're looking for protection and are travelling around with your macbook a lot. Probably safer than moving around with it with no case.
@@seifbuys thankyou so much for a detailed reply , you are one of the nicest reviewers out there , you deserve 1 million subscribers, sorry but just confirming again , there is 0 gap in between the screen and the keyboard right ? because i dont want the screen to just fall of when i hold my macbook upside down, asking just to confirm , - it closes as usual like without the case ? like is there 0 gap? and please tell about the keyboard protectors too , i read on the internet that they cause condenstation on the keyboard which damages the motherboard overtime, and does applying keyboard skin leaves any gap between screen and the keyboard? thankyou so much
@@vinayaksharma5821 no problem, thank you so much for the kind words! confirming yes, 0 gap. So just as good as with no case. I definetly do NOT recommend you use a keyboard protector because what you said is correct based on what I read online too.

@@vinayaksharma5821 no problem! I guess you can use a keyboard protector when you are using it and then remove it when you close the lid. Outside of that, not sure there is another solution.
@@ArminSteiner hey 👋 not in my experience, no. Cooling is pretty much unaffected with these cases I tried. At least on the silicon based macbooks. M1-M3
@@ArminSteiner thanks Armin! the dbrand skin is really nice 👌 but won't really protect it from drops if u care about that. I dropped my macbook once with the dbrand skin and it was fine (no scratches or bumps or anything) but I dropped it from very short height like 2ft or something like that 😬
The Satechi clear case is your best choice if you want to use a usb hub that sticks closely to your macbook on the side. Thanks for watching! and let me know if you have any other questions.
I’ll go with Satechi to have seamless integration with their slim hub ( hence the cut out on that side), otherwise other cases wont allow hub to fit snug.
@@lawlinyourface Interesting! you're right, I just checked dbrand and no bottom skin included for leather even though it's twice the price of all the other skins. Wild, I wonder why 🤔
@@seifbuys I thought the same thing! Definitely detured me from ordering so far. Trying to decided in a style top/bottom. Any suggestions it’s my first one!
@@lawlinyourface hmm ya, I find it's super personal preference when it comes to skins. For what its worth, I went with the damascus skin 1) because I thought it looked cool, and 2) because they throw in the Damascus triple black skins as well for free when you order any of the other 'metallic' damascus skins. Like the Warzone, Obsidian, or Acid.. Ofcourse, I understand the Damascus is not appealing to everyone. Love all the choice they give though! always tough deciding.
Hey Nevo, that's from the Ali Abdaal dbrand palettes collection which you can browse here, but looks like they removed the specific design/color that I showed. I'm guessing must not have been to popular or something. Sorry to disappoint as it was there less than a year ago smh. Anyway here's the link to those other colorways for the same palettes design: dbrand.com/shop/special-edition/palettes
Superficial review for Tech21 EVO didn't explain that the border front and rear is due to a rubber edging that will improve seating and shock protection. Whereas the Incase does not have any lining so will not seat so well and much more likely to crack if dropped.
Hey Martin, I actually mentioned both those things. All good, thanks for adding the comment so people can see it spelled out here in case they miss it in the vid.
Thanks so much Safwan! means a lot to me :) and hard to say tbh, I think it's personal preference.. If you prefer the greater coverage and dots design on the incase vs less coverage but no dots design on the satechi
Thanks for letting people know those exist Alex! I saw some when searching, just didn't appeal to me but def big crowd out there into the wood look no doubt
Hey Akshay, can't say for sure from experience but I doubt it. The cases aren't putting any additional pressure on the hinge when in a normal viewing position plus apple sells 2 of these on their own website so imagine they wouldn't if it negatively affected macbooks. The 2 sold on the apple website are then incase and the tech 21z
thanks for watching! I see no issue with applying stickers on any of the clear or clear matte cases I show in this video. Probably a safer bet than applying it directly on the MacBook at least, not that I see much issue with that either.
Hey Brandon, I wish dbrand made their own macbook 'ghost' case tbh. But in the absence of that, any of the clear or clear matte case options presented in the vid should suffice. For most bump/drop protection, probably the Tech21 clear case. For most sleek design that will allow the screen to shine through, probably any of the cheap clear cases like mosiso and BlueSwan. For most fingerprint resistance, any of the matte clear case options like Satechi or InCase.
Hey Ilyas, save your hinges over God knows how many years of potential repeated abuse or save your macbook from certain death and scratches from a fall or bump. I guess pick your poison, but if I go out with my Macbook often, I would probably go with the case.
I think they leave the side off so that you can attach flush adapters to the side with 2 usb c ports , if not that’s the excuse to cut some production costs 😂
That's what I ended up going with as mentioned near end of vid hah. Only downside/risk to it is scratching the corners and edges of the macbook.. though Phantom Skinz offers edge wraps which help alleviate that concern somewhat.
DON'T use macbook cases, the hinge of the macbook is extremely precise, wearing a case can break the display due to distorsions, even apple on their website has an article explaining why to now wear a case.
Hey Gaudah, you know what's guaranteed to scratch up, ding, and break your macbook? Walking around with it and dropping it without a case. There's people that are more careful with their products and don't see themselves doing that, including myself which is why I went with a skin as mentioned at the end and even now my M3 is caseless. But I don't take my macbook outside the home often. Bulky cases will mess up your hinges over time with repeated abuse, yes. Doesn't mean that wearing a slim case like the majority of those shown in the video is more harmful to your macbook over time that wearing no case. Apple sells macbook cases in their stores and on their website. Including the incase and Tech21 cases shown in the video.
haha that I do, thanks so much for watching and dropping a comment! I've improved it on newer videos and figured out why it was messed up in this video so shouldn't happen again 🫡
Never ever us any non Apple accessories on a MacBook PERIOD and if you have ,never disclose this to Apple as it will void your warranty. The MacBooks construction has zero tolerances for accessories including case covers, screen and camera covers. The screen of your new Mac will break leaving you with an $800 replacement cost. I no this from my own experience.
interesting! thanks for letting us know your experience. Funny how they themselves sell case covers including some of those shown in the vid on the apple store though.. both in retail stores and online.
ya sure tell that to apple who sells some on their website. With a case or without you have risk of damaging your macbook. With a case is maybe it gets damaged, very slowly over a very long period of time with repeated hinge abuse in some very scarce reported cases. Without a case is certain death in scratches in a much wider, much more likely variety of circumstances. I personally use a skin or completely skinless/caseless though as I said at the end. Since I don't leave the home much, but if I did or if i knew I was prone into bumping or dropping it a lot, then I would get a case.
@@seifbuys wouldn’t be the first time Apple sold something that hurt you more than helped you lol. I've heard that using a case can potentially damage your MacBook. I recently purchased an M3 Pro and was contemplating getting a case, but after seeking advice on the Apple subreddit, I quickly reconsidered. Many users shared their horror stories about cases. It seems the consensus there is that a skin, like the one you mentioned at the end of your video, is the best option.
@@marcellopcamara Hey Marcello, I couldn't find the US link to that on Amazon at the time, but just looked now and found it! here it is: amzn.to/3Ktxl37 Adding to description now as well. Thanks for heads up!
Literally the worst advice you can give anyone who’s new to MacBooks lmao. Look I’m going to say this once, it’s a premium laptop not a cell phone lmaoo, you do warm more harm than good putting a foolish case on your MacBook. Traps debris that will cause many scratches over time, will weaken the hinge and bend the screen. Terrible advice in all honesty. Get a sleeve instead and start taking care of your investment.
Thanks for sharing ur thoughts John! sounds like an opinion. You're entitled to one and like I said at the end, I decided to go caseless with a skin. It is definetly not a bad choice to go with a case or skin if you're looking to protect from scratches dings and other potential serious damage. Your points are valid, but so is bumping your macbook, dropping it n having it break on u. One is a potential over long term use and repeated abuse the other is certain death to macbook on account of an accident. Apple sells macbook cases on their website so these superstitions you have about a case being horrible advice as you say is far far beyond unfounded and based on a few random reddit posts.. who knows what cases they were using, how much abuse on the hinge, and many other factors. Good day to you, thanks for watching 🙏
