Thanks for the video but I am always shocked by the use of matte boxes on dslr or mirrorless set ups. I don’t think people understand that for the most part matte boxes are supported by rails not because of the weight of the matte box itself but because of the glass that is inserted in it. Imagine a three tray and a variable nd. The weight of glass is the issue. Again I don’t think mirrorless users understand that the cinema cameras that they have seen in movie bts that they may be trying to emulate have locking pl lens mounts and so a clip on is just about acceptable and won’t damage the lens mount but aping this with anything other than a pl or some kind of lens support is rarely a good idea. Use rails. Not least when you put the camera down the weight rests on the matte box and in turn stresses the lens mount again. There are so many reasons why people need to understand why and how cinema cameras use matte boxes and not just simply think it looks professional. When they are used and risk the camera being damaged then that is usually a sure sign that the user isn’t really acting “professionally” and protecting their equipment or possible that of the rental house. I’m sure this user knows this but if I saw this rig on set I would consider it unsafe and and bad practice and wouldn’t be so confident in that operators experience or abilities. It’s a classic mistake in my book and is a deal breaker that would mean that person isn’t hired again. Remember in the cine world lenses will cost thousands and weight considerably more than most still lenses. The priority is to protect the gear by using the right equipment the right way.

For people who shoot weddings on a Mirrorless or whatnot - this is fine. No one is putting multiple sheets of glass on them. Most people actually only get them for the look (yes it matters because the client feels better about what they’re paying for). But these matte boxes are great. They have a purpose and it’s different from people who shoot movies. Ignorant.

@@andrewbowman409 ?? The fx3 a7sii or fx30 have no variable nds. They are pretty popular for weddings. A matte box is for so much more than its look. I tried to explain it that even in its mist basic form there is a professional way to use them. Not rocket science and certainly an attitude of that’ll do isn’t really a recommendation for professionalism regardless if how small the job. Its not about making movies its about using equipment as it was designed for. Not exactly controversial.

lol i work in cinema and this is bs. There is just no way a videographer will stack more 2 4x5.6 filters, and even so I really doubt it would damage the lens or the mount.

@@felixsimardt Low con and polarising filter? or variable ND? Thats 2 min. Have you ever seen an Arri LMB Pro Set. Three stages. I could go on. Every pro mb will have minimum two stages. Do you know how much that would weigh? More than the FX30 for sure. And this is a light weight pro matte box. Unless its a PL lock the mount isn't going to last let alone take a hit. I have no idea what you do in cinema but it doesn't sound like you have much experience with professional cine matte boxes. Dont take my word for it. Rent one and take a look at what you get.

I’m not with that lens. It’s a bit small, and I wouldn’t mount it directly to the lens. If I did use it, it would be mounted to 15mm rails instead. The pro is more versatile, but this one is great for lightweight set ups 👌

what size is your nd filter tho? have a sigma 24-70 and variable nd filter from moment. it’s too big for matte box in front for tilta matte box. will this fit on this

@@TheumbrellaMG It was the VND stop handle that got in the way. There was not enough room to turn the vnd stops and have the matte box on at the same time 😭
