He's a good reviewer but I think part of that is the audience he aims at. There a few motoring journos that started well but have now just gotten stupid. Chief among those are any members of the Top Gear trio, (you know the ones........), then the clown that only drags the cars and points at fake exhausts with a stick. BUT............if that is what the audience demands I give them some slack, (but not a lot).

Expensive Land Rover costs more to run than cheap Merc, in my experience. And a cheap Land Rover, dread to think!

Depends well maintained shop book with dates etc tells u the true story. My rule no maintance record not going to look at it

@@jackdavies5271 Finding one would be a challenge, these were soluble in water, complex and parts are extremely expensive so most will have been thrown away long ago.

Believe it or not, less than a yr ago I found a 1 owner (Doctor w/ lifetime service documents) w210 E55 for $2,500! Garaged it's entire life (allegedly, did look it). Although 250k mi on the clock if I remember correctly, it was damn tempting. Certainly don't expect to see one like that again

Those C55's are the real hidden gems. True sleeper in that perfect sized (imo) chassis. My sister has a W203 C230 sport which I believe shares brakes & a few suspension bits with your car? Although she just has the 2.5L M272, I always loved the feel of that chassis. Couldn't imagine how great it is with an M113 under there

@@brrrr16 Bank 1 perhaps? (Passenger side). Just speculating here...my 3.5L m272 (along with tons of other m272 owners) has some valve clatter/lifter noise for lack of better term on bank 1. Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet. Many have attempted to properly diagnose, using borescopes & the like & have gotten no where in most cases. Mercedes claimed, "piston slap replace engine" & I once had someone tell me their m272 made it to 350k mi with that "piston slap". Different engines of course, but the M113 is known to be one of the most trouble free engines in a Mercedes. Some have also thought the cam magnets (not sensors) cleared this up, but again seemingly chasing ghosts. I'm sure you'll find talk of it on the forums & I hope it's as benign as the m272's mystery clatter.

@@RothBeyondTheGrave thank you for the response. Its bank1, compression is ok, but it looses a bit of oil pressure when gets warm. This is as far as we got in diagnosing this week

no way those are veey durable they can last 20 more years for sure they already has lasted that long a new car there is no way that it will last long so it's worth to buy those instead of new & bonus benefit in this you can buy cheaper spare parts unlike in new ones they will he expensive + wait for imports

This comment is absolutely stupid. Many people love these brilliant cars, and if you think they’ll wear out in months, your wrong as they’ll probably outlast the modern AMGs

Correct. The M113 is absolutely solid (we have it in my R129). I wouldn’t say the ABC is that much of a cost sure it’s £1,000 to replace but there are companies that refurb them using better parts for around £350 so I’ve seen and heard. Definitely worth that cost to have ABC!

@@adamkightley abc is about £1,000 per strut tho, that includes one of them, the car has 4, and they don't include stuff like Valve Bodies, the hydraulic pump etc.

ABC is one of those things you should avoid...

@@jkarra2334 only if you’re uneducated on the system. It’s actually a pretty straightforward and reliable system… people just think it’s complicated due to the expense.

@@ic1815 there is no easy way out when refurbishing ABC system, if you do it reasonable good you will spend money. A lot of money.

You didn’t change the conductor plate, or else it would have been a forever no prob engine and trans.

Probably because they’re only just creeping below 15k for a ropey drug dealer owned car, and still depreciating. Whereas you could argue the older AMGs are settling down price wise.

Or just get a non-AMG with M113 power. CLK430 for instance. Take the muffler off, leave the cats on, loadsa V8 rumble for not much cash.

Might I ask which CLK 55 model you have? W208 or W209?

This was almost 10 years ago and the prices were correct at the time of filming. You are right probably 10k-13k for a W211 E55, 13-18k for SL55

For real, I have a w202 c43 amg and pay £800 for the insurance and when I got my w210 e55 the insurance quote was £1400. In terms of fuel costs the c43 has always been reasonable so I though getting the e55 wouldn't be much of an increase but boy was I wrong, that thing drinks fuel at a horrifyingly quick rate.....I recommend taking everyday running costs into serious consideration to anyone thinking of buying one don't get sucked into the idea of owning a car like these because you can buy them at a relatively low price, its stings you afterwards

@@ahmedjabbar7467 I recommend not looking at the MPG and just topping up the fuel when it's low. :D Ran a CLK55 for a couple of years and just drove it without looking at how much it was costing me... safer for my sanity!

@@darrensurrey I hear you loud and clear. I guess my biggest gripe is that for the same costs of fuel I could have a w211 e55 kompressor and potentially have much more fun for the same running costs which is what I'm thinking of doing

The used car market has gone nuts... plus I think if you ever could get any of these for that price I would suggest keeping that much again free for repairs.

w210 E55 vs w209 CLK55, the CLK is a 'newer' car, w211 e55's are in another league.

This segment is from 2013. The M113 engine is also considered one of the best engines ever built by MB, particularly for its reliability. Electronics however, are a different story.

@Keyboard Warrior yeah tacky sums them up perfectly. I think the only people that seem to buy them are oil sheiks (they'll buy anything thats expensive) hip hop artists and the Russian Mafia.

People who would buy that G Wagon know nothing about cars. You could buy a better looking car for £1000 and it costed £130k lol.
