I was at a Volans tequila tasting and a few of the folks there were Mezcal officionados who kindly gave me a glass of El Jolgorio. My mind was blown with the amount of flavor. The tequila was great bu this blew everything out of the water. Been looking for a bottle ever since

We are drinking some for the first time tonight... A locally produced mezcal made in this little village of Santa Maria del Tule! Oh, btw, about the equivalent of $12 for a large bottle here... Hahahaha...
We just found a bottle of Mezcal Vago Ensamble' by Tio Rey, hands down thee most incredible Mezcal I've had to date...if his Tobala has the same magic, I can only imagine how amazing it is.
Tobalá, one of our favorite magueys! Not only for the taste, but the agave is so beautiful as well. Rest in peace to Judy, so sorry for the loss to those closest to her.

Great video! The only tobalá I've tried is Fosforo Penca, which is rested with the maguey pencas. Its by far my favorite mezcal. I hope you can try one day if you haven't already because I'd love to hear your opinion on it...or anyone else's here.
Saludos y condolencias a Judy. I never had the pleasure but sounds like she was a treasure. I've had the pleasure of tasting Lalo's tobala and agree it's a gem. Another that I like just as much is one by Felix Angeles. What struck me in comparing them was the diversity. Same agave, they both produce in the same village just a kilometer or so separate from each other..so similar water/minerality and such. But still, so distinct from each other. One softer and rounder and more floral, the other with more punch and mineral. Both get high marks from me. Looking forward to revisiting next month and seeing what this years distillations are like!

Rosario (Rahmba) is also very, very good at what she does - an awesome mezcalera. So much talent in SCM. I'm so jealous you'll be there, indulge, my friend, indulge! Hahaha... I know you will. 😎
Great video, Zack; I hope to try more of these soon. Very touching story about Judy; Thank you for sharing. I also lost a very inspiring woman in my profession, so I can sympathize. Be sure to leave out a Mezcal glass for her during Dia De Los Muertos, so she can visit you and share that kiss of Mezcal she missed out on last time.

Pluma negra is phenomenal! Both Tobala and Tepeztate. NC is an agave desert when it comes to mezcal, hope to see these make it our way soon! Great reviews

Great reviews, and sad to hear about Judy. If Lalo served us a Tobála back in 2017, I don’t remember; he did pour us everything. I recommend Emigdio Jarquin Ramirez’s tobála from Vago. Great stuff. Haven’t seen it around lately though. Just a smidgen left in my bottle, trying to preserve it. Salad!

I keep seeing Mezcal Vago's ensamble en barro instead of the tobalá en barro. The two bottles have very similar designs. Are their flavours much different?

I actually was looking for either Forforo bottle when I was at a Total Wine in San Jose on the weekend (I live a few hours south and was passing through). But they were out of both. They are ones I'm very much on the hunt for, especially the Penca (that one sounds awesome)! Have you tried them yet?
I am pretty new to non-espadin mezcals, and I recently picked up three very reasonably priced ones from Quiereme Mucho. Cuishe, Tepextate and Tobala all for $63-68. ( Much lower than the $84-94 avg on wine-searcher) I was curious to know if you have any experience with this brand? I quite like them all, although the Cuishe has a rather unusual flavor profile. The nose on the Tobala is amazing. I have yet to progress to the $100+ range, although I have found great deals on a few bottles that normally go much higher (Bozal Jabali for $73).
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I don't mind Quiereme Mucho (QM) but I think there is better in that mid-range price point. Bozal like you mentioned I prefer. But yeah, if you're gonna spend $60-70 I think there is better than QM. Their bottles are neat though! Have you tried anything >$100 yet?
@@ZackKlamn Technically, although I paid $73 the bozal jabalii is usually priced slightly over 100. In fact, but I went back to get one for a friend of mine it was now priced at $111.I have several from them and they’ve all been excellent Recently picked up their Gaius de Calabaza, the vegetarian sacrificio.
