Wow they are some awesome improvements! I wasn't going to upgrade, but the auto switch on/switch off feature and the lithium ion battery alone are worth it!! Great shout on using the friction arm so you can use it as a boom mic.

Three things: 1 - In US, RØDE recommends against buying their product through Fulfilled By Amazon. They've bought counterfeit devices through that channel & are no longer offering warranty service for product sold through it. See their website for exact wording of notice. They don't mention Canada but you might assume same holds true. 2 - The mic-power-follows-camera-power trick requires the camera provide Plug-In Power even though the mic has its own battery. I checked & all of my Canon bodies are so equipped including the now ancient 5D2. But check yours before depending on the feature. 3 - From your demo, the new Plus version sounds a lot better than its predecessors & considering it eliminates the hassle of getting phantom power (48V) to an XLR, very much worth considering, especially for mobile shoots. That said, the RØDE NTG4's physical geometry suggests it would provide superior off-axis rejection, which in many applications is a big damned deal. If you're already rigged for XLR, the NTG4 is only $100 more. If you're not, the Video Pro+ looks like a great mic. Just be aware of off-axis noise sources.

the auto on/off feature alone makes this mic worth it. I leave my OG VMP mic on overnight all the time and forget to turn it on before shooting even more often.

1:23 - ANNNNND sold. I do contract work for live events, and while I usually have something else for a main feed on audio, I run and older Rode video mic for backup. Works great, until the show or whatever goes to intermission and I turn my equipment off and then boom, we come back, camera on and start recording. Sidenote, I hope the mounts are better now, I've broken mine multiple times just from tightening slightly too much or moving the camera around with the mic on. Things that shouldn't have broken it.

Not to burst your bubble but, I have an extremely high-end surroundsound in my house and I was watching your video on the TV with the surroundsound and your new microphone made the center channel speaker crackle when you talked. Your other microphones don’t do that.
