The lavalier had quite a lot of noise. It would have been interesting to have the lavalier also connected to the Zoom H1 as it most probably is a preamp hiss. I have both the Seenhiser MKE600 and the Shure MV7 (mine is the XLR + USB combo version), and I am very happy with both, I am sure you will be too.

I will have to agree with you, the pre-amp might've played a role in the quality of the lab mic.
