I was never a big Association Football fan, but I gave MLS a chance back in the 90's as a youngster... they just never grabbed... not until LAFC. I was immediately on board.

When that happened Union parked the bus, called it a day and said we won, but the victors are not victorious if the vanquished does not consider themselves so, and Unions belief that the game was won was why Bale scored and tied it, Union thought they won but LAFC weren’t done yet. From the on it was all LAFC. From all the effort LAFC put into it, Crepeau sacrificing himself for the game, being a goal and a man down and not giving up, as well as the backup keeper who’d only played one other game this season pulling his weight, the right team won.

LAFC MLS Cup championship parade drew around 5k fans... Hosuton Astros 2022 World Series parade drew over 2 million fans. It's not even close yet

@@Tu_Padre31 i think that's mainly because LAFC is a new team that just established less then 10 years ago, and Astros was made in the 1960's. Obviously the Astros will have more supporters, because they were around longer so more people know about them, not because soccer isn't popular. Soccer is growing in popularity in the States and will overtake baseball soon enough, its closer then you believe, literally the top 5 most popular sports in the States. After the 2026 world cup in USA/Canada/Mexico, Soccer will probably be more popular then baseball at this rate its going.

@@KayvanKermani LAFC is already the second most supported team in MLS behind the galaxy.... I was at their championship parade/celebration.... believe me, age of that franchise has nothing to do with that turn out. Look up Philadelphia media on sports, they've only been talking about the phillys in the World Series and the Eagles being undefeated and completely neglecte that their MLS team is in the final. Its not even close yet, and I love both leagues/sports. No bias, but it's really not close. A good tidbit here: LAFC has one of the highest payrolls at under $20M. Their LA MLB counterparts the LA Dodgers active payroll is over $300M. A 2026 world cup isn't gonna boost the NYCFC over the NY Yankees, Chicago Fire over the Chicago Cubs, LAFC over the LA Dodgers... MLS is just not there yet.

@@Tu_Padre31 I agree with that, I don't believe MLS will compete with MLB anytime soon. MLS is a new league in comparison to MLB. I'm just talking about Soccer in general becoming more popular then baseball. More Americans know about Premier league with their top players moving there like Pulisic and Sargent. I feel that baseball stadiums are nearly half empty all the time and tickets are very cheap, where the MLS attendance is rising year after year it seems(except for covid 2020) and more MLS team are being created every year, but clearly the MLB is a superior league with more investment and sponsors.

@@KayvanKermani yes MLB is more rooted in American culture and their cities. Soccer is becoming more popular, thats a fact. And MLB has it's problems that contribute to its popularity or lack of for some teams. Such as smaller market teams tanking their seasons to get compensation draft picks, thus individual team fan support wanes for a few years. Also remember that MLB has a long 162 game season with 81 home games. Alot of games especially the smaller market clubs will have half empty stadiums on mid week series vs 1 of many last place teams. Meanwhile once a week games are alot more attractive in sports culture like in American football, but even many MLS teams don't fill to capacity their mid sized stadiums week in week out. Counter that though, with teams like the Dodgers. Who fill to capacity nearly each of their 81 home games at their nearly 60k capacity stadium. They draw more fans annually than the entirety of the MLS. Winning teams in MLB like the Yankees Astros etc pack their stadiums day in day out. The support for the sport is there when a good product is on the field. And so will MLS when the league attracts bigger stars from Europe. As of right now even one of the most supported teams the Seattle sounders couldn't fill to capacity the American football stadium they play in unless it's a massive final. That league has years to go but will come closer and closer in the years to come.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that there hasn't been more people talking about the fan conduct. Of course we've all seen this sort of thing before from probably every team's fans in the league. However, this was consistent all game long seemingly without any intervention or announcement from the stadium staff. Also, hearing commentators praising the fans and atmosphere is extremely concerning. This is not what I want MLS stadiums to look like.

Those who threw water bottles should be banned for life from the Stadium. Ironically, Philadelphia sports fans are notoriously nasty fan bases (across multiple sports) But that had nothing to do with the actual game drama.

It's an unfortunate trend that happens even more at European games. It's on the increase and will probably end the sale of drinks inside the stadiums.

It’s not really like that in the MLS. They use the draft system like MLB, NBA and NFL and also have spending caps which are the same for each team. There is extra funding for Designated Players however it’s not over the top. Gareth Bale was only paid $1.6m for his season with LAFC.

@@Bendaak You're not really sure how the ability to pay the designated players changes things, are you? Bale is just one of them. Blue Testament lists 2022 salaries by team. LA $14.6 million. Phili Union $11.8 million. That's close than I expected, I'll admit. Galaxy, who lost to LAFC in the division final, $20.1 million. High to low of teams, $21m to $10.5 million. There's still plenty of room for disparity, even if it's not as big as between Man City and the low table teams in the EPL

@@davidt3956 I am aware there is a disparity and it is not a completely level playing field but the difference in salaries between Man U is 5-6x higher compared to a team like Brentford. There is also no limit to the number of high earning players you can have in a squad in the European leagues… at least in the MLS the vast majority of players are paid the same no matter where they go meaning that the skill gap in teams is a lot smaller. You can look at MLS winners over the last 20 years to see that although there has been dynasties like DC United and LA Galaxy, many less well known teams have won it.

@@davidt3956 Salaries may be similar but LA teams also pay the high fees to GET a player like Bale to sign. Those fees don't show up in the salary tables.
