I am using the AW 3821DW on my Mac Studio. Works even better than the Apple Studio Display. And at the end it has a far better refresh rate with 144hz than the Apple Display.
love your channel! your expertise, your vibe, so pleasant to watch and informative. Most content creators expecially reviewers tend to use that "overly excited" in your face approach. Your calm and chill nature along with your knowledge and talent for explaining things in a logical yet still entertaining manner is such a refreshing change. Please Keep it up!! So glad I found your channel! thank you my friend.
Nice video! What display are you on? Do you use the full 2560x1440 with small app interfaces or do you go for the larger Retina mode, where everything is gigantic?
Mac os doesn't have text clarity issues on qd oleds unlike windows because Mac os uses integer text rendering and scaling. But this may be a problem if you want to use a monitor with ppi between 130-190. 34 widescreen 1440p will not be affected (~110 ppi), but 4k 32 inch will have some issues (ui elements either too big or too small) which still can be fixed with 3d party software like "betterDisplay".
No way I'd go to such a small resolution after using 5K, especially for such a large screen. Plus that monitor isn't that much cheaper than the Apple display.
Thanks for your video! What about the particular subpixel layout of QD-OLED running macOS? I'm reading that some people are uncomfortable with the subpixel layout on Windows.
That is a very bright room full of sunlight from large windows a few feet away. And the aw3423dw still looks bright enough to you? If so, that is amazing. I am less worried about my semi-dark cave.
Hi, i really need help. i have the AW3423DWF and I always have a slight green tint on the screen in comparison to my MBP 2021 14" . I know my MBP is accurate because i already printed. What can i do? Both are already calibrated via a Spyder.... :(
Thanks for the video, very helpful! I purchased a Samsung G9 49" Ultrawide which supports it's maximum refresh rate and resolution over its DisplayPort, not HDMI. The Mac Studio support 240 Refresh Rate over HDMI and there is no Display Port, so I guess using the cable you recommended is the best option (for now). Do you know if there is a KVM Switch available that I can use with this USB-C to DisplayPort cable? (I have two computers I want to connect to the monitor).
hey Johnny thanks for the video, I went out today and purchased this display for my new mac studio after watching your video :) I'm also a photographer so seeing the captures correctly on screen is important to me also, did you create a custom setup or just using a preset? also wondering why not use the HDMI out of the mac studio, is it better to use usb-c? cheers
is it glossy like mac’s display? also is hidpi available in the monitor? lastly I heard that this panel moves around in order to avoid burnins. is it also on mac? thank you in advance
Thanks for this video, was trying to decide between these two monitors and ended up going Alienware (but the DFW), was nervous about using it as my productivity monitor because of what I was reading about SDR brightness and text display. Any additional thoughts about using this for traditional productivity like email and coding?
I’m using the aw3423dw as an external display for my MacBook and text is very clear with a tiny amount of fringing on high contrast edges like text. My eyes adapted almost instantly and now it’s my favorite monitor of all time 😊
It's not even real 4k, let alone 5k, so of course text sharpness can't be anywhere close to Apple Studio Display. But that's just my reasonable assumption.
Thanks for the review...got one question? How much noise does it make? from what i see on the backside it has some sort of heat dissipation radiator..so i suppose it. fans inside as well. In normal working conditions do you hear the noise? asking this because wanted to buy one for my music production studio, where is very important to have silent machines )) kind regards
@@andreitimotin3599 it ramps up and down, but it's not very noticeable based on my friends setup. I'd compare it to a quiet laptop fan. I'm sure people have put some videos out that show the noise.
Thanks for your video and info, quick question, is there a universal remote control you can pair with this monitor? I tend to use a lot the volume controls, pause and continue buttons, and could be a little tricky to stand every time i need to turn up the volume or pause a video...
stuck between this or the lg 40wp95c. Would be doing content creation on Mac studio. Love this panel, its cheaper, but I get worried about burn in. Any thoughts you can share I would appreciate! I just subbed btw :)
@@JohnnyMcPro Thanks, as a software engineer who looks at text all day long the fringing has really put me off buying anything OLED QD for work and gaming.
I just got the AW3423DWF and must say I was not happy at all once I hooked it up. Is there any specific setting you have to set? Text and stuff looked pretty washed and blurry. I would love to keep that Display. But not with those Problems. Using a MacBook Pro 14" M1. Hope to get a reply from anyone :D
So text is messy on MacOS as well. Somewhat expectable. It's due nonstandard subpixel structure all OLEDs currently have. No OS supports it and thus those problems with text.
I have one and its not really a issue. I was using the studio display prior and I can say the text is noticably worse than the studio display but its not an issue for me, I can barley notice and only if I am actually looking for it.
How is the calling on the Mac with that monitor I thought 5k would be sharper? I’m using a 4K and it’s not very sharp. Can you get high refresh rate like 120hrz on the mac studio with that monitor?
It's definitely not as sharp as 5K. The text scaling is different than standard IPS technology due to how the pixels are arranged, but you get used to it quickly. You can run all the native refresh rates of this display on the Mac, including 175hz.
@@ROBGFILMS pixel density on this display is 110 ppi, and on a 27" 4k display, it's 163. I know some out there are completely allergic to anything less than true retina, but I think the pixel density is fine.
That isn’t an oled colorimeter…. Need the display pro plus version. I’m doing content creation with 8k cameras and would most definitely not recommend this screen. Perhaps editing 1080 iPhone video foe RU-vid would work great. 1000 nits is a 1% window and not sustained. I’d guess full field white would be around 200 nits in sdr.
1000 nits is sustained in a 1% window, and there’s no need for an OLED specific colorimeter as they don’t exist. Good try though mate 🤷♂️ the aw3423dw comes professionally calibrated already, so there’s no point in using a colorimeter except to verify the existing calibration.
The alienware monitor looks better then apple thats for sure n i just bought 2 of these one for me n one for my wife 😌😌😌 n this monitor has better resolution then the rip off apple monitor
Its 120. Which is far more than most 4k tvs. As long as you are not nosediving against your screen, most people will more than fine with a screen of this size and this ppi.
how can u not noticing any micro scratches or coating damage thanks to the bubble wrap it comes with. i will return mine and get the lg c2 42 inch for a monitor. hopefully ups will come and pick up the device i waited 4 months for nothing
