Looks like a retired mail man, drives like Michael Schumacher... love it. japanese culture, one of the few that can produce highly skilled people who are not full of themselves...
Dual clutch paddle shift? 20" wheels? Turbo/super charging? 300 km/h? Dynamic stability control? 550 bhp? Ceramic brakes? Four wheel drive? €130,000? Rear wheel steering? Absolutely none of the above! Just simple driving purity. Man and 'Ring as one. An object lesson in heel 'n' toe-ing. Did he ever drop below 6k? This is a most wonderful example of getting as much performance and handling out of a vehicle as possible.
I agree, assists will only take you so far, this is how you should be able to drive. dual clutch is great on a daily car and you don’t want your partner ruining the car😂. Manual is the art of driving. Don’t get me wrong I love the technology and lighting fast changes the new DCT will provide but the fun is doing perfect shifts like this. 👍🏻
I've seen hundreds of Nurburgring lap videos over the years including some in 1000+ hp hypercars but this run is still my favorite. Gansan is an incredible driver.
I pretty much shit myself when I slightly over-steered my AP1 on a track for the first time and this dude freaking goes airborne (103MPH!) on a prototype S2000 and continues to give in depth commentary without a single pulse raising up. Can't be human...
Gan-san's driving skills left me speechless, he is just amazing. And if that wasn't enough, when he got out of the car I noticed the license plate of that particular S2000. It's the same car on the background photo of Honda's dealership in Gran Turismo 2!
between 7:33 and 7:57 in my opinion is the best part of the whole video. The slight drift to keep maximum momentum and the hop in the air with no stress!
The current Type R is cool. But this car was something truly _special._ Honda doesn't have to make anything that's actually fast. They only need to make something that feels good to drive. I used to own a 5th gen Prelude, and I loved the way it felt to drive it. The car just felt so confident and tossable, even if Preludes are known to be heavy as small cars go. S2K is my dream car at this point. Values on these things are through the roof.
Honestly the modern CTR is numb and boring compared to an AP1 S2K, new Miata ND2 with tuning feels similar to an AP1 S2K, but it lacks rigidity and the stock spring rate is criminally soft. 3,000 in mods and all is fixed though.
This is probably the best Honda S2000 driving video ever filmed. I compared this to other decent drivers... so at the uphill corner at 4:30 he somehow keeps all the momentum going 108 kph and he can further accelerate really well. I've seen some S2000 drivers lose all the momentum in corners and the engine couldn't accelerate on the uphill. So in my opinion for an average driver like me this car would be slow, but in the right hands it's a true sports car.
Watching this just reminds me of how sad it is that so many S2000s are now owned by people who don't know what they're doing and ruin them with crappy mods, or worse, lower them to the point that they're no longer usable as sports cars. Oh well, I guess maybe I should be happy since it just increases the value of my low mileage stock AP2.
Ive been watching BMI videos for years, best motoring sits at the top of my list for incredible and inspiring videos. Lol the best part is ill stumble through these videos and just find an absolute gem like this, its unreal the amount of top notch pure Motorsport vids these guys put out! Pure driving experience and the soul of Motorsport is so alive in Japanese culture
July/10/21 Just had a argument with my Girl. So took a walk sat down at the park an watched this GeM.I believe it’s been a few years.never gets old I just want happiness
7:45 look how he "fails" the jump at Pflanzgarten 2 and gets on the curb ... other people would've CRAPPED themselves and he just keeps calm and goes flat out some more. Jesus.
thee Mitchi Yeah I noticed that. Guy doesn't give a fuck. I would have stopped the car and asked for some anxiety drugs while I cried like a little girl . 😂😂
He had some spooky moments when the car went over crests or clobbered curbs but he was cool as a cucumber. Total control and he knew exactly what was underneath him and rung it's neck with buttery smooth driving. Fun to watch him at work
he probably has over 5 thousand laps on the ring. I believe he was one of Honda's main tire testers over the years. only the craziest of the crazy become grip testers
Highly skilled driver. The road holding and overall dynamics are shattering. NA power like this can only be made with a Honda. Watch the end of the clip where the car goes air born and when it hits the road again, doesn't even budge :)
Its scary how fast he is going. The car looks like its at the very edge of what it can handle at all times yet the driver is relaxed and composed. I guess his relaxing demeanor is what achieves this driving.
+Ron Sinson why did he double clutch? Couldn't he depress it once? Like, depress + rev match? I think I heard smth about double clutching on old cars, with no synchro gearboxes and stuff...
Double clutching does the same thing in a gearbox with synchros as it does in one without. It means you don't have to rely on the synchros as heavily, either because you need a swift engagement or to reduce wear. In Gan San's case, it might just be muscle memory...
I think he was going from 3rd to 2nd, so like @identiticrisis said, muscle memory. If he was skipping a gear, it would make sense in both non-synchro and synchronised gearboxs.
His method is very precise, watch, he felt the slow car messed with his driving line. he is driving by feel alone, notice he never looks at the tach, and every shift is flawless, up and down...2 things, he clearly sees how good the abs was, he slams the brake pedal and doesnt get any weird feedback or unwanted dynamics, it gives him confidence to hard brake without fear of under or oversteer. if you watch just prior to him double clutching; he brakes but doesnt downshift. It lowered his speed so he hits the throttle to get his rpm but felt the car still had usable power in 2nd gear on that slight corner, so he double clutches to not lose traction and unstable the rear tires. He knows a straight downshift would be too much. So he Blips the throttle in between, so yes he wants the gears to mech perfectly too but he mainly doesnt want the shock on the drivetrain which could upset the rear unwantingly. It is very precise... And then has the power he wanted. Its all about feeling. Gan San is legendary. This guy wears ray bans with his business attire and loafers, to go all out in a open top prototype. Kei is the king and Gan San is the legend!
it's such a pleasure watching someone who knows how to do a proper heel n toe downshift. I perfected it in my S2000 and was able to carry it over to my Mustang Cobra after the S2000. (can't do it in my Ram 2500, pedals are too far apart)
As a racing driver.. (amateur though on high level) I remember wathcing this video as a kid before I got my license.. I remember it being pretty amazing, but now used to be driving with HANS device, 6 point harness etc. I am simply terrified by watching this man drive the open roof car without any safety device what so ever.. and he's doing 10/10ths... amazing, and pretty crazy ! 😁
I don't know why westerners love porsche so much i think it's not that good of car, 15+ years ago it was great a true sports car, but nowadays there's not much to love.
Dude went to race on his lunch break wearing work attire, dress shoes, sunglasses, and beat everyone ahead of him. Also going 220km(140mph) with the top down. Must be the BOSS of his company lol
Cada tanto vengo a ver este video. Tiene algo que me llena, no podria explicarlo. Pero la forma en empuja al límite ese auto todo el tiempo y con semejante delicadeza hace que parezca arte. Me encanta.
There aren't many engines, that can sit so comfortably at 7000+ RPM for as long as you like, and STILL last 30 years. There are definitely NONE in this price range. Honda didn't build the S2K with steel, or aluminum, or titanium. Honda build the S2K with LOVE.
