Funny to see a 1960s jet fighter landing on a Lexington-class aircraft carrier that was decomissioned in 1945. What about making larger CVs for modern jets?
Yep, have been trying to get one for 3-4 weeks now. Got one two weeks ago, but the game bugged and didn't give me takeoff boost, and I crashed. +8min crewlock for maximum annoyance.
@@Leon_der_Luftige you're a Russian tank crewman having a sandwich on the steps of the Riechstag You look up and there is a Lexington class aircraft carrier on the river And you think to yourself "Babushka put too much vodka on sandwich again"
I still have PTSD from my first game playing swordfish in RB a few years ago... my first map was the English Channel, took about 30 minutes to get across and as soon as I was over France I got shot down mercilessly
@@RAAFLightning1 its a fun plane, one of the best low teir kites but it gives players bad habits that fly it too much...and....a few well flown Corsairs can destroy an entire team of zekes
A7M2 is a fun upgrade tho: not AS nimble, but still really danged floaty, AND it has more speed, climb, firepower, and survival... and access to aerial mines that travel at a snail like 230m/s in exchange for the ability to explode and damage on a miss, and with as much HE as a Sidewinder
The German premium variant is straight up better than the British one as it's at the same BR with the same flight performance but it has sidewinders. Perfectly balanced as all things should be.
@@TheDrummingWarrior Because the British Sea Hawk is the original one and also a naval fighter. The original producing country should at least be mentioned.
@@i-40282 They did a similar thing with the Centurion family video, where they started the video looking at the Swedish Centurion variants and what requirements the Swedes had, instead of looking at the interesting story as to how the British finally got the idea of a universal tank, or a main battle tank.
Ikr I just wanna be able to takeoff using a F9F-2/5 I mean... they were designed in mind to takeoff without a catapult. Thats why they have injection WEP. but they can’t in war thunder.
Even our present WW2 Carriers are about 1/2-scale. Look at pictures of Hellcat fighters three abreast on the Lexington, or B-25's two abreast with wings over lapped only, to see how small our CV Models are. A major patch, up-sizing our CV's and adding the British, Japanese, and German(proposal) models would be a fantastic inclusion in a future update for Naval Warfare in War Thunder. Perhaps included with some update finally adding the Battleships every one is breathing heavy over?
@@aperson325 Yeah now if only I actually got maps with them when I flew my Naval fighters instead of fighting US+Japan over Britain alongside the Russians and Germans.
It is heartening to see the right amount of attention given the F6F Hellcat, and lack of attention given the Corsair. The Corsair was a superb land based fighter and attack aircraft, but was unable to operate from Carriers until the British developed a landing system for their Corsairs, and gave it to the US. The F6F Hellcats, flown by Navy and Marine Corp Pilots remained the only Naval Fighter in the Pacific onboard Carriers, until early 1945. The Hellcat was designed after study of a captured Zero fighter. When introduced, it could outclimb, out-roll, out dive and outrun, the Japanese A6M5 variants that saw any action at all. If the Hellcat could drag a Zero into a high-speed turn (nearing 300mph) or climbing right turn, the Hellcat could out-turn the Zero purely on horsepower, boosted controls and seating position. Japan's later A7M variants would never see action owing to many factors. This is why the Hellcat got over 5000 kills during WW2; it was the most numerous naval fighter plane out there over the water. Marine Corp pilots used the Hellcat and Corsair with consummate skill in both air and attack roles, as is the duty of VMF units, but only USMC Hellcat's flew from Carriers till early '45. So the Corsair had a prettier face or had the star-quality the war-time movie makers wanted. Later Movie and TV shows would make the F4U a legend. But, it's uglier and slightly larger older sister, the F6F Hellcat, carried the Navy family through most of the War. She would star only in "Hellcat's of the Navy", with John Wayne, in the story of the beginning of USMC Fighter Close Air Support doctrine. Gaijin: Finally we're at the very top or the last rank. The aircraft that is standing out the most here or in our opinion is the F-4EJ. **FGR 2 wants to know your location.**
The Japanese F-4EJ Phantom is not and will never be a carrier based fighter, for its entire operating life it was land based and never used from a carrier. Just because it keeps the tail hook (which many USAF designs have for emergency landings) does not make it a carrier fighter.
That's super obvious when you consider the country that had that variant has no Carriers of their own to use them from, I'm sure if they did have CVs they would've used it for naval operations....
@@flyingkiwi7560 yeah ı wonder what could Fairey birds could achieve ıf they were not spoiled by admiralty.Wish they will add Seafire I-IV,Sea Hurricane II series
Im ass at the game so that heavyness was God sent. I was able to take head ons and eat roundd long enough for help to arrive and make it bacj to base to repair. In my eyes its one of ny favorite planes ive played so farr guvin im only at teir 3 with the americans and am fsirly nee to the game
I personally would have picked the F6F-5N over the basic F6F-5, as the additional 20mm cannons and radar give it a clear advantage over its predecessor, plus it has the same A2G loadout so you're not losing anything there.
When you talk about the Buffalo, an infamous failure in the Navy, instead of the Wildcat which had an excellent combat record. At least the other Grummans got in.
The British non premium variant is at the same BR with the same performance, but has no air to air missiles. Perfectly balanced as all things should be.
Suggestion: 'Rank does not matter.' What piece of Ground Force tech from each nation it most capable of fighting above its current BR, and why you may considering holding onto them as you progress further through the tree?
Favorite naval plane? Probably the F9F Panther. I've always been a fan of Grumman designs, and the F9F certainly didn't disappoint me. Not like the channel would actually acknowledge anyone's opinion or anything...
Interesting how they listed the F-4E as a "naval fighter" when that version of the Phantom never saw a carrier deck in its life. Just because a fighter has a tailhook doesn't mean it's automatically a naval fighter; look at the F-15 and F-16; they both have them, yet are dedicated land-based fighters.
Considering Japan had no carriers to put their naval capable fighter on it's obvious they've never seen one in real life operations, but the fact a plane is totally capable of naval operations gives that as part of it's designation. It's like saying the B7A2 isn't a naval bomber because the only carrier that could launch it was destroyed before they could operate.
@@Ko_Kasumi The difference between the B7A2 and the F-4E is that the B7A2 was designed to operate from carriers, the F-4E isn't; it may be able to land on a carrier, but it won't be able to be launched off it since it lacks equipment to use the catapults.
@@Orca19904 Depending on the power to weight of the plane it could be possible to launch without a catapult, actually there are modern carriers that don't have a catapult system and instead just use a slight ramp
Me, a Japanese player, sees video title: " oh finally our time to shine!" Video: Showcases...two Japanese naval fighter and the rest are practically Americans Me: "Fffffuuuuu-"
To be fair there weren't many natal fighters for Japan (A5M, A6M, and the never deployed A7M) while there is a bunch of em (F2F, F3F, F4F, F4U, F6F, after war jets) for the Americans
@@StevieTheBush " ITS NOT ABOUT NUMBERS , ITS ABOUT QUALITY !" Ah yes, go say that to the F6F with a ratio of 11:1 during WWII. After 41 the Zero was just a joke for the US, it's not surprising to only see the A7M and not the other Zeros. The US naval fighters are just better in all aspect other than turn rate.
@@Clement9892 When the F6F was made 1) the zero was already old 2) the americans knew how to fight the zero ( at high speed ) And i recomand you to compair the american fighters with the zero before saying that they were better at every aspect : The zero was 1000% more manouvrable The zero had at first the haviest possible armament The zero had at first the biggest range And the zero was faster than some F6Fs And saying that the american fighters had a k/d ratio of 11:1 is already SF They had , in deed high ratious not because they were better but because they were more than the zeroes in the air And that ratio is not for americans VS zero , its for americans vs japanese If you particulary make a ratio for every zero you will see that they outperformed the american fighters And the video its about planes at certain ranks , its not historical In the game the zero its the best at its Br and was the best until mid 1941 Please understand that its not about history but about Br
I am of the opinion that the A7M1 and A7M2 are absolutely the best fighters in the game period. Their guns put a serious hurting on the enemy, they handle extremely well, they're plenty fast, they are fantastic energy fighters, fantastic turn fighters and their climb rate is exceptional.
My fav Naval fighters is F6F-5N, that because Hellcats is my fav fighters in ww2, i use Hellcats so much in Tanks until i get P-47M and Ad-4 and still use her in Naval. The Capability of carrying wide variation of rockets, bombs, even Torpedo makes it an excellent fighter to use in mixed battle and it have radar, and boy i really like to use it in Simukator and surprised attack even Me-262 with it, it also quite durable, one time i was chasing Ju-288 in simulator, after i shot it down i just realized that i lost half of my wing, so bassicaly i chase that Ju-288 with half wing.
I love how 90% of the time I play naval aircraft I'm put into a landlocked map. I'd love some modern AC carriers for the jets like my F-4C and proper bases for waterbourne AC to land, repair, and rearm. Having to belly land my boats on land kinda takes a bit of the realism out of realistic battles, y'know? Thank you.
one aircarft not yet in WT and changed naval strategy is the harrier jump jet used in the falklands by the royal navy in 1982 against french made mirages and american made sky hawks
how about you fix "dead" helicopters so they die for real? i am sick as hell by getting killed long after the heli has been declared dead. especially that hideous ka50 is an absolute abomination
It's really the same thing that happens to planes, they can lose a wing and be called dead, but still be totally able to fly if the Pilot knows what to do, especially when it comes to Heli's losing their tail/rotor, you can still fly without one with difficulty, or of course the ka50 doesn't even need it's tail to stay airborne
Isn't the most important part of naval fighters the fact they can, you know, take off and landing from carriers? And they aren't even mentioned. This is just a selection of planes bounded by something in common, but that common thing is not relevant for this video. And talking about carriers, can we please get some more modern carriers? For the newer planes being introduced?
the F-4 phantom was originally was developed for the US navy and the marines, but was integrated into the Air Force later on, so calling the f-4 a naval fighter would be wrong considering the fact that the Air Force operated variants not built for the navy.
They should definitely make a map with just carriers and no island that only carrier aircraft can play because that would be fun rather than getting shot in the engine and dying from the engine overheating in a normal plane because you couldn’t land on the carrier
The F9F-2 Flies well without a wing, 4 cannons in the nose, WEP, Maneuverable. INSANELY DURABLE (well, in real life. They Landed on carriers without a whole wing, with over 260 holes from MiG cannons too.) It makes me wonder why they did so good against MiG’s in real life. They are not as fast as the MiG, and so its easy for a MiG to out turn you at high speeds to loop on your tail. I wonder that because of all the famous panther pilots. Royce Williams, Ted Williams, Neil Armstrong, Etc...
War thunder official channel: The A7M2 Reppu can climb fast and shot down almost anyone with its firepower A7M2:Can't climb without losing speed at 15 degrees, only makes sparks Legit
For the love of God Gaijan, add in a system where you can choose between Naval Air battles and Land Air Battles! If I wanted to play over Battle of the Bulge I’d use a Mustang!
peice of history the royal navy had to show the US navy how to use its corsairs from carriers .........................................While the US Navy took a more cautioned approach, the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm introduced the Corsair fighters first. This move was largely because while the US Navy had the proven F6F Hellcat fighters, the British existing carrier fighters were less capable. 424 Corsair fighters were also given to the British Commonwealth Forces of New Zealand. British and Commonwealth operational experiences were fed back to Chance Vought, the manufacturers of the model, while British pilots shared an alternate landing technique with the US Navy. It was then that the US navy began adopting them for carrier service. As the Japanese began operating Special Attack tactics, the now-nicknamed "Sweethearts of the Marianas" began to display their strengths as their faster speed and climb rate were much better suited for intercepting special attack aircraft than anything else in the Allied arsenal.
