While I am a knife enthusiast, I also have a family, mortgage, etc, etc....you get the picture. And while I would enjoy buying some of the lovely and oh so pricey knives, it's good to know there are budget worthy kinves that I can afford...So thanks for this update. Now I can leave Christmas hints with my three kids and oh so lovely wife. Thanks guys!

There are so many. just need to decide blade steel and size. many nice ones in the neck knife size. 100s in the 5" and 6" size. all under $50 with aus8, aus10, sk5 and D2. don't need to play with the cheaper blade steels.

I don't consider well made inexpensive knives to be a niche , its the main market. Knives that cost more than $300 are a niche; most people would never spend that much on a pocket knife or camping knife.

I noticed the expensive knives on many websites are not selling due to the economy, also on ebay you can get some good deals on Great Eastern cutlery knives because the resellers are not selling them at inflated prices no one is overpaying for those anymore due to the lousy economy. People have cut way back on spending including me I am done buying expensive knives costing $100.00 plus and not buying even the low priced knives. I have enough already in my collection to last me a lifetime LT Wright , GEC, Lionsteel , and some expensive hand forged custom knives I do not need anymore. It will be nice to save money now and only buy what I really need and not be in debt. I think the online and retail store sales will not be good this Christmas for retailers on expensive items and just overall sales.

I know these are newer knives,but I think the dozier is my favorite budget folder. It checks all the boxes- 3 inch blade, neutral handle, good grip and jimping, lightweight, slim, strong lock up, attractive blade shape. Basic but not boring. I have the srm on the way, might try out the schrade.
@emersonb5764
@emersonb5764 Год назад
I was pretty disappointed by the honey badger. The handle is so flimsy that the lock bar tension is enough to throw off blade centering, and when you adjust it to be centered, the handle is banana shaped cus of the liner pushing it out of whack. The ergos are decent and the blade grind is nice, but the blade stock is crazy thick for having such a flimsy handle. Sort of a mis-match. Flimsy handle can handle most tasks, but the blade thickness is way overkill for those tasks.

1 am 71, British (with silly knife laws). I have always loved knives and have, over many years, built quite a collection of unusual ones. My grandfather always carried a two blade slipknife. However it was called a 'turnbuckle', with small rings that, as you turned them, turned / twisted the blade out - and back in. I have never been able to find one, let alone buy one. Do they still make and / or sell these?

I really WANTED to like the KA-BAR Becker BK40D2. I returned the first one for side to side blade play. The replacement is a hair better, but there’s no way to “fix” this. The scales are a nice shape (though slippery) but both frame and scales are simply weak and flex easily. Four position clip is a big plus, but that clip needs a little work. That’s a good piece of D2 (though I might take a little of the belly out because I use a piercing point), but the rest of the knife simply doesn’t do it justice. Looking for good EDC to replace the SERE2000 I’ve carried for most of two decades. So far, the black RAT-1 I found on Am***n for $24 is the best bang for buck. Bump up that AUS-8 $15-20 worth to premium steel, and you have something. Sad about the BK40D2 but I need a hard use knife.

I live in a state allowing sub-4” blades and have grown accustomed to larger handles. However, I frequently travel to (and through) states where 3” is the limit. What models would you recommend with a 3” or less blade and a well-proportioned larger handle? The Leek (while lovely) often feels too small in the hand while my CJRB Crag is an excellent fit without using the finger choil. I also own the Cara Cara 2, Penguin, Ria, and Super Tinker. None are perfect options. I’d trade comfort for steel quality as it’s not a commonly needed knife. I lean toward sheepsfoot, wharncliffe, and clip point blades, but don’t care for tantos. Old fashioned slip joints are also an option. Sub-$60 would be amazing. Thanks!

FED UP with mostly D2 knives .... I dont like that steel at all. it can rust , its often too high HRC / more than 60 up to 62 , so its VERY difficult to sharpen , and is proned to break easily. OK it stays sharp longer on a budget , but its the only + you get , and you loose a lot on all others characteristics. Really bad choice for so many budget knives today.... 9CR18 , 440C , 14C28N , AUS8 are MUCH better choices . ( and even 12C27 or 420HC , or 8CR13 are better options for me ) ; )

Ya so ima be honest, I'm way more excited about all the button locks coming out on the budget side rather than the cross bar/ "axis" style locks. And thats for one simple reason...omega springs. So damn sick of omega springs. And what's worse is the cross bar lock has been done without them and with a standard coil spring before and yet the constantly breaking omegas are still the standard. Button locks are just way better. They're just as ambidextrous, just as strong (arguably stronger) and are still fidget friendly without that pesky omega spring issue.

From what I've heard, you can make your own omega springs out of piano wire.

@@chefboiarby304 in principle ya but in practice its a nightmare. I've tried it with guitar strings and while it works its really iffy on tension. That and bending the string into the right shape is really finicky.

Why would you choose the Sencut over the civivi mini praxis?

I've had more knives in 8cr rust than knives in D2 if I'm being honest but I'm just one.

Same here. Had both a Kershaw and a CRKT in 8Cr rust on me.

@@Ericstraordinary What blade finish do they have? I know a lot of the 8Cr13MoV Kershaws sport a bead blasted finish which makes the blade a lot more rust prone than a satin finish or coated finish.

By the numbers the US economy is kicking butt. Supply is almost back to pre covid levels. Prices are supposed to be dropping. Unless we have just excepted being ripped off.

Kabar for the win in this video . That Schrade is pretty damn neat , Id be shocked if DCA ever included a Buck Bantam in these type videos . I dont see how they can be beat for 22 bucks . Maybe I missed it

Love the Bantam and have featured it several times, but this vid was focused on stuff that was new this year -DCA

I liked a previous comment about budget fixed blades but I wanted to ask you and the community if there is something out there for what I'm looking for. I like the size of the Ferrum Forge blades but I want something in 154cm or similar. I want to carry it IWB and as an EDC. I was waiting on the SOG Altair Fx but that is not the price SOG said they would sell them for and honestly the prices of these things are getting a bit ridiculous. 154 has been out for over 20 years (I've been carrying it on duty for as long). If anyone can help I would appreciate it. A flat ground, drop point with a 4ish" handle and 3ish" blade is ideal. I want to cut rope, utility and slice a few apples and maybe a steak at a camp fire or restaurant.
