In this video I will put together a flight of my top non aged stated peated single malt scotch whisky. Taste them blind and let you know what bottle I like the best. The bottle I like most will move on to the next round and go up against the previous winners.

Ugi is really hard to beat, I also like the Lore, just wish it was a little less expensive. I recently picked up a bottle of Kilchoman sanaig and am really enjoying that one, and looking fwd to future Kilchoman releases.

Kilchoman is on my radar for 2024. Definitely like what they are doing.

Yes - Ugi is a beast of peat/sherry. t's really top-notch, but you can feel it in the price. The little brother An Oa is not bad either, but it is more like a pleasant, but not a league. (my experience - Kilchoman Sanaig - Lagg corriecravie - Ledaig rioja - Benromach Contrast Bordeaux - their affordable/great NAS whiskeys in the peat/cask line) Since peated whiskey is of quite many types, I usually divide it into two - peated and peat/cask lines. Poor Longrow is really out of line now. :_D Enjoyable correct tasting again!

It will be interesting to see how the Ugi does in the finals. I think it has to finish in the top 2. Just my prediction.

Eclectic top shelf lineup!!!! Ardbeg core range is hard to beat. Highland peat is worth a go also. Ancnoc Cutter or Rascan and Benromach Peat Smoke are worthy contenders. Mostly Bourbon matured and pretty clean.
@whiskeyisajourney
@whiskeyisajourney 4 месяца назад
I am definitely leaning towards the bourbon matured recently. I still like the sherry, but it has lost a little bit of its luster. Cheers.

Nice flight! Here's a few other peated NAS.... Kilchoman Sanaig is a really good one, Ledaig Rioja Cask finish also, Ardbeg Corryvreckan (to me, better than the Uggie), Ardnamurchan Sherry Cask release, Laphroaig Quater Cask, Bunnahabhain Cruach-Mhona, Talisker Dark Storm...and if you can find it, Talisker 57*North (to me, the best Talisker ever) Cheers

Oogie is a great peated scotch! I was on a peat kick last night, had several Octomores in a row and some different lagavulins. Hail to the PEAT!

I think we talked about this, but my next peated video next Friday will have the Octomore 13.2 in it. I really like that bottle. It will be an upset if it does not win next week.

I highly recomend you, if you can find it in your area, Laphroaig An Cuan Mor. A terrible good peated NAS, 48% ncf/nc goodness. Imo is better then Ugi and Lore. Another nas that could easily be in your lineup is Corrivreckan. Another peated monster. Kudos!!!
@whiskeyisajourney

Nice! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely be looking for the Laphroaig. Cheers!

There are a few NAS peated scotches in my collection that I would put higher than Oogie: Corryvreckan, some of the Laphroaig Cairdeas releases, Some of the Octomore releases, and Benromach Cask Strength...although the Benromachs usually still tell you distillation/bottling dates so not technically NAS. Fun to watch this one though, as I have had all of those except the Lore.

Octomore will make an appearance next Friday along with another Ardbeg, Springbank, and Ledaig.

Great review Peter. The Uigeadail winning this flight is not a surprise to me. I have done basic compare minus the Lore and for me, the Ugi seems to top the likes of Longrow peated, Laphroaig 10 CS, Lagavulin CS, Talisker 10. I believe Benromach contrast peated is another good one and I have the bottle down to the last 1/4 but I believe it's not a fair comparison as Ugi is a higher abv, briny salty savory thick peat compared to Benromach. I have Kilchoman Sanaig which I will try against Ugi to see how that goes. Cheers!
@whiskeyisajourney
@whiskeyisajourney 4 месяца назад
I had a feeling going into this that the Uigeadail would be the clear winner. I though the Kilchoman would have finished higher, but the Lore was going to be tough to beat. It will be interesting to see how all the winners of each flight do up against one another. The best of the best is going to interesting.

Lovely line up! All of them are solid. It's funny when you put the Longrow as last it gives the impression that it isn't good, but it's just that all of these are great and something had to come in 4th place.

Man oh man I remember having Peated Longrow at $48 before tax and being dissatisfied. Ardbeg Uggie I’ve had and is #1 to me. I didn’t have Kilchoman Loch Gorm but have had multiple Machir Bay and it was ok. I may try Kilchoman Machir Bay Cask Strength vs Ardbeg Uggie to see what is better.

Never tried a Kilchoman nor a Longrow, but you absolutely can't go wrong with the Uigeadail. Never tried the Lore but have tried enough Laphroaigs to know it will not disappoint. In fact it's a bottle I'm following in case a deal pops up.

@@whiskeyisajourney I have ordered a few samples (absolute first for me) and one of them is the Sanaig. Bowmore 15 as well, but super low expectations, just want to taste their profile. The last samples are a Deanston 18, an Old Pulteney 18 and a lovely Speyside 22 years single Sherry butt raw cask.

I haven't seen the Loch Gorm (although I have the Sanaig and the Machir Bay), but I have and thoroughly enjoy the other three. Uigeadail surprised me last year in winning my Malt Madness tournament.

The Loch Gorm opened up really nicely as you get the bottle down past the shoulder but I'm not sure I would splurge for it again. For a 46% peat it's a bit pricey. I've been enjoying the USA releases which are over 48% and are a mix of casks. And about $75.

Liking your videos and the little "tournaments" you have going. And seeing how they act as a blend in the end is an inspired finishing touch. I don't often have multiple glasses in front of me, but I'd like to experience it.

In this group you put together I would definitely go with the Ardbeg Uigeadail as well. An amazing pour. 🥃 I don't recall ever seeing you review a Highland Park or a Talisker.
@whiskeyisajourney
@whiskeyisajourney 4 месяца назад
You are correct. The HP and Talisker are not my favorite profiles in my collection so I left them out of the flights. I was going to put the Talisker Distillers Edition into this fight, but pulled it at the just second.
@lyacoubian
@lyacoubian 4 месяца назад
@@whiskeyisajourney Talisker Distiller's Edition is dark, sweet and moderately peaty, like a gentler version of an Ardbeg Uigeadail. I figured it would be right up your alley. But it isn't a NAS whisky. It's their 10 yo Talisker + 1 more year in ex-amoroso sherry casks.
