The goal of those races was to have Lindsay always be in first, and whoever won behind her was the winner of the contest. Because she's an agent of chaos, she decided to veer away from the finish line to see what would happen, causing Ryan and Micheal to inadvertently disqualify themselves.

Let's dig in my memory for a moment. I believe... yes, Geoff wanted to play Civ 5 back in the day, but he was afraid the game wasn't really going to work well, and then Ryan just announced "hey, let's do Civ 5 right now" which would have been a good thing if it hadn't been right after an Off Topic (I believe? I know it was something that had involved drinking) so the end result was something that wasn't suitable for viewing. So, my guess is that Geoff wants to avoid a repeat of this since it'll probably not be up to AH standards (i.e. interesting for the audience to watch). I know they attempted Terraria in the past too (a game that I was hoping they'd play) but it just didn't click for them, so they never released it.
