Chitra Singh stopped singing after the death of Vivek in 1990. That there are so many people listening to her songs even today and commenting on her brilliance is probably the simplest definition of immortality....what an amazing voice!

My parents decided to name me after this extremely talented woman. I've up until now never been introduced to this genre of music but as soon as she began singing it felt like a part of me lifted. Such a soothing, surreal voice--this is my favorite ghazal now.

if you happen to listen to all this sound in original...... you will be flabbergasted Chitra !!!! I have Hi fi cassettes of the same. and a 1978 made kenwood kx 630 cassette tape deck - bought in a scrap and repaired it myself..... I am a CA by profession !!!

I listened to her collection in 2008.. During those late nights when I was Hospitalised I use to listen.. They take you to different place, touches your soul and bringout painful thoughts in many cases... Esp. Safar me dhoop. I barely listen to her now but they will always remain in my collection. So well said Jitendra. She is such a gift for late nights. I heard JS and her through out my younger days. My heart broke when JS left the physical abode and years before that Chitra jee had broken my heart already by quitting to sing. I don't think we can expect anyone at their level.

For forty years in my case after attending a concert! Took a while to sink in (except the poetry which was digestible) because I'm musically tone deaf but every replay makes our gratitude to the "Royal Couple" perpetual as the renderings sink deeper into us. A mere thank you is a bare token gesture. Sure, there are others waiting in the wings but Chitraji and Jagjitji will remain in the topmost echelon. The accompanying artists also merit our gratitude.

चित्रा जी और जगजीत साहेब ..... बस आपकी गज़ल पूरी हो गयी । इसके बाद कुछ और कहने की ज़रूरत नहीं रेह जाती है । चित्रा जी की आवाज़ मे एक अजीब से कशिश है जो गज़ल को बार बार रिपीट करके सुनने को प्रेरित करता है । ऐसा ही जगजीत साहेब की गज़ल के दौरान भी महसूस होता है .... आपके हाथ बरबस ही रिपीट बटन पर पड़ जाते हैं । " चित्रा जी की आवाज़ उस एहसास का नाम है जो सामने रहती है पर दिखाई नहीं देती "
