gilmour is no doubt a good player but never compare apple to oranges every artist have different approach, if you're looking for speed, phrasing you should listen to shawn lane, there are too many great player in the list,allan holdsworth, gambale vito bratta, stevie ray vaugn, yngwie, joe sat, steve vai, guthrie, petrucci just to name a few, and there is a lot more

Be thankful you discovered him, right? The sheer genius of his abilities is evident everytime he picks up a guitar! He's definitely in my top 5, but I can't crown him #1, no matter how much I love his musical genius. Hendrix will always be #1.

@@doug2727 Hendrix was more a guitar Engineer. Gilmore makes very long melodic guitar gems, and redefined a Solo. The others all just produce very short, fleeting solos. Gilmore is Unique, and turns his Solo into a long melodic masterpiece, completely complimented by the band.

There are a few others, like Gary Moore at the height of his powers (as mentioned by @Michael Esdohr), Jeff Beck & Richard Thompson. But they're a rare breed. Surprising just how many of the most expressive are British, as well (as with the 3 mentioned here).

It's awesome. His guitar solos are awesome, but also his singing in this song. Brings tears to my eyes and whenever he sings his parts in Comfortably Numb, he sounds as good as the did in his 20's. What a gift to him and to us.

This David Gilmore guy is probably by far one of the most disturbing and dull guitarists that have ever been. He has a way of screwing and messing with them g-strings every time he tries or struggles to play it. I think that's why it so disturbing to the educated musical ear. Maybe the man was trying to be "unique" back in the day? Who knows, maybe 50 years from now people will listen to this horrible noise and mistake it for "music"? I feel so sorry for the kids of the next generations who inherit this garbage.😬

Stevie Ray could hold his own like Gilmore and Hendrix they just fade away. I learned guitar by listening to inflections and bends so important for the connection
