I was lucky enough to know him since my grandfather was his pastor. He used to take me and my sister for rides around the block in his Rolls-Royce when we were little. I last saw him in a barber shop in LA in 1999 or 2000. I also attended his funeral where I saw OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson. He is always missed. His firm represented our family against a hospital successfully. We were and still are very proud of him and his great career. And I'm glad he lived to see Geronimo Pratt walk out of prison. He BEAT the FBI in a 27 year case. He never gave up on his brother. That was his proudest professional moment. Gotta love that.
Excellent interview. Can we admire how Dini conducted this interview in a very genuine and down-to-earth manner with the quintessential professional, equitable, and esteemed lawyer Johnnie Cochran. Thank you Dini.✌RIP Johnnie Cochran.
Johnny Cochran was a very complex man. He was blessed to have a wonderful mother and father who set high standards for him. Like him or not, you cannot deny his eloquence. R.I.P. Mr. Cochran.
I used to despise Cochran, but I see now what he did. As they said, he put the system on trial. This trial went exactly the way it needed to: to expose flaws, expose nefarious parties and to show that the race issue is way more complicated than anyone thought.
This shouldn’t have been about race though - it should have been about the clear evidence that O.J. did it - he used race to smoke screen the evidence that’s all - he didn’t care about nothing else

@@gowerbarnes Both The US & The UK have been founded on notions of "Racial Superiority." So, how isn't this about "Race" again?
Un Nefer Heru I said this case should not have been about race but the evidence - you tell me who did it then - some Columbian hit man - bullshit - if you want to get on your soapbox talking about institutional racism; thats fine but it doesn’t relate to my comment
@@gowerbarnes I don't know if race is blinding you or you are just plain dumb but regardless of whether OJ did it or not, the system needed to be put on trial on the wide platform provided for it to change and Johnnie knew this. I think OJ did it and I'm black but the system needed to be changed and OJs case provided the platform for the failures to be highlighted
@@gowerbarneswhat makes him a sob exactly? Just because he showed how the courts and police dept really were and their true colors doesn’t make him a sob. How dare you!!
This man damn near oozed charisma and charm. Absolutely gifted speaker. This man's words and charm literally convinced a jury to let a man get away with murder.
@@dwanyewest The radical extremists are the ones who believe that independent women should never harbour romantic feelings for men, that they should either be lesbians or machines.
People are quick to criticize Cochran but they tend to completely ignore the fact that the lead investigator pleaded the 5th to the question of planting evidence in that case.
When a senior police officer pleads the fifth when asked "was your previous testimony truthful" that's absolutely disgusting on the part of the police. And I believe OJ Simpson actually committed those heinous crimes, but when a justice system becomes so corrupt, you reap what you sow.
@@theevilascotcompany9255one of the most sensible comments summing up the case. I believed he was guilty but the overkill was planting evidence and perjury.
@@theevilascotcompany9255 He pleaded the 5th because the defense attorneys who knew OJ was guilty was asking Mark Furhman all sorts of ridiculous, absurd, foolish questions....even a toddler would've been able to understand this.

People saying how terrible of a man he is...show me an honest lawyer lol he did his JOB, and did it damn well. I would hate to have him on the opposite bench against me, but id love him on my side

I miss him too, he’s the most intelligent and skillful lawyer i’ve ever seen. The way he represented OJ and made the whole case as a conspiracy thing in order to win jury’s compassion.
@@zlatan166 No, the defense merely did its job of pointing out flaws in the prosecution's case, and pointed out enough flaws to raise reasonable doubt.
He wasn't, he just lied with a ton of words, he defended a murder just cuz he was black, that made him a racist. Nicole simpson was BUTCHERED AT HER OWN HOUSE. SHAME ON YOU
@@Steevee14 which is a horrible despicable thing trying to get somebody off from a crime which they are obviously guilt as oj simpson was johnnie knew it he 's not stupid
He was a very clever man. People can’t blame him for what OJ did. Johnnie did his job, which was to get his client acquitted. Johnnie is the kind of lawyer you would want if you were guilty! I’m sad he’s no longer with us.
Great episode D. Please get more of the episodes on here They were great shows and should be seen again especially for those to young to have seen them. Hope you and Sam and Nick are all doing well. Hope to bump into you downtownn again one day . Hello to Sam. Be Well Be Safe , Jim Toronto
OJ WAS GUILTY he knew that hes is a brilliant man. HE DID HIS JOB EXCELLENTLY but theres no way he actually thought oj ws innocent, cmon. be realistic, lol
@@IMIICIHIAIEIL NOPE we really don’t know that for sure. The crooked racist police department and fuhrman was so worried about setting up the case to make OJ look guilty he tampered with evidence. Once you tamper with evidence no one knows for sure what really happened. Why didn’t he just follow protocol? Furhman was a known racist who set up so many innocent black men and put them behind bars . He should have been the one behind bars. It was even admitted in trial he would find reasons to pull over “nig@@“ black man if he had no reason he find one. Funny Fuhrman was the only one criminally charged in the case and stripped Of the badge. He should have got life for what he was out their doing for 20 years. My verdict if on the jury would have been not guilty easily
This is how an interview should be conducted. Nowadays the interviewers don't let the other person speak and seems like they are debating. Dini Petty did a great job
Jennie RedRose He was. Are you still listening to rap? What do you know about Half a mill? Sun was no joke...Listen to his song called "Quiet Money" it's feat Az
Tigalo Baldi I’m from the United States too Mr. Baldi. I’m not saying guilty people don’t need defense attorneys, nor did I allude to that idea. Of course they do. Because of course they’re not going to admit to their guilt. I’m trying to say that Johnnie knew O.J. was guilty of the crime of murder and defended him. And to your point, yes he is legally defending him but Cochran is using that as his validity to defend someone who took two beautiful souls from this earth. Look at how he brilliantly dodges or maneuvers anything insinuating guilt on O.J. He’s got you fooled that’s for sure.
Its because mr cochran is so brilliant oj got off. Even if there was a picture or video of oj commiting the crime, this defense team would be able to talk him out of prison
Talk shows and news before they became strictly entertainment. No yelling. No need for censorship. No cussing. Very professional. Journalism was a thing. Men and women, were different.
“It is the job of the defense attorney, especially when representing the guilty, to prevent by all lawful means, the truth from coming out.” -Alan Dershowitz ( _The Best Defense_ )
As everyone should be that has half an ounce of decency left in their body. It was a trial that was supposed to serve justice for the Brown and Goldman families, instead Cochran made a circus out of the court and made up not very elaborate conspiracy theories that nowadays you'd only hear from fox news consumers. His luck was the highly uneducated jury. Nothing else. Today everyone knows what DNA is, back then the jurors couldn't even spell it. A shameful trial all in all.
@@raffa4456 Since you care so much about DNA evidence, you might be surprised to learn that the DNA that the forensic scientists extracted from skin that was underneath Nicole Brown's fingernails did not match OJ Simpson. So now what, Mr. Empiricist?
Garnett Taylor well for a start, bringing Fuhrman to the stand was a terrible idea as well as getting OJ to try on the gloves. They butchered the case son
No he did not OJ was innocent and I was just a baby when OJ trial came out. I wish I was on that juror to say he was innocent. Johnny was one of the greatest lawyers of this era
I hate him for helping a murderer to get away with freedom, but I respect him for his craft as a lawyer. He just spoke way too fast.....he had to have a life full of fight and headaches. Don't envy him at all despite all the amassed wealth.
