You totally have my attention with this series. Thank you for your commitment to giving us your honest opinion on these foundations. Over 60 and experiencing dry skin.
Excited for this series! Your foundation reviews are the best! I LOVED the Charlottes Beautiful Skin, so pretty and radiant...and I so wish NARS had a shade for me. Now I have a few more on my wish list....So many foundations...only one face LOL! And BTW… love love love your sweater! Where did you get it? ❤
Such a great round-up of the best foundations of 2022. Love your honest opinions and detailed information on each one. I think I will try CT beautiful skin. I do love the Chanel No.1 in B20 (not a perfect match for me either) and the Nars light reflecting (no perfect match - I have to mix shades like you). Enjoyed watching. Thankyou. 😊
Jane IREDALE’S liquid minerals foundation was repackaged and a slight reformulation, and the color range is different and much better. This product is a tinted serum, and has a time release hydration. Works as a wonderful primer 💖
Beautiful list, loved to watch, thank you so much!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩 Being a critical European watching brands i got bored by for many years, i never thought that i would love a Chanel foundation with my sensitive skin, as they mostly added to much fragrance to it, but this year, i love the Chanel Sublimage Foundation (B20) and the Sublimage Concealer (shade 10)!!!! Have a great day!!!!😘😘😘😘
Great, honest, funny video. You certainly covered a lot of 'shades'. I have the same problem! I actually 'hate' buying foundation, but will try the CT.
Chanel No 1 (in B20) is absolutely perfect for me. I'm old (68) and it is the most flattering foundation I have ever used. I set it with the tiniest amount of Suqqu Oil Rich Glow Powder which preserves the radiance.
Am 62 and love the Nars light reflecting foundation in Patagonia. Tried so many to find non fragrance and non irritating formula with gorgeous finish that I don't need to powder.
Thanks for all the information. I have dry mature skin and I have a tough time finding a foundation that I like. The colors never seem to match 😡. You gave me some ideas to try and some to NOT to try !! Also I wish they would use different ages models as most are just geared toward younger women. Thanks !
Nice way to round up the year, Kiki...I have fallen for CT Beautiful Skin, too! 6N is probably my best shade match ever...such an amazing f8nish and lasts.
This was an amazing collection of reviews. Thanks for your hard work. I have decided that I read ingredients first. If it has denatured alcohol, I won’t even consider it. I am your undertone, but One level lighter and totally agree on colors/ undertones . It seems harder and harder to find a good color. I just use the tower 28 or my stash of bite foundation! NARS was soooo difficult.
I gave up on trying new foundations because of the same issue that nothing matches me! I don't want to risk buying 5 different shades trying to get my exact match. It's so frustrating being a true neutral girl out there!
Me too! They are either too yellow or orange. Have you tried Makeup by Mario it was the only spot on for me! But I am trying to go with cleaner ingredients
Hi, Could you please make a note of what shades you have/use? I am the same shade in the Charlotte Tilbury & I love that foundation. I just found you & subscribed instantly. Love your forthright approach. I’m off to binge your other videos. Side note: you probably know this but Sephora should have a scanner for your skin tone/shade to help you buy a “perfect” shade. I also go onto their website & use the shade match feature, which helps me wherever I buy my foundation. And my benchmark is the CT foundation.
Because my skin is so uneven (the forehead is fine, but I have surface pinkness on the cheeks) I didn't get a good result with the scanner. I do use the shade match tool on the Sephora site though. It's a great option. My links usually go directly to the shades I'm using - but my description box also has most of my foundations (not all) and the shade I use.
What’s your shade in Jones Road? I’m having a hard time figuring out which to order and I’m only slightly darker than you. Thanks so much for another great video!
I’ve actually been waiting for this video because I need to buy a foundation and there’s just way too many out there right now. I’m going to try Gucci Westmans. When you talked about Patrick Ta, you made my day - I just burst out laughing!
My skin tone and color depth is very similar to yours and it is indeed so difficult to find a neutral that isnt yellow, flat out orange, or pink. I dont know if you have tried the Ilia Skin Tint SPF 40 but they have some neutrals that are actually neutral. If you send them a selfie they will match you and the color descriptions on the site are very descriptive. I am 75 so I understand your concern about alcohol. It certainly isnt a favorite but whether is is actually deterimental when comopunded in a product depends greatly on what the other ingredients are in the product and whether they mitigate any drying from alcohol. Cheers!
I really like the Jones Road too! You were the first person to make it look good and provide a positive review. Like you, I have really dry skin so it suits me well now that the cold weather has hit/heat is running.
I didn’t try higher end foundations until I started following you. I have tossed all my drugstore brands. Some were pretty good but there is difference on finish. A test for me is when I can wear a foundation with a little blush, some lips but no eye makeup and feel polished. That just doesn’t happen with drugstore brands and drugstore brands always oxidize. I learned a lot this year. After 4 shades of NARS, finally landed on Deauville which works this time of year. Because of the shade challenge kept looking. I have the CT and the color is really close. I wore it today and felt great but none of her other products work for me as they lean too warm. So I tend to forget to use the foundation. I bought ABH Luminous foundation (I guess not new this year but new to me) and love it. Perfect shade right away for summer. Just bought Haus, love it too and also perfect shade from the first swatch and is seamless on my skin. Perfect shade with Dior Forever Skin Glow but only got a sample. Now I know why…I thought of it as special occasion. Didn’t dawn on me until you made that comment. Anyway - I am forbidding myself from buying any more foundation. 😂
Hi! I really appreciate your thoroughness with ingredients, shades, and wear for foundations. Have you ever tried NARS Sheer Glow? Would like to hear your thoughts about it. Thank you!
I guess I need to try the Charlotte tilbury foundation I have heard nothing but awful things ab it so I skipped it but I usually always agree w you on foundations 🤔
Fabulous summary, thank you, I’m an avid watcher of your videos- after watching you I purchased cle de peau foundation and blush and the Givenchy and I love them, however I did buy the Lisa Eldridge in 10 and I love that too. I love a wide selection of foundations as my skin varies day to day but a bit hesitant of buying too many in case they go “off” before I use them, having said that I don’t think I’ve ever actually ran out of a foundation ! I usually get bored with it before the end ! do you use after 6 months? (Arsehole 😅 exactly!)
I know you work so hard. My husband is upstairs editing right now to post a video I think for tomorrow. It’s a lot of hard work. Whenever I can I will support you. We buy a lot from Amazon. While I do have 2 other people that I like and would like to support, I will always keep you in mind. I know buying stuff for reviews is pricy.
I absolutely loved your video, and I especially appreciate that you recommended a few foundations, rather than recommending them ALL....like many people do! So of the 4 or 5 which you recommend, which would you say is the LIGHTEST coverage? Thank you for the video and your time!! 🤩 (my skin also leans dry and I'm not a teenager anymore ;) )
For Chanel the foundations that are numbered the ones that end in 0 are neutral, the ones that end in 1 are warm, and the ones that end in 2 are cool. For the ones that are light, light medium, medium, medium deep, etc are supposed to be neutral but I find them to run warm. It may just be my skin though. Hope this helps! Your videos always help me. 😊
This is VERY helpful! Thanks so much!! - Now...are their mid-shades? For instance, I feel I've seen some foundations that are .5 ... have I? And if so, does that mean it falls between the previous 0 and the next 0?
@@TheHoodedLid I haven’t seen.5 in Chanel. But I’m no expert, just a make up enthusiast. I find their numbering system to work pretty well but haven’t tried all the foundations. There are specific ones that may run a little deeper or lighter but the sales usually knows which ones and can guide me in picking the right shade. Call a Chanel counter and ask about .5 shades to be sure. ♥️
Thank you for mentioning that increased commission rate as an explanation for a smattering of reviews for a certain product all at once. That makes perfect sense, but I had no idea. I kind of hate that RU-vid it’s incentivized for that reason, but then again, I do want good content creators to be rewarded. Thank you!
Usualy you and I are the same or very close to the same shade. Did you happen to try the beige shades in cle de peau? Usually beige works for me (unless it’s yellow) right now my favorites are shiseido radiant and Valentino…. Also my favorite find of the month is nars light reflecting pressed powder for under my eyes! I’m pretty amazed! Literally can’t tell I’m wearing powder but somehow it blurs (and I’m super dry I don’t even like the Pat McGrath!) I buy the mini for $20! Cheaper than Pat McGrath too!
We must have nearly an identical skin tone. Chanel colors-- I'm slightly darker than a 2.0 and slightly lighter than a 3.0. I've nearly given up on Nars colors! Fiji too light and Patagonia too dark. I tend to wear Dior Forever in 2.5N and Pat McGrath Skin Fetish in 10.0. I enjoy your channel so much!
My parents are Italian and Dutch. Once i realized that i simply needed 2 shades of foundation, everything became easy. Personally i have need for a brighter cool tone for some parts, and a neutral-warm for others.
It’s been frustrating for me too finding the right shade ! I am experimenting with color pigment correcting from L. A girl they have blue pigment to make it cool, white to lighten foundation, etc. Elf also came up with these options but I could not find them at Ulta. So I found a kit with all 4 pigment colors from LA girl. Beats buying 2 expensive foundations !
When you gave a favorable review to the Chantecaille Future Skin Cushion, along with other reviewers, I ordered it and I LOVE it. My fav foundation of all time. I don't need or like much coverage. I have received compliments when I wear it. The finish is beautiful. I believe you paired it with the YSL Touche Eclat and that's the combo I use too, with Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas primer.
I have the same problem with shade matching, Kiki. I have a light, cool but olive complexion and any foundation I've tried has been either too orange or too grey. Can't match up with most foundations except Lisa Eldridge and it's because it's a light coverage complexion product that blends with my skin rather than covers it. I like too that it dries down and stays a good long time. But to be honest, I only wear foundation when I go out or for a special occasion, which is not that regularly. I like using Charlotte Tilbury Flawless filter and then sparingly use concealer on my face on a daily basis (the Dior Forever Skin formula). Looking forward to hearing what you think of other products for 2022!
It's actually a sweater cami with a very cropped "over sweater." Got it last year, here's the link - but it's sold out www.shopbop.com/imani-sweater-set-astr-label/vp/v=1/1546334415.htm This is similar style go.magik.ly/ml/1pdjv/
Givenchy Prisme Libre Glow foundation didn't make the cut for 2022? lol Also, just wondering, do you always set the above-mentioned foundations with powder? Thank you for this wonderful and informative video.
I love the Givenchy - but that came out the year before (bought my 2nd bottle at the Sephora sale!). Yes, I always set because my skincare is so shiny!
@@TheHoodedLid I took your advice and ordered the Givenchy foundation. Not sure how it will look on me but I'm hoping for the best. I've been wearing tinted sunscreens and tinted moisturizers but they are not hiding my imperfections so this is why I feel I may need foundation. I've also ordered the Olehenriksen Banana Eye cream and the Laneige Toner Moisturizer after watching one of your videos and WOW, they work beautifully.
Thank you for that “insider info” re: the Jones Road foundation, and how influencer crap works in general. People don’t always understand how they are being sold on stuff that may or may not be good. It’s why I’m picky about who I watch, because entertaining or no, money is a driver. It’s the same with people who get a ton of PR… how much do they want to keep getting freebies from brands? Sometimes they want the free stuff more than they desire to give you the truth about products. Btw… a definite “non-luxury” brand, but I quite liked the L’Oréal Age Perfect Serum foundation. Yes, the shade range is shit, especially for paler skin where they all lean too warm IMO, but at the price point? I don’t mind buying two and mixing. It sits so nicely & doesn’t sink into my not-so-fine lines. Even looks decent in the crease of my nose, where almost none ever look good. I do have to powder in a few spots because it’s quite dewy (not sparkly, dewy), but it really is a quality option in an affordable foundation. Does have alcohol which means I won’t wear it daily :-/ Thanks for these reviews. I appreciate a no-BS review for aging skin!
I don't always comment on your videos but I love them and your honesty and I am in the same boat as you are as far as colors soon as I get it home it changes I just bought Chanel cc cream and it settles into my pores really bad I got the color 2.0 or maybe it's just too light I don't know what I'm doing wrong with this? Have you tried this Chanel CC cream?
I didn't even know they had a CC cream - but polka dot pores is not a good result - don't blame yourself. Maybe a dimethicone sunscreen can act as a primer for it?
@@TheHoodedLid Well thank you I didn't know that I normally don't use a primer I wish I knew a primer I could use with just about everything with my foundations but with dimethicone or silicone-based primers which I'm not really sure of some of the foundations would separate I would love to wear a primer I wonder if they make them water-based hmm 🤔 But yeah it is wonderful I mean wonderful I haven't been taking good care of my skin so maybe it's my fault about the pores around my nose TBH w you But it is a wonderful CC cream other than that
You're not the first to ask - but I honestly don't remember. I usually make notes of what I'm wearing but on this day I didn't and it was several days later that someone asked (by that time I'd long forgotten - lol) Sorry!
If you had a house fire and could only afford to buy one foundation what would be your choice based on colour etc etc . AND what colour would the foundation be ? Thank you so much love your honesty ❤
OMG, KiKi I can never find a shade match either! Everything is too yellow or too pink. I'm a true neutral and it is soooo hard to find. It drives me crazy. I have the Nars in Vienna which is supposed to be cool but it just isn't. So annoying.
Thank you, my personal opinion is that all five powders look great on you, but it's hard to find the ideal shade when I try them, I like how ChanelN1 looks on me personally ... but I would appreciate your opinion about the foundation Armani Luminous silk...
Jane Iredale does seem to be discontinuing the Liquid Minerals product because they have it discounted on the site now. That is one of my favorite foundations and so I am not very happy about that.
Often times a discount does mean it's being discontinued - but sometimes it's about clearing stock for end of year. I hope you got a stash just in case, though.
Dior Forever glow, I liked but didn’t love, Nars was great, what do you think of Clarins Youth Dew? Also a good cream foundation ? I used to use Joe Blasco 10 yes ago
Great review. I enjoy your perspectives very much on foundation. Have you tried Salt NY Sneaky Balm? The Salt NY founder and creator, Kiki G, created a super 45-minute video on RU-vid on about what drove her to create her own foundation. I think she did a great job explaining why companies persist in making strange foundation colors that don’t actually suit anyone. And the Sneaky Balm is the only foundation product I think I will ever use-it just doesn’t get any better. Salt NY may be worth looking at as a great company to try and review on your channel-I think you will like.
I looked at their website, but the colors looked strange to me. Then I did a little google search and saw someone say she uses olive undertones a lot. It's just too hard for me to choose a shade with the images provided.
How do you find it? Thinking of getting it but I am on the fence. I had Tria but not only it stopped properly charging after few months but it was also a pain in a butt to use.
Unfortunately, the Jones Road foundation, along with Bobbi Brown foundations, gave me hard small pimples which to this day, months later, have not completely disappeared. There is something in these foundations which don't agree with my skin.
I've found the Nars foundation shades generally hard across the board. I've never had a match, but then specifically and only in the Light Reflecting line, Fiji is a near dead on match. A bit too yellow, but quite close. Again, I have no match in any other line, even with the same shade. The foundation is the most gorgeous face product I've ever worn when I put it on, but over time it settles into every pore, fine line, and flake I didn't know I had like nothing else I've ever tried. So disappointing!
@@TheHoodedLid Ah no worries--I do hope for your sake they bring out more shades! The two most recent foundations have done so well, maybe they'll reconsider.
