Best Of Gaming For A Non-Gamer 

Hello! So I had originally hoped to put this out closer to the 1 year anniversary of Gaming For A Non-Gamer, but due to some timing stuff I obviously didn't lol. I know this is completely different from a typical Razbuten video, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. A more typical video essay will be out before the end of the year, and, like, ya know...I appreciate ya and all that good stuff. Peace.

The sheer joy she got after understanding Portal. That's great stuff

I’m still in awe that she stayed with you after dark souls. Truly a keeper

I was SHOCKED when she asked "what are the hearts". My 30+ years of absorbing "video game shit" really has blinded me to the idea that there are people who just don't have that knowledge haha

It's actually very interesting to see her struggle. Understanding what seems to us like logical or simple as some learning curve we've mastered so long ago we don't even notice it can be a challenge to some of us. - Coordination of control to the camera, movement and action - Understanding what/where/how to do things all at once. - Figuring out the failures/mistakes and learn from them after 1-2 try - Focus > Stress in critical moments - Puzzles - Figuring out the point of the game (Portals and Minecraft) - Lastly, identifying the playable character's sex

"Will Tom Nook ever stop?" Many have asked this question. Few have received a satisfactory answer.

She asked a question that was basically, "is there fall damage?" and then walked off a really high place. She curses like a sailor. She hears Razbuten ask her not to do certain things, (fast travel, step on his flowers) and basically takes it as a challenge. She nearly breaks a controller in frustration. Maybe she just doesn't know it yet, but she's already one of us gamers. _One of us! One of us!_

When she realizes what the portals actually do it sounds like she’s in an intervention and releasing all of her feelings.

In Portal she was LITERALLY chasing her own tail.

It was so precious when she finally started "thinking with portals".

The simultaneous act of moving your character and moving your camera at the same time is such a fluid action for me, that watching someone do those acts independently of each other is hilarious XD

there's definitely a sadistic part of me that laughs at the struggle, but I think there's a much bigger part of me that empathizes so hard with the victories and that's why I love this so much

I need a friend who says "Girl, go get it" with as much passion that she does for fictional characters.

I love how she casually just makes advanced moves in Celeste without being taught but misses the simplest grab... people without a set idea of how to play a game always have the most creative solutions :)

The Lady You Live With is so wholesome. Love hearing the proud noises when she gets past something she struggled with. I'd love to have an update on her gaming experience now. Whether she's a full fledged gamer or still struggles with the language of games

I don't know if she'd be comfortable with this, but I'd love to see horror for a non-gamer if she is okay with it.

14:20 I feel like out of everything in this video, this clip resonates with me the most. I once tried to show my mom Celeste because I thought the way it taught players was amazing, and because I thought the assist mode would be a useful fallback to help her get into the swing of things. Of course, all of that fell apart the moment I realized that she didn’t seem to grasp the act of jumping and moving at the same time, something I hadn’t even considered. Seeing her struggle with the controller as a barrier between her and the game, rather than an extension of it, was really enlightening. I recognized your wife as having the same problem immediately in this clip. And it’s really telling that when she finally did it, she didn’t even register that she’d done something like that. Or maybe more accurately, that something like that had *happened,* because I suspect that there’s a mental disconnect between herself and the characters that she plays, something alien to us who are used to being “in” the characters we play. So many seemingly obvious events in a game can go over a beginner’s head.

I can feel she loved you very much especially when she fast travelled in front of your eyes lol

I’m happy she at least enjoyed and came back to Animal Crossing once the experiment was done. We got a new gamer on our hands!

Not gonna lie the whole: "I'm gonna have to divorce you if you fast travel." That in my mind was hilarious.

I decided to rewatch thus whole playlist, and one thing that's really nice about this video is hearing your wife celebrate her successes. Hearing a lot more of her input in this video is real nice. It might be interesting to hear her more of her thoughts on these experiences, like in the AC/casual video, in future videos of these experiments.

I wanted to do this with my husband, who is not a gamer at all (roles are kinda changed up here 😂) but after playing like maybe 30 minutes he asked me “And what’s fun about gaming?” He prefers just watching a movie, while I hate movies, I want to do “something” and a game brings so much more joy for me 😂

Im really glad you posted this video actually, because she often sounds like she is really hating her time in the games in the other videos. But in these you can hear the excitement in some of the games like Shovel Knight that I think every gamer recognises. It was really fun to watch these.

At this point, I think the lady you live with has played a more diverse selection of games than I have. Am I a Non Gamer?

Every single one of the videos in this series makes me shed a tear. It's so wholesome that you and your wife play video games together and she actually enjoys quite a few of them. I'm more than happy for you, and all the attention you may have gotten out of it was well deserved! I hope me and my girlfriend will ever play video games like this. I think the most impressive thing here is her dedication. Whenever I try to get my dad to play games he usually gives up after a minute of not understanding the controls Edit: even with me trying to help him

just binged this series and not only did this have some rather heart-warming moments it really was something else to see what we, as gamers, can take for granted as knowledge we assume just automatically clicks for everyone. Thank you for this.

The gaming for a non-gamer videos were so successful because seeing how she reacts sparks nostalgia in all of us from when we started playing said games.

The fact her camara was looking to the sky the hole time whilst playing Zelda made me connect mentally to this person I’ve never met before.

I love these sorta deleted scenes! Partners playing things together is always so nice to watch. It doesn't matter if either both people are experiencing smth for the first time or one person is getting to share a game they love, it's just so nice. Just watching the highlights of you guys laughing together and watching the Lady You Live With have a real first experience with games a lot of people love and have played to death and back is way more entertaining than any structured LP. I'm sure there was plenty of work to be done in editing it down, but I'm glad this video is here.

As a fellow wife of a lifelong gamer, this is extremely relatable. What's most difficult for me in games is camera control, walking in a straight line on narrow ledges, and remembering button combinations, so I don't play those kinds of games (FPS, open world RPG, all triple A title games, etc). The closest I got to trying was giving BOTW a shot. When I made it to the bridge part (as seen in this video), I couldn't get it to work, had my husband do it for me, and then shortly gave up on the game bc there were too many of those power thingies to remember. Over time, I've grown to appreciate video games and we've found a handful that we both can play together. I appreciate this series for shining a lot on us kinda-gamers and the patience you both shown in all these games. I also commend the great editing for all these hours of gaming! I’ve honestly loved this series so much. It’s encouraged me to branch out and play games I might not have played before. It’s one of the things that made me make the switch from err the switch to the Xbox (which has also been incredible because the Xbox has WAY more accessible games and just accessible options in general which as a disabled gamer has blown my mind a bit). I really enjoy this series so much and I think it’s success speaks to how important it is that the gaming world consider how many potential players they lose out on just by not considering how a game might be for a new gamer (or in my case for a disabled gamer, where I find a lot of crossover with the experience of new gamers because I need things to feel welcoming as I get to grips).

I would love to see her attempt to beat a game. I think it would be interesting to see if she spent a lot of time with a single game if by the end she would feel some sort of attachment to it or if she will just feel relief that it’s over.

When she called out Naught dog's games for feeling like a movie, I felt that. And I liked it.

"Can I fall off this and die?" To be honest, I've been playing games for probably over 25 years, and that's still something I test out in every game I play.

The thing that stands out to me about non-gamers doing any unfamiliar thing is how rarely they actually try to figure out how it works. Like they don't attempt to actually keep track of what buttons or processes they do, and what they accomplish. So often they just learn one thing they can do and then just cease attempting to press other buttons. Like the start of Celeste it seemed she took a long time to realize there was a jump button in addition to the dash button.

The lady you live with is _incredibly_ patient. Mine would have 100% left me and never looked back at lines like "And what did you learn?" Also, that damn Sonic "hurry tf up!" track is the reason I have a fear of drowning. "Let's pitch a tent!" would have also earned a response that would've gotten me an eye roll. Also, your editing is great. The Home Alone, "Hello!" made me laugh loud enough that the lady I live with had to come check on me. "I think you're getting better," = "Please give me more content. This is GOLD."
