If I’m not mistaken the guy at about 1:40 next to Ken McGee is Lorenzo Trujillo, and it is highly likely that he will be filling in the split lead spot in the US Army Blues after Mr. McGee retires. I heard it from someone else so if I’m wrong it’s not my fault lol. He’s currently in the US Army Concert Band and usually fills in for he Blues when someone can’t make it.

Herb Alpert sold more records than All of them combined will ever sell. 72 million records. Moral of the story. 6.9 K views are trumpet players. 72 million music listeners seek out melody and sonorous sounds. Trumpet players seek out other trumpet players. Range, technique when used in service of the music gives excitement. Done all night, it produces empty chairs. I was at the Brass Conference in New York City in the 80's. All the best trumpet players in the world would perform year after year. Even Maynard showed up and all the great lead players and jazz players. You name it. There was one guy, who I forgot his name, was a Maynard imitator. Triple C's, D's, E's, all night. After awhile, done over and over again, it blows people out. Maynard never did that. Go ahead, play these video's for a non-trumpet player and see how long it takes them to tell you to shut it off. not long. Play Miles, Herb Alpert, Chet Baker and see what happens. Miles Kind of Blue, the number one selling jazz album, (not necessarily trumpet album). Humans want space. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying screaming doesn't have a place and isn't impressive. But when it's put as a higher priority over melodic invention, what you get are clones that nobody could tell the difference in a blind listening test.
