I can’t get enough of how much Nigel loves....well, everything. His wife, his kids, his job, animals. He’s so curious and enthusiastic and even now, years after the show has ended, I still love him to death.
For a guy who played nothing but cackling villains throughout his career, Tim Curry did a seamless job playing an eccentric scientist and caring father.
wouldn't be the first time he played an eccentric scientist - didn't you hear he'd been making a man....with blonde hair and a tan....who's good for relieving his...tension?
"Oh, come on bucko. Don't you want a balloon?!" Also a great performance. Unfortunately, not many seem to have respect for that film and his performance in IT.
Tale of the Crimson Flower says Hi. Although it does involve Tim asking the stranded captain he took pity on to send him one of his daughters in exchange for stealing his magic flower, that's mainly because it's a Beauty and the Beast story. Admittedly, it DOES contain old & outdated plot elements that were well-altered by the Disney version, but that doesn't change the fact that from then on Tim Curry is nothing but sweet and welcoming towards his love interest, while also coming off as believably lonely and sympathetic. And funny enough, it was released in 1998, the same year he started voicing Nigel, so that certainly says something. 😊
I remember when there was a meme featuring Nigel. People took Disney princesses and photoshopped Nigel's face over them. You ain't seen true beauty until you've seen a Thornberry princess.
I just love that moment of Nigel and the "moving" rock. Any other character would've made a sarcastic joke to Marianne, but Nigel is so childlike in heart when it comes to nature that he actually believes in the possibility of a rock moving on its own lol.
@@GameAlicornLuna To add on to what Luna said, creatures form defenses to fend off against predators, so an animal adopting the defense of looking like a rock is a likely possibility.
@@Retarded_Pooh or alternatively an animal hiding within or under a rock, like how hermit crabs steal discarded shells and trapdoor spiders build covers for their burrows from silk and local debris.
If the show was on I'd watch it, if the opening theme was playing I'd change the channel. There were several shows that I did that with but even then Nigel was my favorite character.
People laud Tim Curry for his roles as Pennywise or Dr. Furter but very few give him due credit for absolutely owning the role of the lovable father in the form of Nigel Thornberry.
Nigel and Marianne Thornberry are relationship goals!! Like Marianne could’ve been always tired of Nigel’s silliness, but she takes it in stride and they compliment each other.
2:16 I felt a lot of empathy for Debbie, it must be hard to be the outcast of the family, her parents and sisters love their lives and animals so much and she just want to go out with friends and listen to music.
Yeah that would be a cool look at the character, but several episodes shows she loves animals quite a bit too, but just acts aloof and upset. Basically, she acts like a teenager lol
While most people fancy Brad Pitt for a husband I’ve always dreamed of someone like Nigel Thornberry! Although he’s fictional, he is the perfect combination of kindness, pure heart, adorably nerdy, intelligent, amazing father, fiercely loyal and loving husband with a witty sense of humour!
I think it was said on the show that they got grants for their research and money from the network for the show. Also, it appears that Nigel's parents are very well to do and seem to come from old money. With the RV, they aren't paying a ton in hotels, they buy a lot of local food and they could save on plane tickets. The most expensive part would be moving their large vehicle between continents, but that isn't exactly impossible or outside the realm of affordability considering they have their routes and destinations planned out.
@@rosesweetcharlotte It was mentioned a few times in the series that a foundation underwrites their show. Even in the third Rugrats movie, it is suggested that the foundation regularly sweats them for footage.
My favorite bit with Nigel isn't even funny. IN the episode with the old dying elephant, he arrives on scene just after Rebecca dies. Just the way he comforts Eliza is so sweet, gentle and kind. Best cartoon dad ever.
Occasionally, whilst going about my daily life, I will do Nigel Thornberry’s voice. It’s a gift I’ve been blessed with and I’m not about to waste it by keeping it to myself. Nothing is more fun and doing Nigel’s voice whilst at the bank 👍
My son loved this show just bought the series from Walmart and he took it love to the great grandkids for them to watch and he plans to watch it with them
Tim Curry as Nigel Thornberry along with Flea as Donnie are both my absolute favorite characters of The Wild Thornberrys and I always had a soft spot for The Wild Thornberrys. The Wild Thornberrys is a very underappreciated and great Nickelodeon show, Klasky Csupo of Rocket Power and As Told By Ginger did a brilliant job with The Wild Thornberrys, and Nigel Thornberry spawned so many great memes.
