The PPG Wave Synthesizer from the year 1982 is one of the most fascinatic synths ever. Used by Trevor Horn, Rush, Ultravox, Gary Numan Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, Propaganda, Tears For Fears, Robert Palmer and many others. Here can you find the full PPG wave playlist with a lot single sound demos, wavetable demos, PPG Waveterm demos and one synth demo tracks. Enjoy. I remember my first time with it. It was Big. It was Blue. It could sound warm and dreamy. It could sound like a clangy disaster. It was a BRILLIANT synth.
Fantastic synth, well ahead of its time and a great bit of Germany engineering too. Also this was a sampling synth too and before Emulator. I love the way you show close ups of your synths, one thing I really love about your channel, You involve your audience into the experience. Great sounds this synth makes and so advanced for 1982 and still holds its own today in my eyes. As always love your channel and love seeing new videos. Have a good day and hopefully see more great work from you. Thanks for your time you put into doing this and sharing with us.
Thank you Michael for your feedback and your kind words. The PPG was ahead of it's time yes. The sound is so different. But 1983 came the DX7 and all wanted the new metallic sounds for less money. That's life. Have a great week too. 🙌
@retrosound72 yes I would also say that Edgar Froese's album Stuntman was the proverbial PPG demo album. The track It Would Be Like Samoa is PPG excellence!❤
Never enough PPG on youtube, never. It's just too good a synth 🙂 And although there is an official Wave 2.3 VST available, I'm still missing a proper version of the waveterm. I wonder if Waldorf will ever come up with one, then I could afford my old dream synth combination, the kind I would have bought in the 80s if I ever had the money.
Yeh i guess Geddy Lee used this a fair bit between 84 and the late 90s. probably sampled it and played from a yamaha kx master kbd and depeche mode i can certainly hear plenty of those sounds there in there stuff. nice video !
This is excellent. As a 3rd Wave owner I really watch a lot of the PPG 2.x material that gets released. This compilation of your work is especially great. I didn't know TFF used one and I haven't ever picked up on it in their music of which I've owned since new vinyl in the 80's. I'll keep an open ear. There is a sound you make at 10:23 and 10:33 (same stab). Do you recall the wavetable this was?
Too often, IMHO, when listing artists having used the PPG Wave, people neglect to mention Marillion / Mark Kelly (Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood) and Chris De Burgh / Rupert Hine (The Getaway). These are some of the best selling albums of the 80s.
Delay . Vielen Dank für's reinhören.
Sadly he never used one, at least not that I know of. TD would come in mind instead 😉 But of course this is only a testament for the PPG, even while it is icy-crystal-digital sound in perfection, the blue guy can sound warm, too 🙂
