to be fair, it was sort of not, from what I understood, it was like a d&d style thing, where Simon and Lewis never knew what was about to happen next. Obviously the rest of the yogscast did, and led them through it
I remember being so young when i watched this that I genuinely thought that the story was PART of Minecraft, like it was something id experience if i bought it
Remember coming back after Primary school and skittering up the stairs to the only laptop in the house to watch this stuff, thank you for blessing me, don't have any time now to watch it in its entirety again.
Ahaha I was not in primary school at the time of that comment, I was 17 lol. Completely forgot about this comment, this came up in my recommended again@@suzannekratosmaker7484
God this series was way more effort than I ever realized. Write the story, build the maps, play the map, make the animations, and edit the video. This was probably all before world editing too.
I wish more people did elaborate gameplay series while disguising them as a normal playthrough. I've only seen this done with minecraft so far, and everything out there is an old series. It was truly, a golden era.
Honestly, what's happening with the Dream SMP reminds me of Israphel, and I'm really glad the newer generation has something like this to grow up with now, these were some of the best online experiences imo.
Old comment I'm responding to but Zisteau Plays Minecraft I view as the spiritual successor to this kind of mixture of playthrough and plot, albeit condensed to only a single character. SeedlingsShow was also quite like SoI, only from the perspective of the NPCs rather than the Players. Quite cool idea too, sad it was also just abandoned after the end of season 2.
half life vr ai is a vr playthrough of half life with improv comedians playing npc characters in garry's mod torturing the main character as he "plays through the game" and eventually evolves into a story that thrives in breaking the 4th wall and battling an eldritch horror (as you do in half life) I think if it wasn't directly influenced by SoI then it was influenced by something that SoI influenced, and they just don't know it. Idk what that would be though. Also Freeman's Mind. But everyone knows about Freeman's mind. If you don't know about Freeman's mind you should go binge it all right now.
There are a few RU-vidrs who did stuff like this, like Criken and BedBananas and their group years ago. Criken no longer does anything worth watching, but BedBananas still does a lot of really unique stuff.
Daskalos has some of this semi-sctipted energy in his studies of the End and the ancient cities. He's a professional archeologist and brings that experience to Minecraft and it's wonderful c
you baited me so hard I thought this was a new episode from the thumbnail lmao edited: man I forgot how golden the old days of yogscast were, literally my childhood
I was so saddened when they stopped doing it, but at the same time, those final episodes were being more and more "high-budget" which I wasn't really enjoying due to the show's grass roots origins.
This is such a memory trip. From the early days when it seemed like just a minecraft LP and there just seemed to be someone messing with them on the server, to seeing it develop into a full on narrative adventure.
Those first couple seconds are nostalgic as hell, they were the first experience I had with Minecraft in any way, shape, or form. They particularly stick out in my memories and will likely never be forgotten
I was an adult when I came across this series (got me into Minecraft), and I was confused about whether or not that stuff pre-existed. It made me want to play it even more and forced me to learn how to load games onto my pc.
03germas I mean they should have just made a new series like make another portal of the last part they were gonna show and there you go fixed new series
I mean, they'd effectiy have to rebuild the entire world... there are people who have intelectual copyright to SoI that are no longer part of YogS @@soulstealerking3336
i originally watched this back when a barely new what Minecraft was and i was watching it to find out what it was all about and i thought this was the game for a long time with all the npcs ...i was later disappointed
@@thefiresworddragon927 That was awfully aggressive for someone leaving a comment about a nice childhood experience. Stop trying to seem smart and deep on the internet, you're just an asshole.
The Firesword Dragon You seem so pretentious and so far up your ass I wonder if you can even see anything? The worst kinds of people on this earth are the ones who are really, really, really dumb but thinks they’re really, really, really smart. If you need help figuring it out, I’m talking about you.
I watched this during some of the hardest times as a kid, i cant begin to explain the comfort this series gave me. Theres no words. Their interplay of jokes, and also me not knowing this was scripted, just added to this overall wonder and mystery and excitement i dont know how to explain. It was real, their rough and they laugh at their mistakes, with them everything is ok. It was a safe zone for me after the troubles of my childhood. They’re having so much fun too. I miss being that influenceable, they inspired creativity and playfulness and charisma and mystery and a bunch of stuff i cant begin to explain. I find it hard to believe looking back. Im 22 now, years fly by, I’m stressed out and the only thing my mind turnt to is this rn. The familiarity and the comfort, its always here. Its got my back. I don’t do this often, but I rewatch the series once a year or two cause i get to rediscover it and re experience this feeling they gave me all again. It makes me want to create still to this day. To provide something to the world like how the world gave me. Thanks to these guys to making my childhood a lil brighter. They have my best wishes. You guys do too. Stuff like this will remain with me till i die. It’s absolutely Amazing isnt it?
The way this series began as another playthrough series of Minecraft, which were so popular at the time, and subtly grew into a large adventure with a cast of characters and a story does really show why the Yogscast became so popular for Minecraft.
Listening to these videos make me wanna cry man.... The grainy mics they used.... The old Minecraft version.... Playing black ops on the Xbox or my own Minecraft world while this was on in the backround....being in the bus to school on a snowy day and watching this... So many good memories came with this amazing series dude
I like how "classic" this series is. The airship is so tiny, and is just plain wood. The tunnel to their old cave is so plain, just a 2 by 2 tunnel. Mistral city has no supports on the walkways... So classic Minecraft.
I think this really shows why Minecraft is such a good game. At this time Minecraft was very bare bones; no main objective, no real combat or survival mechanics, limited building blocks etc. Despite this however they took the framework of this game and created a huge adventure with a big overarching story and several locations. Just using such a simple game as a medium to express so much creativity. You can really take Minecraft and get whatever you want from it and THATS why this game is truly a masterpiece.
I remember watching this, I came in I think after the first 2 or 3 episodes were out. But I was along for the Yogscast ride since the beginning, been subbed for well over a decade. What a ride. I was one of the people in the comments pointing out the airship on the survival island too.
It is by far the GREATEST Minecraft series ever made, and they did it without any mods. It is such a shame they never finished it. What always confused me (and everyone) was that there was never an official response on why it got cancelled. Lewis mentioned it briefly on stream once, talking about all the cool ideas for the final battle against Israphel and his army, but not much else. I remember Hannah saying the map was corrupted and unrecoverable, but I failed to see how that was true as I found many links several years later to download the map and convert it so it would work on the Xbox 360. If I could do that, I am sure the Yogscast could figure it out or at least rebuild the world. It didn't need to be perfect; we just wanted an official ending. They could easily have written reasons why the world looked different, such as Israphel getting his hands on a red matter explosive (if you know, you know). I understand it would take a lot of work, but it would take much less work than their other series' such as Voltz, Tekkit, MoonQuest, etc. My original theory that they didn't continue SOI was that the accounts with the NPC names were hacked and forever lost, but a mod would have easily remedied that problem. My theory in 2024? Lewis didn't want to continue it because Minecraft had fallen out of trend back then (2012), and views were too low to justify continuing the series. It would also explain why they stopped uploading Minecraft around that time and ventured out into playing other games. They go wherever the algorithm tells them. Not that it helped them, as the channel has been stuck on 7 million subscribers since 2015. We will likely never get an official ending to SOI, but at least we have 38 episodes to rewatch!
Oh FUCK. Was my destiny shaped from when I was a child do I have free will or was I destined to be a DnD nerd from the start. That being said now that you've pointed this out I am actually going to convert this to a campaign for my friends and not tell them that's its SoI.
I remember watching this when I was like 8. Best moments of my childhood. It was so enjoyable to me as a kid. No clue it was scripted or modded or anything. To me it was just an interesting Minecraft series that got me into playing Minecraft after a while.
My favorite memory will be the first time I stood up past my bedtime in second grade watching the episodes 6-12 I think before getting to tired and falling asleep. Good times.
These guys were one of the first youtubers I have everwtched, like this was before I was interested in youtube or minecraft at all. Because of these guys I love Minecraft and RU-vid
0:34 Simon: Those are very very bad, they follow you and explode- (Lewis walk closer to the explosive creeper) Simon: -don’t go towards it! That remind me about Lewis running straight toward a Super Discombobulator and maybe some explosive barrels in their recent TTT video.
I remember being in 3rd grade and searched up minecraft on youtube on an IPod. Their survival series was only a few episodes in and I clearly remember being so scared of the thumbnail I refused to watch it for awhile. So happy I got over it Lmao
Damn, I was still a wee lad in primary school getting excited to watch each episode when this came out, Simpiler times. Thanks for making this, I am feeling alot of nostalgia from this and things this makes me think off.
I got into the yogscast pretty much right after this had ended, but when they started doing the jaffa factory instead. it was really good times. But i did check back on this and this was pretty damn amazing for what it was. WHile i wish it came back so we could get an official ending, what came after it is equally as good if not better with tons of laughs and hilarity. shame they stopped doing MC stuff in general. it really made my day to see a new series or a new episode.
