Can't believe how far I've come in the last 12 years! That original video changed my life! Thanks so much for your support! ❤️ Original video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6fizH6zVFCY.html
The magic of Game Genie is never more amazing than when used with the original Super Mario Bros. I'd love to see a reevaluation of codes like this every year.
#3 gives me an idea. You should make a video focusing on finding codes for SMB2 Japan / The Lost Levels. Especially anything that messes with the new features or levels. You can also check if any of the SMB1 codes work.
My all time favorite has to be SUEISA which i came up with when i was a kid. I remember spending hours just trying to make codes back then. SUEISA makes all enemies except hammers i think act as if it was a mushroom/fire flower. I believe TUEISA also creates random levels if i remember correctly.
@@itsgruz I think I came up with it at the time by tweaking a different code that I likely got from either the game Genie user manual or Nintendo power. Glad you made another codes video!
I accidentally made a tweak of this code suiese it’s just a level corruptor but still I think it’s nice it isn’t to corrupted haven’t played with it enough tho
Until watching your channel I never knew game genie could make games random and more difficult. Had I known the game genie did more than make games easier, I would have gotten one in my youth and had tons of fun. The top two are indeed quite awesome, and from this selection I would still rank vgpnya at #3. Really cool vid, thanks for the uploads 👍
My low-key favorite is *napkin*. I've mentioned it before, I think, but it's a minor extra challenge where sometimes the screen will flash and spawn a group of koopas.. like they're getting beamed in to stop you. Might be fun with a _ _ A G E P/O family code, to add more hammer wielders?
When i was 8 or 9 y.o. games i was really engulf in like blaster master would freeze at like 3:00a when no ones been up for hours. My eyes would be glued to the screen and suddenly it was like a jumpscare. Id absolutely SCRAMBLE to turn it off. I was literally scared objective reality would break down around me or that the universe would glitch too.
Ah yes, SMB, the hidden gem of retro gaming. Only the most plugged in, hippest, avant garde gamers know how to appreciate this underrated masterpiece. You should pat yourself on the back for even hearing about this game let alone rating it properly, unlike the unwashed masses. Seriously, these “most underrated” comments make my brain hurt with how badly people need to feel like they’re saying something profound. They’re so overdone, and almost always complete misstatements. SMB is one of the *least* underrated games in all of video games, it has more acclaim than most games can hope for. Just say you love the game, nobody needs the fake superlatives.
Hey Gruz! Currently in the works for doing codes for the Famicom version of SMB and I've noticed that not one of the NES codes work as they do with Game Genie on NES as you would think they may on the Famicom version of SMB. I had to rethink the codes of SMB...and i have come across a few. OXYGEN is a Running Air Jump, like Luigi from SMB2. TOPGUN makes for some enemies that don't die. TTTTTT/TOATIP screws with graphics. LYYOTT gives you a twitchy glitchy Mario. OOIGUN changes Mario to a zombie. One of my Favs SEZOTT teleports Mario when you use the fire spit power which works best with the code that gives him Spit Power no matter your size, (SIZOTT) And last but not least, SSISSE will slow and change the music a bit. Btw good work on the new video man!
didnt expect to see this in my recommended, a real blast from the past this is, felt like i was a little poopy baby when i saw the original game genie vid
I remember using a code when I was a kid that made Mario's jumps completely random, like jump once and it's a tiny hop, the next Mario leaves the screen for 30 seconds. Insanity ensued lol
One I came up with as a kid I'll never forget is ZAPPEG. I remember it makes the levels all weird but so interesting at the same time. Worth trying out if ya got the time.
0:21 "It's been a long time" Me, a Sick Puppies fan: _coming, and the tables turned around, cause one of us is going, one of us is going down! I'm not running! It's a little different now, cause one of us is going, ONE OF US IS GOING DOWN! This is hardly worth fighting for, but it's the little petty sh*t that I can't ignore when my fist hits your face and your face hits the floor! It'll be a long time coming, but you got the message now, cause I was never going, yeah YOU'RE THE ONE THAT'S GOING DOWN!_
This was so much fun as a kid. We had always hear rumors of worlds 9 & 10, as well as Minus Worlds 2 & 3. Messed around with the Game Genie trying to find them for hours.
Try these Game Genie codes. They're not for Mario, and you need a second Game Genie. Entering NNLYAY and moving your cursor right will bring you to the next set below. It'll even let you access copies of the letters that fill up the rest of the 256 slots. They have their own sprites, so they load at a different rate. The only ones you can't highlight/select is on the top-right when you loop the screen once or thrice. NNLNYY is the game thing, but going left moves you to the next set up. To save time on loading them, you can remove all the sprites (not counting your cursor) with NVSYLA. The catch is you have to remember when you are when the game eventually erases your cursor sprites. It will also make the top-right input on the second loop unable to highlight either.
The original game genie code book called the infinite jump one "Skywalker" and paired with the always have a hammer suit code in Mario 3 was the best two codes period. It's definitely obvious that your definition of "best codes" greatly differs from mine lol
YEAAAA was my favourite code. when i first tried it i played it many times and didnt get bored, because the level generation was so screwed up and hilarious. today i still find the code really interesting and fun to play with
@@MetalJuggalo The only difference is that I made that code back in 1991. It’s why I’m referring it. I was the first. In fact, he probably heard it from me. 👍🏻
The age old best Game Genie code YEAAAA... I can't stand it physically, because this makes me seizure (literally, I'm photosensitive, suffering from simple partial epilepsy), but the insanity itself, man, just thumbs up!
I recall one code I saw used when I was a kid. I don't remember what it was, but it came from a code booklet or some other widely available source (this was in the days of dial-up internet, so this information would have been harder to come by than nowadays), so this one isn't particularly obscure. It produces the relatively minor effect of turning Mario into a statue, which changes the character sprite completely, giving Mario a typical stony-gray color, and it also renders you incapable of performing any action whatsoever. Fortunately you are also totally invulnerable as well, so it at least it's got that going for you...
Killgruz! I found a code combination that makes the game... Like harder. NUTIES + LOLING make every block have no collision at the botton of their sprite!
5:03 I tried this on Delta and it did the opposite - All enimies are immune to the fireballs! 6:32 Also I tried this on Delta too but the game crashed when the first enimie came on screen
I've recently been looking for codes and found some like NAPUSS which makes all the question blocks stop working! They instead act kinda like breakable blocks (but they don't disappear).
There is a Game Genie code for SMB3 that is a lot like AOAUIG (number 8 on the list) in the Game Genie code book for SMB3 they call it the Skywalker code (no relation to Star Wars)
Nintendo 64 Slogan History! 1991:Change the System(USA) 1996,1997:Someone Special Is 64(UK) 1998:Get into it(UK) 2002:The New Dimension Of Fun(Germany)
I use to spend hours witing gamegenie codes. Wish i still had my list. Of the 2 i can just remember was GIZLEY and KIPLEY. I also had one for a no floor and random blocks in levels.
If you enter GKLAAO + SNLAPO + XULAZP, pressing start will send you to the next level, and ATIIOY allows you to walk through any wall from the left AND right unlike GIIIVY and XTZLLV makes fireballs shoot really fast, ATLIOP makes you completely invincible except for time and pits challenge codes: UGAGOO + IZAGEP all enemies fly back and forth like green paratroopas and TIISKN - sends you straight through the wall if you touch it from the left side, could be a good challenge code
The best YEAAAA alternative is AEAAAE. It modifies the same address in memory, and it is more trippy and badass than YEAAAA.. It is also more stable. Please do a video on this code, or at least try it out. I discovered it myself.
I put this in an oldish code solicitation thread but I’m being annoying and double-posting in case you’re not monitoring it. For SMB1, TOGEPA produces fun corruption, sort of a blend of PEAAAA and ZZALIT. I had expected it to do palette changes, since it’s one letter away from TOGEPI. It’s good on its own, but in combination with TOKEUP yields a more-stable approximation of YEAAAA. Tested on an original just-SMB cartridge on a knockoff console.
PVAKEE is a visual corruptor that seems to corrupt based on screen scrolling. If you hit a powerup box or attempt to display the flagpole, the game crashes.
@gruz since we're on the topic of game genie codes, is there a code that can allow player 1 to play as the player 2 alternate costume for Dixie and Diddy in DKC2? Thank you
ZEANLY is a favorite of mine, it corrupts the music as bad as YEAAAA corrupts the graphics. When both are paired with VGPNYA, the game is about as messed up as it can possibly be while still technically being playable.
Bowser in worlds 1-5 just breathe fire, in worlds 6 & 7 he just throws hammers (no fire breath). Only in world 8 does he breathe fire AND throw hammers.
