I know this comment is old, but I agree. I was in middle school when that song came out, and I was the same age when Rihanna's music came out. I preferred T's music over Rihanna's and honestly... I still do. I was never a huge fan of Rihanna and I don't actively listen to her today. I personally liked T's music over any Pon De Replay or any of her new stuff. Jay was definitely cleaning up a mess when they dropped her. She deserved a chance to release another album.

I relate to Nikki on that one because I lost a childhood friend under the same circumstances in 2018. We had a bit of the same heart to heart pertaining to his heavy drinking a few months before he died and as I came back home for my Christmas break from college, he passed from acute alcohol poisoning at 28. It's still heartbreaking to mention him because I had an omen about how he would not make it to 40 if he continues drinking. I was right and to this day, it really annoys me. It tears me the fuck apart.
