Thank Andy Dick. Hartman's wife was an addict who had been clean for years before she did coke with Dick at a party. She spiraled, went crazy, and eventually killed him. The only punishment Dick ever suffered was Jon Lovitz slamming his head into a bar after Dick approached him saying he was putting the "Phil Hartman hex" on him. God damn Andy Dick is a piece of shit.
Or the hawk flying off with the sheep. In fact, that entire film short is a classic. "My friend says it's wrong to eat meat. Is he crazy?" "No, he's just ignorant. You see, your crazy friend never heard of the food chain."
@@yingle6027 The writers went their separate ways, there's only so many stories you can tell even in animated form. The replacement writers simply didn't have the talent, frankly they were (and are inadequate) and the quality of the show suffered dramatically as a result. Conan O'Brian was one of the key writers for many years and I think he is overdue a lot of kudos for his contribution. Think of early Simpsons episodes, the jokes were often beautifully layered - a straightforward gag normally offered 2-4 "levels" of laughter. The later and current Simpsons episodes offer shallow, predictable, superficial humour.
@@Grandmastergav86 Yeah I get a sense that either Conan heavily influenced the Simpsons or The Simpsons influenced Conans comedy. The two are so similar -clever, innocent and funny.
@Spike16 It was probably in the original version, but shows are cut a little shorter for syndication. It's too bad because the scenes they cut tend to be very short and they often remove great comedy just because it's easy and doesn't affect the main story line.
Is there anyone else who remembers first seeing at 4:58 the ape and the shark? I came to this video just HOPING it'd be in there. I must've been maybe 8 or so when I first saw it and laughed my ass off. Now I am almost 35 and it has NOT lost its novelty.
Yeah I guess it's funny. It happens so often I've become accustomed to seeing sharks lurching out of jungle streams eating gorillas, just as they reaching for some bananas. I see the banana hanging over the jungle stream and I figure "here we go again". It's the circle of life!
That scene is fixed in my memory. Along with the one where the baboons have to eat Ned Flanderer's skin or it will be bad for their society and the scene where Homer dresses in a panda suit and ends up "stinking of panda love"
I watched planet of the apes last week for the first time and the whole time I was thinking that the Simpsons got it right turning it into a musical. I would legitimately watch the musical
I gotta say, Phil Hartman was the glue that held this show together, JUST like on SNL. Even in shitty Season 10 he still had a stand out scene in a bad episode. He was definitely the last shred of diamond this show had and unfortunate circumstances made everything miserable for everyone.
That's one of the things that makes this show magical. There are so many little details in every episode. The jokes just don't get old, and you notice new details and even further nuance to some of the jokes every time you rewatch an episode.
"Troy McLure? I thought he disappeared after the scandal at the aquarium.." "Hey, I thought you said Troy McLure was dead." "No, what I said was he sleeps with the fishes." Why is this such an amazing joke?
@Rj Peterson First of all it’s ^*RJ, not Rj (how do you not get your own name correct?), secondly it’s ^*McClure, not McLure and thirdly do you just not get simple comedy or what?🙄🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤡🤷♂️
Because he was having sex with fish,“sleeping with“ is a euphemism for having sex. So to say he was sleeping with the fishes, is another way of saying he was having sex with fish. Not to mention, the tie in with the movie the Godfather.
“C’mon Jimmy…let’s go to the killing floor! (Jimmy gasps) Don’t let the name fool you. It’s not really a floor!” How I ever missed that joke, I don’t know.
I’ll never forget when I heard about Phil’s passing. I was in the reading period before math class in 12th grade. My teacher Mrs. Schlesinger would listen to the radio quietly as we read. I heard her weeping and saying “oh no…oh no…”. I got up, the only student, and asked what happened. She told me about both Phil and his wife. I let out the loudest howl and started sobbing, and we held each other and cried audibly. When the other students asked what had happened, none of them had heard of Phil. The I said, “freaking Troy McClure!” , and everyone got it. I still send their children love when I think of their parents ❤
Had Phil Hartman not died, I wonder what other characters he would have done throughout his career. He would have been Zapp Brannagan for sure, but beyond that voice, I'm also sure he would have ended up on other shows like Family Guy, Archer and Bob's Burgers, to name a few. I believe he was also supposed to be Dr. Hartman on Family Guy and that's why he's named Dr. Hartman. Imagine that, he would have been a permanent voice actor on Family Guy! Man, so many voices we just never got to hear. I have to say though, his absence created a tremendous vacuum that needed to be filled and we evetually ended up getting some great voice talents. Guys like Billy West, John Dimaggio and H. Jon Benjamin all stepped up after he died and they all did great. After he died, Billy West was recast into the Zapp Brannagan role. West admitted that he tweaked his performance in order to sound as much as Hartman as he could. And, in a way to honor Hartman, the lead character on Futurama, Phillip J. Fry, was renamed Phillip after Phil Hartman. Tremendous talent, gone right at the height of his career!
There was never a better smarmy antagonist. I think he'd have had some choice supporting character roles in the early 2000s after Jingle All the Way and Small Soldiers.
I had a dream of Troy Mclure the same night Phil Hartman was murdered. I told my best friend in the morning about my dream and learned the sad news that evening. Phil Hartman was the best.
All of the Characters Phil Hartman voiced on The Simpsons were retired after his passing to honor him. I miss you Phil Hartman, the world needs more Troy McLure.
In the DVD commentary of some of Phil's episodes, the creators talk about how Phil wanted to do a live-action Troy McClure movie, and the producers were all for it. It probably would've happened if he hadn't died.
RIP Phil Hartman aka Troy McClure man he HELLA funny to be in heaven....as an old soul person myself, his commercials are hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 my favorite is The Planet Of The Apes. "She's faking it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm dying laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 seriously though, I miss Troy.
When my siblings and I were teenagers and one of us had a date the night before, we would ask how it went, and as they sat there awkwardly, we'd say, "And they never ruined their fun by giving in to their throbbing biological urges!" Mom & Dad laughed every time. Then they would wonder...Hmmm. Really?? We still quote The Simpsons quite often. And this episode was one of our favorites! RIP Phil Hartman.
Hi Im Troy Mclure. You might remember my comments from such youtube videos as UFOs-- How adults reason with our wolrd. Or Technology--The future of human suffering.
