Sadly, Denver realistically should have won the 2013 season. Even against the best defense, they just scored so many points that no amount of elite defense could stop it. Sure our defense wasn't good, but look at the points we were putting up. Had our luck (yes it it was honestly pure luck) not run out, that game should have been a shoot out despite Denver's defense being bad, and Seattle's being good. Had luck not run out, the final would have gone down as a 35-42 for either team. Denver scored that hard that season.

Wes Welker was a big contributor to both the #1 offense and the #2 offense in this list, and never got a ring as a player.

If you want an accurate stat, use passer rating differential. The passer rating of your offence vs the passer rating of the opposing teams when they faced each other.

If they don't have a good to top level defense.

They have a really good regular season record but fail to impress in the playoffs

If they don’t have a great defense yeah. You need an offense and defense to win it all

If they don't have defense and running game

Actually this isn't good evidence by itself. You have to ask these questions. How often does the top offense win a super bowl. What is their average finish? What is the average ranking of that defense? How often does the top Defense win the super bowl? How does that compare to the top offense? What about average finish? Also, how does the combined offense defense rankings effect these outcomes? Does the combination offense defense ranking factor in? That is Team A has the top offense and dead last defense. Versus team B who is in middle in both categories? I think your conclusion is probably right, defense is probably more important, but really balance may be more important, and this video is only one small piece of evidence.

@@erikpuka2627 a better stat would be point differential, but the problem with that is, it includes a lot of garbage time points. Teams that are up by 3 score at the start of the 4th will trade 2 scores for 15 minutes of clock and still win by a TD. The best stat would be passer rating differential. You get a higher correlation to winning with that one.

Yes I must admit it was a good day to be a Seahawks fan that day. The only team in what seems like no team since the 2000 Ravens had been built around a strong defense like that. The unstoppable Force meant the immovable object and that day the immovable object won

The NFL is the only league that ignores a huge part of its history, for no good reason. All leagues go through expansion/integration. That doesn't de-legitimize everything that happened before '66.

But the oilers weren’t in the nfl in 1961. They were part of a separate league. So the 61 oilers can’t be one of the best offenses in nfl history because the 61 oilers aren’t a part of the nfl

Best defense is 1977 falcons

Without question. Unlike a lot of teams on this list, they actually did have an elite defense along with their elite offense (4th in both total defense and scoring defense). They just played their worst game of the year at the worst possible time.

I blame Hackett (not solely; Wilson had a terrible season, but mostly). Next year we win... I hope. Hope is a dangerous thing to have as a Denver fan.

That rams team faded really badly in the last stretch of regular season games, if memory serves Cooper Kupp got hurt and had limited playing time so the offense started to really decline.

@@headhunterkingsteve the LOB was a great secondary but they weren't good enough to Hold that Broncos team to 8 points without luck involved. Things such as a high snap at the start of the game and Harvin getting a perfect bounce on the kick return are good examples of that.

The AFC was so bad in 2013 and Denver got to face the NFC east. They padded their stats against a lot of bad teams. For reference the averaged 19.3 points per game in the playoffs. If I’m not mistaken it’s the biggest drop off in league history.

@@dragonboy141 Those are good points. The Broncos toughest opponent in the AFC was either an underdog chargers team or an injury riddled Patriots team with Tom Brady having one of his worst seasons. NFC East had a good Eagles team but that was it.

@@CRMdrifter The Chargers and Seahawks were the only teams to hold Denver to under 400 yards of offense and under 30 points. Chargers did that all three times they played the Broncos that year.

They played a wicked easy schedule in the regular season...they played ONE team with a winning record all season (Tennessee, 13-3, and they lost), the 3rd easiest schedule for a Super Bowl winner aside from the 1972 Dolphins and 1970 Colts. However, The Greatest Show On Turf *is* talked about a LOT as one of the greatest teams ever.

The 2017 Eagles played well in the playoffs, limiting Atlanta to 10 and Minnesota to 7. Yes, they folded against Brady but Foles bailed them out.

Sorry, 7. The top 6 defenses ever ('77 Falcons, '75 Rams, '76 Steelers, '71 Vikings, and '71 Colts) did NOT win a championship. Similar story if you go by YAPG (7 of the top 30). The best team rarely ever wins it all, offense *or* defense, because that's how the ball can bounce in a single-elimination playoff.
