Got as gift. felt bad returning it but I made sure they got their money back. safety didn't work and its single action. I have liner lock knives that deploy when you take them out of your pocket faster.
I’m pretty knew to the whole knife collecting hobby. I don’t have the most money at the moment but these knives will definitely test my spending habits. You guys look like you have some great high quality knives and I hope to buy from you soon!
I've had the Lightning for 20+ years now and it still works flawlessly! Not sure how many thousand times I've opened and closed it, but several. It still klicks as well as the first time!
Maybe a under $100 video is in the future. I've bought 2 Titans and a Boker Magnum from the site before. The Titan can take some serious abuse and it's very lightweight
I recently purchased an MNT otf for under $90 440c steel..great review and it's an American company with great customer service. They also offer a higher grade steel for a bit more.
@@blockofcheese3606 Still have both Titans and my Boker and they function like day 1. I more recently got a Lightning that is very similar to the Titan . They work for me and I'm abusive to them. Only thing I've had to do is sharpen the blades every now and again plus lubricate. It does as intended and that's cut what you need to cut. Only thing I would suggest against is using the blades on the Titan or Lightning as a pry tool as they're not heat treated for those types of tolerances.
Drew Shoemaker yeah if it’s manual that means you have to fold it out and in yourself. It it says spring assist that means you still have to flick it out yourself but it’ll be faster because of a spring. If it says automatic that means the knife comes out on its own just by the flick of a switch.
Very helpful video. Wanting to buy a double action without spending the big bucks and this video had a great deal of info in a small package. Looks like the coffin blaster for me.
Love your videos and your website. Please consider making a video that features the knife care stuff that you offer (knife oil, sharpeners, whetstones, polishing cloths, sheaths, etc.) because once you start collecting knives you want to know how to take care of them. Thanks!
If you haven't already purchased one of the two I honestly recommend the f-16 as a cheap but surprisingly durable knife to have, and it's also fun to fidget with.
@@mattmystery1967 Thanks Matty. As the F-16 Fighting Falcon is my favorite aircraft for personal reasons its hard not to really want the F-16 in Grey. For the money I'll prob eventually own both!
i just ordered the AKC F-16 Black D/A OTF Automatic Knife - Dagger Black Plain. cant wait for it to show up. i kinda wish it had a glass breaker in it but i like the color, the dagger style, the slimness, and what i will call a "cross gaurd" to keep you from slipping down on the blade. thanks for the video
Just received my Lightning Otf and Coffin Blaster from #Grindworx yesterday. Was very disappointed. The Lightning was defective right out of the package and the Coffin Blaster was flimsy and not very well made. Not impressed with either of these models at all. Put in for a return. Still waiting to hear back from them. Fingers crossed.
I bought one these last year (lighting )and after about a week the thumb switch snapped off . Opened it up and the small sliding clip the blade slids and thumb button fits to snapped so the blade is open now cant close it . Not happy lasted less than a week . Waste of $35
Hey, sweet video! Suggestions I have: (lmao what a dick right) 1:show us how stable or not the blade is when deployed, "blade play" really is annoying, and a deal breaker. 2:what type of steel is used? 3:SHOW YOU! hahaha yeah I said it, with that voice, we all wanna see ya! -Just found ya ,gotta check out your store, take care! Thanks a bunch.
That Smith and wesson knife will NOT last forever. Got one for Christmas and the button fell off. It still works manual by sliding the safety pin down, but was not impressed after s&w wouldn't replace it
Dang, that is a bummer. Not something I would have expected given what others have said about the knife. Sounds like you got a rare lemon, unfortunately. -Holly
I bought 4 Lightning OTF from them so far at $34.99 each. Out of the box they weren't very sharp. Probably the least sharp of any knives I've ever bought. So of course I had to put a razor edge on them. I've read many reviews about these knives misfiring and yes so did mine after about a dozen times. A simple flick of the wrist reset the blade. My biggest concern was whether the knife would fail when stabbing something, such as a human, because I bought these knives for self defense and general purpose use. So I stabbed a phone book very hard many times and it didn't fail. And since human flesh, depending on where you stab them, has deferring density, isn't going to be as hard as a phone book. The blades went into the phone book pretty deep. So my overall impression of these knives from the get go is good considering the price. We'll see what the results are after long term use. Update 1/10/20 One of the Lightning knives is already failing often. Having deployed it hundreds of times in the past few days, it's already failing to fire at a 20% rate. So basically it's misfired 1 in 5 times. That's unacceptable in a self defense situation so that particular knife will go in the general use drawer.
@@newartmovbecause I saw in some comments that this knife had a tendency to fail in deploying, I didn't use it other than doing my deploying test. I bought 3 of the same knife. Tested them all. One of them failed miserably. The second one failed off and on. The third one rarely failed. Not a scientific controlled test. Just me lying in bed watching TV and flicking it. But if I was carrying it and needed it in a self defense situation, and it failed, that would be a bad thing. So it's basically a letter owner now. But then again I never intended to carry it as my EDC or self defense knife. It was more for the novelty. 🤙🏾
RowdyRaginRosco - bro trueeee. Move over to Wisconsin. I’ve got family members there and every type of knife (switchblades stilettos otfs etc) is legal.
These people have the best knives at the right prices in my opinion! Ive ordered quite a few of their budget options and have always been pleasantly surprised with the quality but even more so with customer care and shipping times...great stuff guys (gal😉) keep it up!
A business card will stop the blade from firing. If it goes off in your pocket, you'll bleed as much as you would if you were getting your blood sugar checked.
years ago I had a front opener that had a very strong ejection spring. The spring was so strong that it pushed the blade through cabinet shop panel board. Who makes such a quality unit today?
Great explanation informational video! I prefer hearing a woman’s voice liking knives too. Thanks Also as owner of more bigger name bigger priced otf it’s awesome to know there’s cheaper great options out there.
As someone who has owned a single and double action i can say i prefer double action, im a warehouse worker and my hands are always full meaning i dont have time to use both hands to close the knife and put it away.
Do all single action otf,s have to be 2 handed close? I am in the same situation and can't use 2 hands to ckose a knife but like that they say single action has less blade play. Thanks.
They are all garbage. There is no such thing as a good OTF under $50. That is is like picking which cat turd, in the litter box, tastes the best. Bullshitting to sell a product is clownshoes.
And what exactly makes a knife over $300 a keeper?, because ive seen chinese knockoffs perform equal in extreme applications so even the steel quality at that point goes out the window and ive had microtechs and the only conclusion ive reached its that they're over priced junk, ive even seen videos of people that send them for warranty claim weeks after purchase with no actual use of the blade and thought i was the only one...
The thing I don't care for, at all, on the Schrade is how far back the release/return is & how you hold it so far back, "out" of the hand to deploy. I have 1 of their Viper's I believe, it deploys good & strong sometimes & not so the other part of the time. I really like the double action or the in & out of your knives. Thanks for hosting. Jonesy
Ordered an M&P just waiting on delivery. I also have a coffin in my desk drawer for.... You guessed it opening mail and of course for the fun of flicking it on and off.
AKC F16 looks awesome....unfortunately you are out of it and many. The others are bulky. Would be great for my wife but not sure if it will be available again...
Hey guys i need some help, id like to buy an otf double action, im just a bit worried about the safety situation, since i like to carry it hidden inside my trousers, is there any model that comes with a safety button?
I think I would take the o.d. green M&P as I'm a die hard Smith and Wesson fan. What are some of the city's for under 100.00 that have great action and wont break right away.
How do we tell which otf on your site are the zinc alloy, and aluminum handles? The descriptions just says alloy. Edit: I got it. They say alloy (zinc), or aluminum. I just had to dig deeper. Can’t expect a $35 otf to have an aluminum handle.
Just wait eight times longer, save your money and but a Microtech. It's worth it. And be sure to get your exact specifications. Make ,model, color ,blade type. Don't rush and settle for less
Does the 1st smith and wesson single action have to close with 2 hands. Do all single action otf knives have to be closes 2 handed. I have never owned one and need it to be single handed. I also hear they have very little blade play or any at all. Great review by the way. Also your voice is super soothing an pleasant, yet caries knowledge and authority. Nice having a womans voice and opinions for a change in knife reviews on youtube. Thank you. 😀🤟👍
That Titan is baaaad! Partial to double action myself. You were right about the fidget factor on that Coffin Blaster! Thanks for gettin' me into trouble!
You need 2 hands to deploy the schrade?.... sort of (totally destroys one of the major conveniences of an auto) I rarely get the opportunity to see such biblical levels of idiocy in engineering
I have an auto knife that I’m look to buy more of but i don’t know its name. The box says CS tactical edge. Its a spear head i believe and sharp on both sides.
Idk if I like the possible dropping issues with that schrade knife, that knife in an unfamiliar users hands while the owner tells you "careful it's an otf and that black nub on the spine is the trigger" They push it a few times in the direction they think it'll go and when it doesn't they frustratingly push it back and forth. Suddenly the blade has come out the bottom of the knife
4:27 “i like how they moved the release to behind the blade, its a bit safer” *seconds later almost slices through her fucking finger when deploying the blade*
Hi holy , that first lightning otf dagger (non serrated) u showed that's two toned blade , black handle. I couldn't find it on your site. Can u link me it?
Outdoors555 on utube shows alout of hand sharpening and mistakes people make etc.Lansky sharpening kit also works great especially for the price it’s like $50 and it lines the angles up and u just have to stoke the blade.id get the holder clamps that hold the knife in place with the rubber so u don’t scrap your knife though. But it’s only 20 and 17 degree angles but those are great angles for any knife in my opinion.
Knife laws are complicated and vary from state to state. It sucks. Your best bet is to very carefully review your local laws. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck! - Holly
My schrade ofter like 3 years stop firing all the way and it’s still works great I carry it all the time and I’ve chipped the blade tip multiple times and it still good but you have to push the blade a bit forward but still I think I just have to open it and lube it
i bought a tiger tec otf it aint a bad knife i really like it its reliable its sharp but there is one problem i dont like about it its the blade its double edged never was a big fan of double edged blades
