When a person knows their rights and the actually law, cops will say "are you a lawyer" in an atrempt to discredit what you say. But if you ever tried to say "I'm not a lawyer" in order to claim you don't understand the law, they would say that isn't an excuse.

1. Lock doors, 2. Roll windows down 2", 3. Start recording and state the time, 4. Keep registration, insurance, copy of license in a clear plastic pouch above visor. Cops get nervous if you fumble in the glove box. Then people get shot. 5. Say, "I WANT an attorney" not "I NEED an attorney." Need implies guilt. Pleading the 'fifth' has been used in court to imply guilt. 6. Then SHUT UP and stay that way.

Ya, don’t argue with the police on the side of the road. You’ll never win. The police are not your friend. Give them your license, registration, proof of insurance. Tell them your going to reach in the glove box to get what they asked. Never freely give them anything. Don’t tell them where you came from or going to. It’s none of their business. Anything you say can and will be used against you.

Yes, it was. A good example of how Cops have made passive-aggressive language use a fine art! My GF IS an Attorney and a while back during a heated contact with a cop the cop pulled that line, then once she pulled her bar card out told the cop directly face to face that he was enforcing laws and is not an Attorney either. Then looked over to me and said Mike knows more about the Bill Of Rights and the underlying case law than you ever will! After about 5 minutes of that tongue lashing the cop walked away!

Then the driver says, "well, I only had 2 beers/one glass of wine" and the cops are off to the races. "Oh, you don't mind doing these exercises (that 30+% of sober people fail) to show me you're sober." (and I will be the one to subjectively judge that you failed them so I can arrest you for DUI even if you blow a BAC under the limit)

I hope this driver also heeds this wise advice when this passenger is not with him. There are several videos of "friendly" cops who are "just having a conversation" who needlessly and maliciously ruined the lives of their targets. To see this in action, look up Zachary Wester, a former Florida cop who was sentenced to 12 years for planting drugs on innocent drivers. The only thing unusual about Wester's case is that he went to prison for his crimes.

Real people cannot secretly record you in California BUT COPS CAN. Cops can have a "victim" call you, using a script prepared by a police psychologist, designed to get you to say certain things that an attorney CAN AND WILL twist in court to put you in a small cage.

The driver is an absolute fool. The passenger is 💯% correct! It is never in anyone's best interest to speak to a cop! When you're stopped, give them what you're required to give them and nothing else. I mean, are we supposed to be happy that we're being prevented from going about our day? A cop and me would have nothing to discuss. Anything preceeding or proceeding an interaction with a cop is none of that cop's damn business!

He's not a fool, but he is inept. He doesn't recognize when he's been profiled. There are clear clues such as cops approaching from both sides. 2) The flashlight should have been a clear cue. Cops don't ordinarily stand over you with a flash light beaming into the passenger compartment unless they're up to no good. 3) Cops asking question from both sides. 4) The questioning in general are also a clue. They should be centered on the reason for the traffic stop only.

Safety tip: always have your required documents ready before the cops stop you. They should be clipped together and stored in a place where you can grab it quickly without having to move around a lot & without digging or searching for anything. ✊🏽

Best advice I can give. Before you even turn the key make sure you have all documents handy and ready. Assume you are going to get pulled over every time you drive. Pull over turn your interior light on keys up on the dash hands on the wheel. When they ask for documents give them quickly and smoothly. Even the time it takes to give them the documents will be used as reasonable suspicion of DUI.

Being a former juvenile delinquent that was so bad the courts declared me uncontrollable, I learned this lesson early. And I have always told everybody since then that when it comes to dealing with the law, speak as little as possible. If you can answer a question with a yes or no, say yes or no and nothing else. Never elaborate, keep all communication to a minimum. This same advice applies to the courtroom as well.

I honestly and truthfully feel awful when I hear this type of conversation. I have it often with family and friends around me -- unfortunately most of them do not see or even think about the implications of what this uniformed person can do to you in the blink of an eye. They are sheltered and naiive and they giggle and the cops who laugh along with them are THE MOST sinister. As they can smile with that knife in their left hand ready to get you as soon as you turn your back

Everyone out there needs to make and keep an updated packet (Yellow Envelope) with DL #'s written on the outside and Registration and Proof Of Insurance on the inside and have it hanging on the outside of the window and DO NOT SAY A WORD other than there is everything you want and I am invoking my 1st 4th 5th and 14th amendment rights and NO MORE THAN THAT!!!!!! ever Ever EVER!!!!!!!!!

Do an Internet search on the recent decision by a judge on the "Kansas two-step" behavior of Kansas state troopers. Provide what you're obligated to provide and keep your mouth shut -- do not participate in their small talk. It isn't small talk. It's an attempt to get you to say something they can use against you. They are not your friend and they only want to see you in handcuffs. Don't help them.
