BEST PILOT EVER! LACKADAISY (Pilot) REACTION! 

Fun fact! but freckle( the crazy gun dude) actually has applied to the police academy before but they rejected him due to his... unhinged nature.

So, Ivy is my favorite character so far. That innocent "I fixed it!" then cut to the whole car falling apart KILLED ME!

Rocky is actually a very loving guy. He's doing this all because his long time friend needs help. He doesn't actually drink much. Also the scene with the car he actually knew Mordecai and due to his interference- swerved the car right in time to make Mordecai miss. He's just a lil unhinged

So, to answer your question about what was up with those intense gunshot moments from Mordecai, the ticking you hear in the audio is a great bit of auditory character for him. Mordecai is... very orderly, a neat freak, and definitely has OCD (among other things). It was a great bit of characterization for him for the animators to do that ticking, because it kind of insinuates that that is how Mordecai perceives the world around him, that his thoughts are neat and orderly as a ticking clock, exact and precise at all times.

I disagree with the Rocky doesn't care about anyone part, but he is crazy.

Rocky’s definitely not a douche. He’s just a very, very classic case of hyperactive-impulsive ADHD in an age in which that wasn’t even on anyone’s radar. Possibly with some other type of neurodivergence mixed in. He has a very, very active mind that never slows down, and he sees the world around him very differently than how “normal” people see it. In the webcomic, his whole life story fits almost perfectly with how many people with hyperactive-impulsive ADHD struggled in the decades and centuries before diagnosis, support, and treatment were available. In the modern world, he likely would’ve been easily diagnosed, been sent to occupational therapy, encouraged to pursue sports or hobbies that allowed him to run the extra energy off, etc. But back then, there was really nothing for someone whose mind just constantly flitted from one thing to another so quickly. In the comics, it’s implied he either left home young or was forced to do so after a tragedy that he blames himself for, after which he bounced from one job to another, taking him all over the country. His aunt (Freckle’s mother) views him as a combination of “brilliant but lazy” and “too clever by half,” and while she cares about him, she also worries about him “corrupting” Freckle. He also has huge issues with rejection-sensitivity, is clearly desperate for approval and acceptance, and uses his crazy behavior to cover up a whole lot of self-loathing and shame (which didn’t become clear until after a major head injury left him more than a little loopy). He’s the type of person who uses his zany antics to keep people distracted so they don’t notice how depressed and worthless he really feels.

Oh my goodness. On this, my fourth watch, I just caught the name of the business owner in the speakeasy as Mr. Sable, which is the name of the quarry that Rocky’s crew just destroyed. Heh, no wonder he kept asking, “What dynamite and heavy machinery?”

Lackadaisy was originally a webtoon created a long time ago so it was out before helluva boss but they made a pilot on it now

if i had to describe the characters by the comic: Rocky: the clown without common sense frecke: a mom's boy, that try hes best, but in the moment you give him a gun he turns on a switch and turns into a beast

So apparently this is a series that was originally being made as a webcomic like... 15+ years ago or something? It's been around for a while. I can only imagine what this must feel like for people that were with the series since the beginning.

I really like how whenever Mordecai was lining up a shot, the way that the entire scene and sound design just pulls back from it really built up the impression that somebody was about to die when he pulls the trigger.

As a person who has lived near St Louis all my life, I wanted to throw in the detail that that somewhat tall building behind Rocky while he plays is still here, and is the city courthouse. And while the comic states that Wick Sable dedicates a new quarry near the junction of the rivers, they have to be digging in Illinois to have the city behind Rocky, where there still is a quarry in the bluffs just beyond the flood plain. Just little details that make it even better.

Fun fact(s): Rocky is the same va as Angel Dust in the Hazbin Hotel Pilot, Michael Kovach. Also the clean up artist Ashley Nichols? Also the clean up artist for the Hazbin Hotel Pilot as well. Edit: I guess you could also *technically* call this a couple project. Since Mr. Kovach and Ms. Nichols are dating, even stating in one of Ashley Nichols Hunicast Streams that they are living together. 😁

The reason Rocky sounds familiar is because it is the same voice actor as Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel. Rocky does care about people, he is just a BIT unhinged. So is Freckles, if you couldn't tell. 27:40 not before prohibition. Prohibition was the reason the speakeasys existed. Reminiscing back to most likely when her husband was still alive. (The painting in the office she was in when we first saw her, and the "ghost" right at the end)

So, if one looks at the characters from the webcomic, one could figure out WHY they obtained hooch from a coffine. A trio of characters run a mortuary with a side gig of illicit booze. Likewise, Wick, the well spoken gentleman ... er ...cat ... who is a pillar of the community, owns the gravel pit that Rocky ended up blowing up.

This is definitely the case where I root for protagonists, but my whole attention is thoroughly captivated by antagonists. Mordecai is so cool and composed, with him counting shots being one of the coolest things in the entire pilot. Nico is a great middle ground between his colleagues, both having fun and apways ready for a sick save And Serafine... Didn't know I had that in me, but the way she shoots a massive machine gun while sitting in an open window of a speeding car is just... It's just so badass. And hot. Damn, that was hot

Highly recommend the comic that started in 2006 which is still crazy to me how far it has come

You took note of the sketchy lines under the characters. You’re right that it’s reminiscent of old Disney movies. It’s cake to clean that up with the computer now, so I think that was done intentionally. However, the Disney movies got that look after they switched to the Xerox method of copying the pencil drawings directly to the celluloid. Odd lines showing up were more of a glitch back then, but they embraced it as part of the style.

The train in the graveyard scene is a nod to the repeal of braking regulations that allowed trains to roar past non-housing areas at 50 mph. prior to this, they had to coast at about 20 mph or so. This extra speed began the end of the itinerant worker known as the hobo, who could no longer jump aboard a moving train to move on to other jobs.

All the people doing reactions to this pilot, but not realizing this cartoons been out since mid 2000s. You really have to read the comic it’s gives tons of insight to the characters and even snippets of what they say

Sorry I'm late to the party, but..Great reaction!! You remembered what Prohibition was, and about speakeasies..first guy I've seen that 'got it'. Man, I loved this thing. I'm a retired TV guy, and the best 15yrs of my life were when I worked at Cartoon Network (technical staff, not creative). I'd probably still be there if I hadn't been laid off ten years ago. And if any of the 'higher ups' I knew were still working there, I'd be on the phone screaming "GIVE THESE PEOPLE MONEY!" The original webcomics are now available on Lackadaisy's home page - I'd never seen them when they first came out because I'd quit sketching and didn't have a DeviantArt account. Animation Stuff: I've heard others mention that the little lines were left in on purpose as a tribute to 1920s animation. At the time, it was cheap filler for movie theaters between movies, and sometimes, the folks doing 'clean-up' didn't catch them all. I've also heard that Ms. Butler liked to make sketches on paper when she first started working on it. Prohibition Stuff: I'm 60yrs old. My grandmother told me stories about those days. She mentioned how angry my Grandfather was (home from WW1 in 1919) when booze was outlawed in 1920. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the scene in the bar where they all react to how bad it tastes. That was the memory she shared the most.

Fun Fact: The voice actor who played the character Rocky (The main character Protagonist of LackaDaisy) was the same voice actor who did the voice of N from Murder Drones, Jax from The Amazing Digital Circus and Angel Dust from Hasbin Hotel ( 2 indie cartoons serie characters in 3d and 1 indie cartoon character in 2d

I really hate that people are comparing this to Vivziepop’s projects. Vivziepop is a veritable baby compared to how long Tracy’s work has been around. She’s been doing Lackadaisy since 2005 (we were hanging out on Foxprints, her forum back then and it was like a primordial soup). Vivziepop arrived circa 2015 and HH/HB continues to suffer with some of her earliest issues. These two are not at the same level.
