Bowe's was a breath of fresh air when I stayed in city centre seven years ago (I'm American). I had to ask around to figure out what pubs actually had real sessions as opposed to just solo acoustic artists playing "Wagon Wheel" and U2 over and over and someone suggested Bowe's. Excellent excellent pint, nice quiet vibes, good session players in the background enjoying themselves, and very good company who will include you in rounds. I'd definitely recommend for those visiting who like a great comfy pub but aren't into the obnoxious Temple Bar scene.
FFS fella you're doing my head in!!!! Haven't drunk Guinness in fecking years and now I'm having it everywhere I go looking for some descent shtick Even thinking of a trip over to your grand isle just to get a good pint Keep up the good work mate
Your face was priceless when you tasted that pint in Bowes 🤣👍 love the new camera work.... definitely gonna head in there for a few after your 9.2 ratings. Looking forward to part 2 👍
There really is something magical about Guinness. I love beer, I'm big into my local craft brews... Guinness is obstensively and practically a mass market beer. But there is nothing like it. It truly is a class of its own. There are a few beers in the world that can say the same. I might nominate Czechvar in a similar category
You mentioned Grogans as being up there in terms of legendary pubs. I was in there a couple of years ago and bought 3 pints. 2 from one tap and one from another. As we sat down to drink, two of us mentioned that our pints didn’t quite taste that great (from the same tap). The other pint from the other tap was perfect. We all swapped tastes and agreed. I brought the 2 pints back to the counter and explained the situation. The is literally what was said and happened (thought they might be interested if there was a bad keg). The bar tender, a “seasoned” one we’ll say, said nothing. He turned to the till, took the price of 2 pints out and handed to me….. he then said “now F*** off”. Clearly not that they care, but I or my friends, who are middled aged and well seasoned Guinness drinkers have never and will never darken its doors again. I was a bar tender for many years myself and have lived around the world and a honestly say I have never met such ignorance in my live.
I've booked 4 days in Dubs. Written down all these pubs plus the ones on video 2. Can't wait to drink top quality Guinness! The last time I went to Dublin, they were digging up the tarmac for the tram lines. I think it was 2004 or 2005, time flies.
Went to Bowes, expected better after watching this video but to be honest i was on the 10th pint, pretty gassed & about to board a flight back to 🏴 All in all a great day of Guinness in Dublin 🇮🇪👌
Congratulations Bowes 👏. I thought the 1st pint knocked your socks of, but the Bowes pint just looked a picture. Guinness should use your footage for a new tele advert!!😉. Excellent show 👌. They might have to build an extension on back of the pub now! 😀. Cheers Grant.
I always thought the International had great Guinness. Also the manscape ads are hilarious haha...also dying for a Guiness now. I'll be heading to Bowes when I'm up there next week!
I think your right to clean the slate and start again. I've been to a few of the old stomping grounds and been let down. Not sure why. The Palace like the one you went too was a let down and The Bankers, Toners & Grogans. The only one that has been consistent always, even after lockdown has been The Digger's.
PATPAUL ive watched a lot of your videos, and be honest I dont know how you even taste the Guinness not mind even review it,Guinness again in my view is not what it was 20 or 30 years ago,,and best pint of porter I have ever tasted is in nolans pub birr co offally, and is consistently good ,if somone knows you are coming to their pub to review the Guinness,, then it's obvious they are going to be up to par for your visit,I have drun k Guinness all my life, and I know what a good pint is period, nowadays it is impossible to find the same quality pint in any 2 pubs ,considering it's all brewed in the same place, there should be no difference anywhere, cheers.
You don't know how lucky you are over in Ireland with the pint. I'm here in Florida and its like the scutters you'd have the next day after 14 pints and a curry. It's shite. I know what a good pint is. I was born next door to Guinness Brewery and have been drinking it since it was put into my bottle when I was teething baby 61 years ago. 5 years since I've had a pint in Kinvara Galway next May. I gave it 9.1.
Channel supporter. Camerawork and microphone upgrade appreciated. Studious contemplation on those scores. Well Done. The Guru Gulp - your consistent approach to each billowing dome with a deep 4-gulp. The honesty of your score is reflected in your face. Politeness masks the Pints of Meh. I can only dream of finding a “Bowes” pint in my part of the planet. Keep ‘em pouring!
Great video I really enjoyed it as usual but if I had one thing to say, and its not a bad thing, but it would have been cool if you would tell us the prices of each pint. I used to like when you did that.
Finally got to Bowes yesterday while visiting Dublin from Australia. I expected greatness and it truly delivered. Unreal. Tbf every pint I’ve had so far has been incredible. Sadly the Guinness in Australia doesn’t come close at all.
THUMBS UP for starting out with the Thin Lizzy!!! "My God it's gonna be good"...... Followed by an F Bomb...now that is the perfect way to appreciate a good pint! Thanks for the honest review of each Pub. 9.2!!!! Wow my dream trip is to Belfast...I may have to add Dublin to the itinerary LOL Do you have a video telling what you are looking for in the perfect pint and perfect pour?
Why do the bubbles go down? I've heard loads of reasons....from nitrogen rather than CO2......friction with the sides of the glass....shape of the glass....anybody know the actual reason? It's said to happen on all drinks but I'm up at midnight wondering how I didn't know about this before now. Yes, I'm late to the table.....now...about those bubbles?
The one thing i love about this part of the world compared to where I live in the U.S., all the damn history. The fact that McDaids, tracks all the way to 1779 c;ear;y, and that's considered a young genealogy just makes my heart warm lmao
Hi, only watched you drinking 1st pint sofar wile on my morning break.....but had to comment! Feel like running out of work in W-Yorkshire..to Leeds & Bradford Airport and over to Dublin....🤣! Nothing like a Great pulled pinta Guinness!!! Your face and actions, an the (MAGIC) judgement said it all!! I,ll watch rest at home later. Cheers Grant 😊
Just a little suggestion, the camera focus on the first pub is very distracting. The pint/background keeps coming in and out of focus - but great camera work otherwise!
I’ve been drinking Guinness in Dublin pubs for over 40 years and the best pint over all those years is The Grave Diggers(Kavs) in Glasnevin, some others come close but Kavs is number 1.
Eee arrr Darragh here's one for you. I recently visited Dublin for the 1st time, and my findings was J R Mahones had the best pint of Guinness in Dublin, don't think anyone's said that one have they, it was unreal 😋
I had the good fortune to visit Dublin on Saturday 20th May 2023 and had on my list to go to pubs were, Mulligans, Bowes, Tom Kennedys, Walsh's and the Gravediggers. The first tow weren't open, bummer, we had a tourist visit to the Guinness Storehouse, on the way TK's was shut at 12.20pm ! then went to Dudley's, not the greatest pint as was extra cold. No signs on the taps to prove this but I have been drinking Guinness for 52 years, and I know a pint of extra cold, not good. Then went to the Guinness Storehouse and the Guinness was better, but no schtick. Then went back into the Temple area and had some food then off to Bowes. WTF of a pint, the best by a country mile, exceptional. Finished the trip off to the Grave Diggers, very good, but on the day, Bowes inched it, 9.3 to 9.2 to the Grave Diggers.
Just came back from Dublin for my first trip. Wasted most of the first night in the Temple Bar area. Nothing wrong with it but like you said it was very touristy. Got a bollocking from one of the cabbies later that night who told us we should head further out for the real Dublin experience. I'm annoyed to see how much you loved tha Bowes pint because we must have walked passed that bar about 5 times without going in ffs.
Darkey kellys is the best Guinness i have had in Dublin so far. Bowes was second. Was suprised as i thought it would be insanely good. The chap behind the bar wasn't exactly tourist friendly either.
I don’t know how any pint of Guinness would ever get to the high 9’s and 10’s if Bowes was only 9.2. It’s like you don’t even like Guinness or something
Very jelous, dont get shtick here in new zealand, the guinness has traveld to far still some good pints to be had tho believe it or not. Good vid cheers
Blimey, not heard that expression for years. 😁. He just needs to visit Killorglin and go to Sheahan's in The Square for The Craic and a Pint (or maybe 1 more). Suas an glas agus an t-ór (courtesy of Google translate).
Fucking love this schtik. I get all my pints in Texas from the same place that does them right but I think I'm still not going to discern differences like a true Irish pintman.
Awesome video again fella, love your dedication to your craft! Hope you can give us the lowdown on Guinness in London sometime, get yourself down to The Toucan in soho for starters!
I have had pints at Cobblestone & Gravediggers, very good! Also, in Ringsend, The Yacht. Ask for Darren and tell him Thomas, The American sent you. Also, Frank Ryan’s Pub, Springfield, the owner was the one who told me about Gravediggers, I went to Gravediggers after I tour the Cemetery. By the way, Delaney’s near Cobblestone, very nice, good craic. Look for Sean & Stephen in the smoking area. ( an older Irish guy and a French man) I cannot name all the pubs I went to but about 12 over 40 days. In Killarney, Jack O’Briens. Donegal, The Reel Inn Bollybofey, McKelvey’s Bar Doolin, McGann’s Pub (tourist stop) Not so impressed in Galway and Sligo.
The Guinness guru should know the name of the glass he's drinking from it's called a tulip for oblivious reasons. Briody's pub watch your language owner doesn't take to kindly to swear word's.
Thank fuck you’ve gone back to da classic review without noisey gobshites around you was annoying.Keep up da good work👍Been binge watching your videos da last few days and subscribed should have done so earlier👌
New Word , I’ll give you mine ‘Mother’s Milk’ 👌 Gave up drinking Guinness regularly as the difference in taste is bonkers from pub to pub . Beamish for me now when out in Cork . The white glass is a give away 🤩
Just hit Dublin - Bowes and Palace were almost dead heat but preferred Bowes as it was just perfection. Vibe at Bowes can’t be beat either. Best part is they’re just a block from each other. Do both!
20:57 fuckin pissed myself laughing with a mixture of joy and jealousy. Gutted you haven't replied to my email but absolutely gutted I'm not in Dublin suppin pints.
Was in Dublin in Dec22, we did Bowes, Mulligans, Kennedys, Storehouse amongst others, and on this visit The Palace on Fleetstreet was the best we had. Far better than the 7.2 here.
