I watch a hell of a lot of RU-vid channels on carnivorous plants, particularly Nepenthes. I currently own 3 of them, Alata, Sanguinea, and Ventrata, amongst other plants, Pings, Flytraps, Sundews etc etc. I find your videos to be among the best available sir, very informative and your Neps are amazing too. Keep up the great work, my man 👌🪴👌🪴

My first nepenthes were Miranda and N. alata. I had great luck with both till I moved. I used to have them in my kitchen over the sink, east window with just a light bulb over them. Alata does great cuttings for me. Trying a new spot now and they seem to be okayish. Too much AC in the summer! I have Gaya and N. Ventrata x alata. Ive never tried any ampullaria hybrids though, guess I will soon!

My first was alata. But i try some other species. My Windowsill have some rare species but i think the most implrtant thing its to have a good air circulation in the room and of course the temperature about 24- 28. The important thing its that they have a fall at night by 15 to 18C. And the huminity about 70%. I have my big c Chameleon Terra next the Wi dowssill so they have temperature about 26C during the day. If the Terra is off at night the temperature its falling about 18C. I have 15 species of Nepenthes and they do well

My first Nepenthes was Ventrata. I still have it, and it is over 2 meters high. It hasn't pitchered in over a year, but I'm not giving up on it, I'm working on the lighting. To add to your list, I've had N. attenboroughii for more than a year now, and it is doing great. Every leaf has a pitcher, although the pitchers die off when the new one is ready. N. vogelii also grows like crazy. My x Hookeriana seems to enjoy making basal shoots way more than new leaves and pitchers.

Hey there! I’ve been keeping Nepenthes for almost a year now, and I’ve encountered this strange worm looking thing squirming through or on top of the sphagnum moss. It’s super thin, maybe around half an inch long….ate you familiar with these? Should I be concerned?

For Sanguinea and Boschiana, I agree it could work even if way less easy than the listed plants here. But Gracilis, smilesii, and Mirabilis are lowlanders, not all windowsills will work for them. On mine, Mirabilis was struggling were Briggsiana not. :)

Started with a ventricosa that has grown super well, then got a lady luck and 2 others. My light was apparently way too bright for the lady luck and 2 others as all their pitchers schriveled up. I adjusted my settigns and the other two are doing great and regrowing, but the lady luck seems to be in an almost dormant state, no growth. Despite the others having issues the ventricosa did not care and continued to grow amazingly; none of the browning of the leaves like the others had. Reducing the light for all of them I think helped the ventricosa also as it is now producing tons of pitchers. Short version: You basically can't go wrong with ventricosa as your first nepenthes, just remeber that the conditions it can take might not be the best for other species even if they are also in the "hardy/intermediate" zone.
@cooper9658
@cooper9658 11 месяцев назад
Also, I'm growing them in Colorado just in my room and despite the very low humidity, a few sprays with a spritzer keeps them happy.

My very first nepenthes was an alata(graciliflora?)! I may not grow in a windowsill but wow, I was pretty surprised at how it handled temperature risings and drops. It is very hot here during most of the year, the winter is pretty short yet once it hit I had to be prepared. The temperature dropped to around 4°C (day/night) and the Alata was still growing and pitchering, a little slower but beautifully!

Hello Remy! Thank you for this video and especially for detailing which neps prefer higher or lower temps. It's a great reference point for a simple nepenthes shopping list. I started growing nepenthes last year with a random Rebecca Soper found in a market and got a few different crosses now, planning to expand my collection in spring when temperatures will be higher again. I was really happy to see ampularia on the list as I really like the little fat barrel-like pitcher it produces and it's definitely on my to-buy list. Thank you once again and greetings from Poland!

I have cool intermediate conditions during summer and strict highland to nearly ultrahighland in the winter and I’ve found hybrids with Campanulata to be very forgiving compared to similar hybrids without. For instance, I’ve had a Boschiana x Truncata that hasn’t grown for me nearly at all, it’s putting out leaves but never actually gaining size. But, I have a huge Boschiana x (Truncata x Campanulata) that grows like a weed. I also have a Song of Melancholy x Campanulata that puts out leaves very very quickly and doesn’t mind the colder temperatures at night. Campanulata in theory shouldn’t enjoy the cooler temperatures but in the wild it grows on cliffs over the ocean so maybe it’s adapted to wind coming off of the water being quite cold. I’ve also found that maxima hybrids create tolerance for cooler temperatures too. I have a similar issue with my Truncata Pasian hating me and not getting any bigger but my Truncata x Tiveyi, which should in theory be a warmer intermediate grower, grows very quickly for me and doesn’t mind the cooler temperatures. I think more experimentation should be done with Campanulata hybrids but they might be tougher than we’ve all thought.
