Very fun to see your studio. I wasn't done the last time I visited. I am always intrigued to see the reference photo next to the finished product in your videos. I like what you said about your own emotions present when looking upon a scene yourself, and about your perception of how the scene could look once painted. Those two things could completely change how the scene looked once painted. I am not an artist, as you know, so this is very intriguing and educational to me.
Cool ! Thank you for this valuable information . I was wondering about this & i will check out this unsplash.com . Hope you have a fabulous weekend & Thank you Kris . * i am always taking down notes hahaa* Love this Mailbox painting !
Great question. It is perfectly fine to use any image off the Internet, if your only intent is to practice. However, as you stated, you should not post the painting, enter a competition with the painting, or sell the painting. Thanks for watching.
Any recommendations on a new painter on how to use these references? For example do you look and paint or print, sketch and use a lightbox? (My drawings skills have been rusty since high school)
Hi Danielle. Great question. I draw free hand from observation of the reference. I used to trace using a light box. But I recently became convinced that painting is really an extension of drawing and I needed to work on those skills. When I sketch by hand I am SEEING the subject and studying it much more than if I just trace it. I think I need to address this question in a video. 😁
I take screenshots of videos.. And while i paint i dont paint the same as it look..becoz i cant.. After it just a reference..idea to portray to how it should look is my signature work.
