Darlin', I'm from Orlando, Florida. Three of my 4 grown children live in Florida. I moved to Idaho May 2019....and I LOVE IT! I have no regrets! The people are amazing, the views are spectacular, no matter where you are. I live on the Idaho, Utah, Wyoming border, in Bear Lake County. Montpelier, ID, to be exact. The hospital, here is awesome and better then big hospitals. The doctors are great! Everyone knows my name, when I go grocery shopping. People look you in the eye, and help each other. I did live on the Arizona/Nevada Border, but escaped as violent crime is 62% because of the illegals....and it was too hot & dry, and the water is bad. You are recommended to NOT drink the tap water....and it burns when you wash dishes & shower, the water is so bad. Lake Mead is over 160 feet down, as Californication selfishly steals water. Earthquakes have been bad in the southwest, too. Living in Idaho, the winter is not as bad as I thought it would be. I loved it....tbe snow is powder not wet, slushy & easy to drive on. They keep the roads real clean, too. Boise & the west part of Idaho gets less snow, but Boise, Nampa, Eagle, etc., are too populated for me. Montpelier has 2800-3000 residents. Which is what I was looking for. A great community, away from the BS. Yellowstone is not very far away. Lots of fishing & hunting, goes on. The County Fair is awesome! I just can't get over how wonderful the people are....they are warm & inviting. I don't miss Florida, at all, as it has become one big megalopolis, crime ridden, illegals, druggies, and way over populated. I took a nursing travel assignment to Miami area, after Hurricane Andrew went through, and it was bad then, in 1992-93. So much corrupt government, it is sad. I hope you consider Idaho, seriously. You won't regret it.
@@DianeHasHopeInChrist Hi Diane. I too am from central Florida. I grew up in St Cloud. I miss that small town vibe and I have my eye on Idaho. What do you think about Pocatello? I know it's not small but, love those old buildings in downtown.
@Rex Zamponi How was it? I'm from TX too, but lived in Washington State for about 20 years. Moved to the SF area 5 years ago for work, and I can't wait to leave CA. WA, OR & Idaho are on my list, but I haven't visited ID yet. What did you think of it?
That's so funny. Back in the '60s when I was going into the Navy, my girlfriends father said he knew someone that went in the Navy. He got stationed in Athol. Said it was an absolute mud hole and nothing to do. The Navy used to have airbasees around the country but most are gone and maybe turned into regional airports. I'm glad i did not end up there back then. I doubt I could live there now since I have lived in big cities all my life but I know a lot of people like it and good luck to them. Thanks for the tour!
that fog is caused by those lakes' surface waters being warmer than the air temps. clear skies allow for rapid radiant cooling...which creates a surface low, and draws cooler air across the surface waters, which are often 20f+ warmer than the air at night. this is what causes that fog. just note, fog and 32f surface means black ice. ice is a bigger issue in north idaho...much bigger. minor ones occur every 2-3 years. major ones happen every 7-10 years...causing lasting power outtages, road closures, fallen trees and boughs, and even roof collapses. do your research, know your situation. my adopted sisters bio-mom lived in athol for many years, then the great ice storm of 1995 happened, and we had to find temp housing while insurance repaired her house (large, heavy fallen pine boughs. a friend north of spirit lake, in the backwoods lost powergrid access for nearly 6months. this was in the very early days of the internet...but today, that too would go out. fortunately, they had site2site 2way radio, coz the landline went out, and there were no cell towers in the area at the time. they were on a diesel genny for power, and wood for heat...sat TV. if you're a good part prepper, then these become only convenience matters.
Yes, Athol has trains. Athol is in the middle of the "Funnel". The Funnel is the BNSF railroad from Spokane, WA to Sandpoint, ID. The name Funnel is from the two railroad lines being combined between these points. At Spokane the railroad splits with one line going to Seattle, WA and another going to Portland, OR. At Sandpoint, ID one line goes to Missoula, MT and Billings, MT and points east and the other line goes up to Bonners Ferry, ID then east across Northern Montana (the High Line) to Minneapolis and Chicago. There is another railroad line through Athol (Union Pacific) from Spokane that goes up to Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry and up to Canada. The Funnel is a favorite location for railroad buffs to watch trains in beautiful scenery.
@@LiveBetterinNorthIdaho I forgot to mention how many trains run through the area. BNSF runs 50 trains a day UP runs 10 trains a day Amtrak run 2 trains a day
5 acres of land can't be worth 200k by itself.. but let's assume that's what they're charging JUST for the land, that'd mean they're still charging 300k just to build a 2000sqft non-custom house... THAT is insane.
You nailed it, I am in my sixties and been in construction all my life. My wife and I have been checking on homes around the country and seems the RE agents are very cocky as in they really believe the prices that they quote are a deal. I lived for quite a while in Alaska so I know that there are some unexpected cost most folks don't know about when building but this is excessive. Wait until all the people and there are millions of them because of the massive hit our economy just took realize they can't afford that 500 thousand dollar shack they bought, reality is coming and the normalcy bias will not save them from the fact America is not the same place it was 7 months ago. Good catch though, if you saved there will be some huge bargains in the coming years.
I am a very conservative guy who is tired of how liberal Florida is becoming. I am planning moving to North Idaho next year God willing. Thanks so much for the info!
Thank you for your time in creating these videos. My family all left me out here in California and moved to North Idaho. They love it out there! I love visiting that great outdoors! My father started a new life up there many years ago and passed away at Twin Lakes Village. I'm crying happy tears while reminiscing the good times out there. My father's dream came true when he lived up there. I wish happiness and health to you. 🙌🤗🙌
My grandparents live in nearby Rathdrum. It's bland. Coeuer d'Alene is ok. Idahoans want friendly treatment when they travel to your state, but they're unpleasant to $ spending visitors doing the same.
Love watching this! I have a sister and brother-in-law that live in Rathdrum, also a son living there and a son and daughter-in-law that live in Spirit Lake We lived in Rathdrum for a few years. Moved for my husbands work. He passed away a few years ago, and I would love to go back. Real estate prices have skyrocketed in the past couple of years, so I probably won't make it! Thanks for the video, makes me feel like I'm home.
just got 5 acres about three miles from silverwood, power to the road can't wait to start building the barndominium on it. Well and septic are gonna be a challenge
Got property in Priest River up in the hills...love it!! Newport is like maybe 25 minutes from me if i needed to go to Safeway. Sandpoint/Ponduray is a little bit further away. Take me 25 minutes to get down off the mountain to Dufort Rd. onto the 95. Then another 25 minutes or so into Sandpoint to the Walmart. Its another 35-40 minutes or more if I go the other way into Hayden. Great video, yes Athol is beautiful but its getting more and more crowed. Post Falls was like that once, it was literally beautiful there...now...a house everywhere you look. Not so pretty there anymore.
I went to McArthur Lake last weekend, sister sent me a postcard of McArthur Lake. I had to go check it out, had lunch in Bonner's Ferry. Spent the day before checking out Mount Spokane, home to Montana 😎
We love your videos. We'll be moving there in June to rent before we buy. We've visited, but really appreciate these videos driving around so we can get a good look at the different areas.
@A A D Where did you move to in TX? I'm a native Texan, but fled the heat/humidity 20+ years ago. Lived in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years, and have now been in the SF area for 5 years. Many leaving CA are fleeing because of cost of living, but there are also a TON of conservatives leaving CA because of how liberal and socialist/politically correct it has become. The Social Justice Warrior majority here cannot tolerate anyone who doesn't believe in anarchy, tearing down the state while simultaneously preventing anyone from expressing a different opinion. They want laws enacted to restrict every aspect of our lives. Some of those fleeing to your state are your allies. They've seen where the liberal road leads and want out. With the exception of those moving to Austin (I know, lived in Austin for 15 years, before it became the national destination it is now), the Californians you are gaining are probably on your side. I promise you that they are not all bad people. I'll be one of them someday, although I can't move to TX again. Too hot !
@Martinelli Realty Team It would have been good show a burger from that place, and you never took us through the gun shop or the lumber yard for pricing and grades. It’s those little touches that draw you to a place and really get a feel.
My parents lived in Athol for almost 3 years and... the roads that are on private roads are horrible. I still loved it, but it felt like going on a roller coaster!
I’m in a small city 2 hours upstate from NYC. I’m selling because we’ve been invaded and my sons live out west! It scares me that people don’t want us! I just want to live my final years in peace. Please don’t hate people who are just trying to find peace! I’ll get rid of my NY plates right away!
More like, the "wrong kind of ppl". I have lived in rural Washington most of ,my life. Now alot of ppl have moverd in and simply changed the status quo over the years. It is no longer a small town. We have ppl here now who bring with them their city like attitude and $ to bid up our real estate. Taxes doubled within the last ten years. No longer the same.
@@peterandkodiak9762 Oh come on! Silverwood theme park and the new grocery store that is local to northern idaho... is what changed the pace of Athol. Most out of state people buy in Coeur d'alene and if they buy in Athol, they buy on the private road access areas and they flip a horrible maintained 2.5-5 acre plot to a decent plot of land. Change is good... but then again when that new grocery store came it KILLED the small grocery store and put them out of business FAST. So your logic is failed.
I get it, but those of us living in communist Washington need a place to live that's still America. We'll be good neighbors. There will be too many of us, and I'm sorry.
Kory, just came across your video and I have to say watching it is very peaceful! We are watching from Northern Illinois thinking of moving out that way. Thank you for taking us through all the beautiful areas! Very informative!
Thank j for taking the time to show me your city! California native, 64 year old, widow, retired, watching my state become a battle ground! Extremely sad and scary.would love to move to Idaho. Looking into it, just hope I’m welcome.
Our and family used to live just outside of Spirit Lake. When my wife and I would visit, about two times a year, we often went to Country Boy Cafe. I'm a breakfast person and my appetite was taken care of there. I favored the Chicken Fried steak and my wife went for the Chicken Fried chicken. Farragut State Park is a must see for anyone interested in WW 2. This is where the Navy had a training camp for Submariners wannabes. It was very interesting to see the Brig and assorted accoutrements. If you love history, you need to see this place. Thanks for taking us along on this short journey. Idaho is a beautiful state with a lot of history. Again, thank you. Stan
You have two months of tourist overcrowding in the summer. And 9 months of bug biting, cloudy humidity cold into the joints and bone! The fear of federal land being over taken by fire is really high these days🥺 and you can't see out the claustrophobic forest most of the time. Nice place to visit but not to stay.
As always Kory, great information and especially on a localized level. When you stopped at Country Boy Cafe I was missing the Idaho Digs series. Thanks so much for your in-depth, informative and always interesting tours.
Great video as always Kory. You helped my buddy Jeff H. get an amazing place in Careywood. I’ll be reaching out soon to see if we can set up a tour in April. Thanks for all your great videos and info✌️
Thanks kory for your great videos I just got back to phoenix az from cda. This was my first visit,we are planning to move your way in may after school gets out.The four day visit was great, the people and area were all very nice. Got some laughs at the bar at sweet lou's when I brought our five months of $400 electric bills. Also asked some locals about 4wd vehicles. Can you comment on both these topics on future videos.Oh I also liked the 2.25 gas prices.Again thanks for you awsome videos.
The on road use of 4wd recreational vehicles was one of the selling points for us. It's very cool to be able to hop on a quad or side by side, drive through town and straight in to some of the public lands, paper company land, etc... Or just take it up to the grocery store in the summer for fun. Also no helmet law, so if your comfortable with it, you don't have to bother. North Idaho is truly unique and I hope it never changes!!
Please do not move to Idaho if you want to change Idaho, most of us up here do not want you here. If you act like a Californian it may not work out well for you . But I will add for the most part that Idahoans are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, they will hold a door for you and say hello or howdy at any given time. Idahoans care about family their neighbors, towns and cities the great outdoors and most of all their State. In Idaho your word is your bond, your character and honor will be judged by others around you.
Athol itself is not very retail oriented. It has the necessary stores, groceries, hardware, etc. Coeur d'Alene is about twenty minutes south and that is where your hospital is found. Kootenai health.
35 years ago I drove tour bus, in late June I would do a month long tour with Rotary exchange students, we originated in Ontario Canada, went across the US to Seattle then up into Canada and back. We stayed at a campground or State park on the bottom tip of Farragut. I always liked saying we stayed in Athol...then I'd say it sounds like I'm lisping doesn't it. Absolutely beautiful area...wish I could do that trip again, but sadly they ended after 9/11
Soooo, you're begging me to move back to Idaho.....I'll be there in August to hike the Sawtooths! May take a look at some properties. I've lived in Priest River twice in my life and need to get back to the mountains.
My daughters live there and my grandsons work at silver wood every summer it is very pretty their .y daughters both bought land And have berry pretty homes they built there with surrounding woods around them and lots of wildlife
Nate D. I drive through athol almost every day and don’t notice I went through it til I’m about 20 miles past 😂 literally nothing to see and nothing worth stopping for
Kory I live on Rocky Rd one road over and our address is Rathdrum, is there a boundery line between the roads. I walk in this subdivision most every day, the building is crazy.
I grew up on rocky road, parents had the house built in 1979. There were only 7 houses on that road at that time. There were no sub divisions or anything. I spent alot of time as a kid on round and lone mountain. It's a shame now that the area is packed with houses. It used to be a beautiful area, lots of elk and moose used to come through our field. Maybe you live in my old house lol.
Lone Mountain Estates look nice! Is this area limited to satellite internet I assume? We are looking to move to the area and need a strong internet connection.
I lived in Northern Idaho for five wretched years in the late 70's/early 80's. To be kind, I would not recommend moving there. To put it bluntly, when I lived in Idaho, Athol was spelled Asshole for good reason!!
Awesome, Kory! I was just thinking what types of areas are “desirable” in North Idaho. You wrapped a lot of information into that video! As I see emails of properties listing on Zillow, I often wonder about the neighborhoods. Sometimes, surrounding property prices are displayed and satellite imaging can give lot/home size. But here in Sacramento county, CA there are small pockets of higher value homes surrounded by lesser neighborhoods. If you have time for other such videos - this was packed with incredible information - perhaps areas of downtown Coeur d’Alene? Or is that not an area of your business focus?
Great video as always! Question about the new lots you showed at the end of the video. For my work i need a solid internet connection, is that possible to get there in Athol? Thank you
For someone that works from home and having kids who when they're not outside love to play console games and stream movies, how is the internet out in the rural area of Athol?
We thought about moving there but........they need to change the name LOL The one reason we won't move there is because of those dam trains ! They run just about every 15-30 minuets
Interesting...I am considering a move to Idaho, and have ruled out places like this due to their proximity to CDA (heard that its becoming too much a lefty spot - no thanks!) However in fairness, I did see the video showing those wonderful armed ID patriots protecting CDA from possible rioters. That was wonderful - thank you, folks!
Assuming Athol is a county with a town of the same name within ? I am texting this before the end of your Video....so where do people work...average temperatures,...cost of property...assuming Athol is not a politically liberal area...etc. I have been through Sand Point, then over into Montana.....pretty country.
Very BAD FIRE August 15, 2023. Went from nothing to immediate evaluation level 3. They were fortunate to have air support close by fighting another wildfire close by.
This community showed her awesome colors yesterday. It certainly started out very scary, resulting in government, community and neighbors lining up to evacuate people, property and livestock. As of this morning, the fire is 100% contained and was kept to 60 acres, no injuries, and only a motor home and out building were lost. The people of Athol and her surrounding communities rock! coeurdalenepostfallspress-id.newsmemory.com?selDate=20230816&goTo=A01&artid=1
