Abstract Sustainable consumption requires that people, companies, and nations promote correct use of their resources in the interest of environmental protection and ecosystem integrity. Consumers are now more aware of the environment and are making environmentally conscious choices when making purchases. In this study, the influence of consumer behavior on sustainability has been assessed. An article has been written about the recycling of mobile phones and its effects on sustainability. These mobile phones are made with hazardous materials that can harm the environment if not disposed of correctly. Recycling mobile phones is a more sustainable option, but it requires user cooperation. This study explores the factors influencing mobile phone users' intentions to recycle their devices, with a focus on demographic differences, specifically age and gender, in attitudes towards mobile phone recycling and stockpiling in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). By extending the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework and incorporating new factors like data security and perceived benefits, along with elements from the Integrated Business Model (IBM), the study analyzed 601 online survey responses from UAE residents. The results revealed differences between men and women, with women showing lower concerns about data privacy and storing more devices, particularly when having two devices. Men, on the other hand, tended to have more stored devices when the number reached three or four. These findings provide valuable insights for stakeholders in the mobile phone industry, emphasizing the importance of considering demographic variations in attitudes towards recycling and stockpiling when developing Reverse Supply Chain Management (RSCM) systems. Table of Contents Introduction: 4 Materials and Methods: 4 Findings: 5 Discussion: 8 Conclusion: 12 References: 13 Introduction: The rapid growth of the global economy has fueled a surge in mobile phone usage, making them the most prevalent electronic devices in modern society, surpassing computers. This shift is driven by ongoing technological advancements in mobile phone technology, fueled by the rapid expansion of digital businesses and fierce competition among smartphone manufacturers to introduce new models each year. Consequently, the lifespan of mobile phones has decreased, leading to a rise in demand for these devices. Sustainable consumer behavior refers to the actions and choices made by individuals as consumers that are environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable. It involves making informed decisions that minimize negative impacts on the environment, support ethical and fair labor practices, and contribute to the long-term well-being of society. This can include purchasing products made from sustainable materials, reducing energy and water consumption, supporting companies with strong sustainability practices, and recycling and reusing items whenever possible. Sustainable consumer behavior is important for addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality.Consequently, the reduced lifespan of mobile phones has driven higher demand, resulting in a buildup of unwanted devices in households and workplaces. This accumulation significantly contributes to electronic waste generation, presenting environmental and health hazards (Attia et al., 2021; Ben Yahya et al., 2023).The aim of this review article is to provide an overview of the current state of mobile phone recycling, including the challenges and opportunities in the industry. We will explore the environmental benefits of recycling mobile phones, the processes involved in recycling, and the importance of proper disposal methods. Focusing on its positive impact on sustainability. Materials and Methods: To create this report, This study employed a quantitative research approach utilizing a survey method to investigate consumer behavior towards mobile phone recycling in the UAE. Data collection was conducted through a self-administered questionnaire distributed among respondents. The questionnaire was designed based on a five-point Likert scale to measure attitudes and behaviors related to mobile phone treatment and disposal methods. The sample size was determined using the Cochran formula to achieve a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 4%. Considering a population size of approximately 9.89 million in the UAE, the calculated sample size required for this study was 601 completed questionnaires. The survey utilized a non-probability self-selection sampling technique, where respondents voluntarily chose to participate in the study. The questionnaire included both closed-ended and open-ended questions to gather quantitative and qualitative data. Closed-ended questions utilized the Likert scale to assess the frequency and percentages of various mobile phone treatment and stockpiling methods. Open-ended questions allowed respondents to provide detailed explanations or additional insights into their behaviors and attitudes towards mobile phone recycling. A three-step data analysis process was employed to develop the data analysis in the study. Out of the 630 respondents, only 601 final responses were included in the analysis. The study first examined the general background of the respondents. Measurement Model Evaluation and Structural Model Evaluation were then used to conduct appropriate data analysis. An IBM-based model was utilized to evaluate the extracted data and identify the potential determinants that significantly contribute to consumer recycling behavior sustainability (Siraj, Taneja, Zhu et al., 2022). Result: The evaluation of the article reveals that currently, over 6.5 billion individuals have a worldwide own mobile phone, and this figure is rapidly increasing. The data analysis reveals notable trends in mobile phone treatment and recycling behaviors among users in the UAE. A majority of respondents (32.9%) tend to retain their mobile devices for three years, followed closely by 27% who keep them for four years. The primary reasons for replacing old phones include damage (45.9%), desire to keep up with technology (24.6%), and outdated operating systems (10.3%). Regarding old phone disposal, a significant portion (42.3%) store their devices at home or in the office, while 28.8% give them to friends or family. When asked about barriers to mobile phone recycling, the most common reason cited (37.8%) was the preference to gift phones rather than recycling them for a low price. Additionally, 30.4% expressed uncertainty about where to recycle, and 24.1% cited privacy concerns. The results presented in Figures 2 to 6 compare the responses from the questionnaire, highlighting key trends and patterns. By gaining insights into how mobile phone users approach recycling and device storage, this study can help in developing effective strategies to promote sustainable mobile phone recycling practices. The initial survey question focuses on the duration for which mobile phone users in the UAE retain their devices before recycling, reselling, or donating them. The findings suggest that men tend to replace their mobile phones more frequently than women, and on average, both genders use their devices for about three years. Additionally, the study reveals that mobile phone users in the 25-35 age group, which represents the typical employment age range in the UAE, are more likely to replace their devices compared to older or younger users.
