I define yandere by a character who has two obsessions with one obsession being an idea and the second obsession being a person who embodies these ideals from the yanderes perspective and the yandere ends up ruthlessly pursuing their second obsession, unless the yandere is to incompetent or some other reason that they can’t pursue that obsession.

I think it's also notable that not only did they base these characters on popular archetypes, but they also have them develop and still have interesting stories going on with them. Because simply having these archetypes is still a far step from being good xD because they can easily be too formulaic and boring. Kinda how the gang in xy was lame because they used certain archetypes, but barely did anything with them. In comparison, the scavio characters all have their own stories, characteristics that go beyond just the archetype and they change over time, while coming together towards the end to create a fun group dynamic, even if we unfortunately don't see enough of it imo. Although Indigo Disk probably gives us more of that as well as adds Carmine and Kieran to the broship group.

I’m just happy that Pokémon finally figured out how to make a rival that isn’t just a cardboard cutout stereotype. The ability to have multiple storylines in the same game gave enough space for these characters to truly develop and express themselves. I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the indigo disk.

If I had a penny for every character from a Japanese video game named Carmine who has long, red hair, acts rude and abrasive and has a hidden softer side, I'd have two, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Strictly speaking he didn't say Nemona was obsessed romantically. Just that she's obsessed with you as a rival trainer. Carmine is the only one he said has some kind of deeper bittersweet feelings she shows before the DLC wave 1 story is over.

I love how almost every rival in this generation is memorable and impactful in the story in their own ways as each other them has a story arc specifically revolving them. They are very memorable compared to the XY rivals. Dont lie, aside from Calem and Serina, you dont remember the names of the other 3 rivals back in XY. Even if you did, you probably only remember Tierno for his sick moves or Shauna since shes a girl.

I disagree because they've got intricate plot lines and encounter or battle you more than once. That's far more than Trevor, Tierno and Shauna ever got in X/Y and even they are considered as rivals.

"Well made characters" (looks at Carmine and Kieren) Maybe...but it's just too bad the writing for Teal Mask was garbage. That tends to be the deal breaker even with a good idea for a character. (Case in point: Wolverine Origins Deadpool vs. standalone movies Deadpool)

With the embarrassing amount of anime I've seen, the plots of most of the pokemon games are pretty transparent and easy to predict.

My biggest issue with the Scarlet Violet games story mode, Geeta's Pokemon team order. Like she's got a Kingambit and a Glimmora who should be in different positions in her team roster. So Glimmora has a ability that throws down toxic spikes when hit. A good move as a first pokemon but, it's her ace Pokemon at the end. It would've worked better at the front. And then Kingambit has Supreme Overlord ability that makes it stronger with each defeated pokemon but she's not using it last. It's coming out between her 2-5 pokemon missing the opportunity of having a fully powered Pokemon. I love how each of the rivals have a Dere style characteristic. I love how you explain their connections to their Deres and some anime examples to help illustrate them

I would really like it if in Pokémon games in the future if the “rival” became a partner a bit like how ash misty and brick travel together they don’t even need to specifically have the goal of beating the Pokémon league.

but its more competetive violence for sport rather than love... dang NOW Im thinking Nemona is like a female Kakarot if more annoying and also just a teen girl pokémon trainer instead of a ultra super monkey alien god person that saves multiverses... etc. Nemona wishes she could be THAT crazy with her battles probably.... Would she challenge Lvl100 Red with all Shiny Legendary team like they're a VGC champ?! : D Man that'd be hilarious to watch her squealing over every time her mons get fainted I bet she'd say "Don't worry I have MORE Revives! You're the BEST Neighbour!" or whatever
