Good idea but with only 18 amps most amps can only push a tiny portion of power from that power supply before they would clip, I'm trying to find a power supply to fully use the amp to its potential, nonetheless great idea for temporary use or for a smaller system
I f**ked up. I have a power supply with red and black wire... Fed the red to the 12v and connected the REM to the 12v... Then fed the black wire to the GND slot of the amp... Everytime I switch it on it heats up. The red and green light are not coming on😢
I used an old Xbox 360 power brick. I have 3 of them connected to my amp. I just wired all the yellow ones together and all blacks together. It is unreal how well it works. I use a on/off switch to turn the bricks all on or off at the same time. I also have a capacitor right before the amp for added power
@@UltimateDIY what, I never heard about connecting power bricks in pararell and I thought it will never work , but this is sick :D .Do you want to say , that you having 30amps of power ?
Salut, pot sa te întreb dacă știi cum se elimină sunetul in boxe de la sursa de curent? Aud in boxe un bâzâit,bănuiesc că vine de la sursa de curent , sursa de curent la priza nu are împământare. Mulțumesc anticipat
500w power supply might just have 150w on the 12v rail. Keep in mind you are only using 12v and the 500w are calculated for all the voltages of the psu summed up.
I know this is an old comment but, when I was experimenting with my car audio and desktop PSU, I found the PSU would handle a lot more load after I made sure to separate PSU outputs to each component. Hard drive output to headunit, cpu output to sub amp, and video card output to mids/highs amp. I have a 300 watt rms mono amp for the sub, a 300 watt rms 4 channel amp bridged for 2 coaxial 5x7 speakers, and a head unit running off a 750 watt psu. The PSU was over 10 years old when I built my stereo and it's been going for about 5 years.
Yes, your PSU probably has a few 12V rails. Sadly cheap PSUs only have 1 or 2, so even if you separate the wires, they actually connect to the same source inside the PSU.
hello, im new to electronics, can i connect a 12v ac wall adapter to a speaker that have a 12v dc (cutting the cable and connecting positive and negative to 12v dc terminal of the speaker)?
Hi ! thank you very much indeed for your excellent video and very useful. I will look for one but i would like to cut the cable open and connect the bar wires. I hope to be able to do that. Anyway do you think that the amp chassis should be grounded to the mains ground for safety ? Thanks a lot again, gino
@@UltimateDIY sorry it's me again ... do you think that this cable can help the connection ? www.amazon.it/dp/B01DV1Z32Y/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_KFmvFb3V8R1JK it seems that some pins are connected already I see only yellow and black wires going to the 6 pin plug I could group them together to have full power In the meantime i have bought one DA-2 but not connected still. It looks very serious. Kind regards, gino
@@UltimateDIY Hi thanks a lot indeed. I will follow your instructions then I have received one just some days ago It looks very serious Dell is a really great brand Thanks again and kind regards, gino
How can I know the amp to watt requirement? Got a 2000w amplifier. At some point a car for the price of scrap is cheaper than the electrical components XD
A van? 😄 I would probably use some car batteries with chargers connected to them. Car batteries give the instant juice and the chargers fill them up once you stop listening. But at 3600W you need a bunch of them, so that will be fun to keep inside the house 🤭
Hi. I have a similar issue to the question with the 500w amplifier. I bought the dell charger and when I plug the same two wires that you have on your video into the amps + and -, it shuts down the charger immediately. My multimeter reads 12.35 volts however so power is coming through. Any thoughts? I’ve tried it on another 12v smaller unit and it shuts off right away also. Thanks for any advice!
You might have got a defective one :( But keep in mind, even a good supply is not able to handle 500W. You need a server power supply for that and car audio capacitors for peaks.
if i connect 12v+ REM the red led for PRT (which means there is a bad connection or wiring) after multiple tries the power goes on and the woofer works, but is kind of random i tried even be reversing polarity and going up with the voltage same results.
Or you can buy an 3D Printer Power Supply, they are very cheap like 15-20 USD on China Sites. I also got an HP old Laptop or PC brick of similar size, it has 19.5V and 230W so around 10A at output.
I'm quite affraid of chinese no name (or copy) power supplies. They don't really respect safety standards. Could be ok, but could also burn the house down. It's a lottery.
your best chance to get the power you really need to push a automotive amp in your home is use a 12 volt battery with a power supply. even doing it that way you wont have very good sound for long periods of time. even a alternator cant keep up with most amps 100% for long periods of time. put a multimeter on it when playing it. you will see it keep dropping.
That I don't know. 500W at 12V is about 40A. Probably only server power supplies can do this. Also, you might also need to use dome car audio capacitors for peak power.
Actually this is way less dangerous than other variants that people use. It has short, overcurrent, overvoltage, overtemperature and many other protections. Simple transformers that people use don't have anything. Also, if somebody is unable to properly use such a simple device, then they should not try to use a car amp at home.
