This is why they should have pets in nursing homes. They take people out of themselves and their own worries. They bring such joy and in some cases are a reason for living. If they have no one else to kiss an cuddle them a pet always will.

Well said. I love my dog so much. Imagine the stress of having to go to a nursing home and give up a beloved pet. The person loses their home and a beloved companion

Theres alot of Work place health and safety reason that they aren’t allowed to bring pets. Most people in a nursing home don’t have the ability to care for the animals fully anymore, and the staff have enough work. Thankfully, alot of great organizations have animals that they take around to nursing homes.

Sadly, they are often a health and safety regulation issue. Not to mention, these homes are so understaffed the PSWs simply don't have the time to care for the animals if the resident has mobility or mental issues. I'd love to see them in care homes for this reason alone... but there are simply too many barrier in the way.

Super agree. It also gives them a routine, something to schedule themselves internally. My dogs are living with my grandma due to unfortunate circumstances in my life, and she’s built everyday around making sure they’re taken care of.

Some facilities do allow. I worked in places that have facility owned pets and places were residents had their own pets. Their just not allowed in dining rooms but other than that. I seen dogs, cats, and bird owners.

My favourite was the man who had to check the backseat of the car. I love his reaction when he saw the puppy in the kennel cage. ~Grown man to little boy in 0.0001 seconds! So sweet and endearing! Thanks for this!!! 😹

I love the way his hands automatically went to his face and he keeps his hands together even when they're not covering half his face as if he's just been told not to touch anything! Like the first time this has happened and every time since, the hands just go up on their own and and come down remaining together like he is subconsciously recalling the first time the orders were given to him by someone in charge. I can see him as a little boy, looking at puppies he was brought to see, not knowing yet that he was about to get to pick out his very first pet dog. A milestone in a child's life! And his reaction is the same each time because it's pure and from the heart.

It does not matter whether its a dog or a cat or even a bird, a pet is one of the most important things for elderly people to have in their lives, especially those who live alone and do not have many visitors. It gives them something not only to care for and focus on but also a companion to talk to and spend time with so that they don't feel lonely or left out.

I know; it makes me sad to think about how many of these puppies were given over to kill shelters after some family member decided a tiny, energetic ball of fur was a good idea to buy for someone who can hardly walk, let alone walk a dog. Dreadful idea.

Except that most dogs given to old people end up in shelters because they can’t handle them or even walk them. If you’re going to get a dog for an old person, check that they even want one first, and get them a senior dog who already did all the running around and just needs a slow, quiet life like their owner. It just typically doesn’t end well otherwise, and this is why puppy mills are still rampant and so many dogs end up in kill shelters after being given as a gift.

I understand. I love these videos but it also makes me nervous when elderly people get puppies because puppies need a lot of activity and it's hard work to keep up with them. For an old person I would honestly get them a cat. Cats are very relaxed companions that are very low maintenance. And if you get an old one, they'll probably just lay around all day. They're very good company and low stress. :)

Olivia yea, just don’t get a kitten 😂 I got some kittens and they were really high maintenance. One of them tried to tear up and eat everything he saw. He’s about a year and a half now too and he still does that. So definitely would just get her an old cat.

Yes, I love seeing people's reactions in these videos but I'm always a little worried about the dogs - both the puppies and any other dogs that are there. The poor puppies are handed to someone who is shrieking or crying and it scares them... And the other dogs don't get to be properly introduced to the puppy.

These pet will be so spoiled! It’s wonderful happiness! It is my dream to have a maltipoo but i am bedridden in palliative care, in my daughter’s house and she doesn’t want a dog because she is herself in a wheelchair. She works from home as expert in a big international compagnie, so we can see each other all day. We have a cat, a young feral rescue, loving and sleeping all day on my bed. But a mini dog is my dream. She gave me an interactive dog but i became annoyed by the lack of love and feelings. I have also a young guinea pig, who love to cuddle and play with me. So i am not abandoned but it’s just a dream. Being old and dying slowly is not easy.

I’m so sad that our parents didn’t surprise us like this when we got a dog (they basically told us that he was a family friends dog and then were like “actually he’s yours”) That kind of memory would have been amazing.

I am now 84 years and in 1985 I wrote a Programme for the Bicentennial Celebrations 1988, adopted by Melville City Council and a wonderful Law Enforcement Officer Kevin Francis, to teach LOVE OF PETS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION in Schools, then asked to visit Nursing Homes and Hospitals, Alzheimer Hostels (Where a wonderful Gentleman sang perfectly and beautifully ‘When I Grow Too Old To Dream’ (happy tears were shed also by the Staff, who didn’t know he could sing u til that day - Name INTERACTION EDUCATION & THERAPY INC. I trained a Shih Tzu called A.CH. LENG ELEANOR RIGBY To come with me as a”Hairy Human”. I wrote a book with Care Activities (not published sadly) and She broke barriers in the Classroom as never before. What fun We had and experiences to remember💗💗. (Only photographs to keep in that era, I don’t know how to add some of them here).

So sweet...but I can't help but wonder, why give an elderly couple a puppy? So many mid to older dogs need homes, are already potty trained etc,,,I love this joy but so wonder who is going to take care of the babies for walkies, poops, clean up after them? Enjoy hopefully the families will gather round and support raising these gorgeous furry critters

Ok. Not being a downer but as far as getting elderly people dogs...particularly small ones, please just remember that older people are frequently not as firm or steady on their feet as they used to be and their balance may not be as good as it was. Small dogs can be very clingy and want attention a lot so therefore there is additional risk of falls and injury due to tripping over dogs. This is a common source of broken hips and arms and concussion in older patients admitted to Accident and Emergency. It’s a wonderful thought, love and companionship but PLEASE think first whether your elderly relative or friend can physically cope.

Are all dogs for sale in the U.S. very expensive? If you like dogs, just come here in the Philippines.Most of the households here with female dogs distribute or give puppies for free.haha You don't even need adoption papers. haha.I got two dogs from a neighbor and friend.I didn't call them.They called me.
