Bro the way you literally went right into the info and not just gassing up the first 1-2mins of the video is such a breath of fresh air! I started 14 like 7ish years ago, and just got back into it. There is SO much I need to learn.
Best setting I've found is in Character Configuration > Control Settings > Mouse > Mouse Wheel Settings You can set the mouse wheel to scroll through both the party and enemy list with either shift, alt, or control. Much faster than trying to click on something in a raid, important when there's a time-sensitive heal or interrupt that needs to be done.
The most important thing about the tab targeting is that ignore depth will target everything on your screen from left to right, while cone will target things in front of you from closest to farthest.
Despite playing for 10 years and nearing 1k days of playtime this video actually made me go into the settings and disable things that started bothering me for quite some time!
1000 days of playtime and not knowing how to use the website after each patches to read out notes and what's added/changed? have you just been running a useless PC AFKing in limsa?
4:20 The one small disadvantage to having the "press twice" option enabled is for spells like WHM's bell which can be triggered again once placed. So if you're spamming your key to place the bell, you may accidentally also end up using it early.
this was mitigated in an earlier patch by having the skill unactionable for like 1 second after you drop it, you have to really be spamming it without paying attention for a while for that to be an issue.
@@milekmalik8368 The button on the hot bar where the spell is assigned. As a WHM, if Asylum is on 2, press it once for the large reticle to display, then press 2 again to land it rather than clicking on the ground.
I switch between the settings on the fly as I have two different macro buttons. One turns Show All and the other is Show Limited for things like alliance raids.
I wish Summoner had the ability to choose summon size by player. I'd love to have my own summons be set to large to be as accurate to the primals as possible, but I don't want that to be for ALL summoners on my screen, just me.
For number 6, you can also create a macro to snap the camera angle to certain angles without panning it slowly. the macro is simply /tiltcamera (insert number). and it ranges from 0-100.
Just use the mouse to pan the camera. You can whip the camera as slowly or as quickly as you like. Hold down the right mouse button and move your hand. Assign strafe buttons to the two buttons on the left of the mouse and you can strafe while panning the camera. All movement and camera direction is 100% controlled my the mouse on my setup. All combat and jumping is the keyboard. There is no faster way to move around in combat.
The absolute best tweak I made was splitting up the Target Info in the hud config. Making your target's cast bar really big and right in the center of the screen makes it so much easier to see boss mechanics and respond accordingly. As a Sage, I can see when the boss is about to hit us with a party/raid-wide attack and cast Eukrasian Prognosis and Kerachole to prepare for it (or Panhaima for those multi-hit raid-wide attacks.)
Thank you for that targeting explanation. I recently came back to ff14 to play Endwalker. I had upgraded to an ultrawide monitor during my break and now have this constant issue with things I don't wanna target getting targeted. Ultrawide gives me extra horizontal vision which means I often target some mob on the other side of the planet. Will definitely be using the cone targeting now.
So I have a bad eye, my right one. I had acid splashed in it which burned my cornea but i healed from that. Later on i got a tiny piece of metal dead center so now my right eye is really blurry. This makes it so hard to find the mouse pointer. That sonar will help me out so much, thank you for that tip!
Wow, the targeting stuff actually makes a huge difference for me. I was so annoyed by how targeting worked in this game. Thank you! Also, I was wondering how people made their summoner pets so big, so thank you for that as well.
This ground targeting circle limitation thing helps me out immensely. I never used the ninja teleport skill cuz it was always a pain to set up the proper distance but I couldnt do so in snap choices. this makes it so its always at its max range if need be and I can use it whenever now. Thank you!
For the battle effects on, I created to macro buttons that allow me to turn other player battle effects up and down between show all and show limited depending on situation and on the fly. I love seeing all of the battle effects, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming to see all of them whe you are in higher end content like raids.
With this kind of stuff, might be worth putting out a new video like this going over stuff anyway even if it weren't for the new features added since, if it helps get this info out to the people that could use it. I watched your old video going over some of this way back when I started playing back in august, but I realize now that I had forgotten to actually fiddle with some of the settings you talked about, so it's been a helpful refresher.
I knew about all of these except mouse sonar. While I won't need it too often, occasionally I lose my cursor in especially chaotic fights and this'll be great to help me get situated again. Thanks!
So that's what "/petsize all small" does. FC members were talking about that the other day, but I wasn't able to get clarification because I might have been in a duty or something. Anyway, that's sooo helpful because I was just wishing I had a way to hide summoners' egis. Thanks! I'm gonna try some of the other settings too.
For role sort, you can also change the job order to match buff priority, like having SAM at the top of the dps section if youre playing dragoon or dancer
I believe the game automatically sorts DPS with melee on top and ranged on the bottom by default. But yeah, this could be handy if you want to prioritize certain classes above others. Or if you're in a raiding static and want to ensure where each player is going to be in your party list.
My preffered alternative to the mouse sonar: there is an option in System Configuration to increase the size of the cursor. With the sonar I couldn't find a convenient keybind that wasn't already used for something else, so I still had trouble finding my cursor fast enough when I needed it With the Large mouse size (only the first size up from ), I never even lost the mouse cursor again.
Role sorting DPS to put those able to also rez on top is great if you also use a rez "all" macro that tries 2 -> 3 -> 4, etc or just keeping them in one area to always go to is beneficial in trying to recover and avoid a wipe. I also tend to sort roles caster to melee for easier selection of card target when playing AST. I'd love to enable all, but there really should be a setting to have aoe warning areas take precedence or similar so they don't become not visible behind the other effects. Its the only reason I have it disabled as I miss way too many when all are enabled.
Lots of option I had went through but lots that I had missed like the bigger cooldowns and the targeting, now I fully understand this really recaps everything very well explained especially for my basic levels of english :) loved it!
Thanks. I already configured pretty much most of these, but the mouse sonar was really nice. My eyes are pretty bad and when I'm tired it happened quite often that I just lost my mouse cursor. Having it on middle click is a really nice addition.
The only time I've found a problem with auto target is ranged physical DPS where I'm just taking out a few mobs for quest or hunt log and I then have to spend an extra few moments killing a mob I didn't want to target in the first place, but that is literally a skill issue. If playing controller, I'd recommend finding a good camera angle for combat and making a macro to change your camera angle when you're in duty or fates. /tiltcamera [subcommand] →Adjust 3rd person camera angle settings. >>Subcommands: [angle number] Set 3rd person camera angle to the specified setting. Settings available: 0-100.
One other nice thing about tab targeting. It always cycles through targets from left to right. If you however press shift-tab it cycles from right to left.
I personally kept Unassigned slots on but THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing that menu so I could disable "display hotbar number" and "enable hotbar cycling button" I cannot tell you how many times I've gone to click my first spell and accidentally overshot my cursor and cycled to another hotbar
ive played around 3 years now with about 7k hours sunk, and you solved a couple issues i always had that i never knew had solutions already. thank you thank you o/
Changing either engaged enemy or DPS role colors to be different is pretty essential though because by default they're the same color red and it makes it hard to see the enemies among all your melee in big trash pulls.
Been playing for like 3-4yrs now and most of these I had no idea about! The pet size is a BIG one; so many times I can't see in raids because of peoples' summons. Probably the most important, to me, is the Mouse Sonar! I've been doing a bunch of alliance raids and with everything going (I did reduce some of the visual actions), I'd often lose my mouse cursor. I was wondering if something like this existed recently, and here I stumble up on you video. Many thanks!
legacy controls are where it's at, i was very happy to learn about this probably from your last video. i think i'm gonna setup the sonar thing, one of the perils of playing at 4k i find is it's EXTREMELY easy to lose the mouse and it's pretty annoying when it happens mid combat
As a NIN main, the 'Limit ring movement to targeting range' option is pretty big for me. I've dealt with it this entire time with no problem, but I feel like movement will feel a bit better with that enabled going forward. Thank you.
One more tips for Movement Types section. Keybind > Movement > Put A/D key on Strafe Left/Right instead of Turn Left/Right So your character would straightly move to left right instead of turn around
I know this is weird and definitely personal preference, but when doing combat I get a weird anxiety when I dont have a target so if you are in an encounter that has pyretic and don't want to remove the target you can sheathe your weapon and it will accomplish a similar effect, you just have to remember to wait out the pyretic effect before hitting another weaponskill/spell. I believe the default keybinding is z and for me this is easier to reach than trying to press esc.
Changing camera angle is very helpful especially when you are in actual duty because of wide range vision. The only downside is when RP because the skill UI covering almost half of your WoL legs. Many recommend around 65/100 or more If you can make change with macro, please share it. It's quality of life feature we need
My recommendation is a separate hud layout for rp. I personally have different layouts for instances, pvp, and rp/exploring. I then have different camera tilt macros set up for whatever situation.
Thank you for the SMN minion size... people need reminding that it's on their settings, not the summoners. I'm a SMN main and I can't tell you how often some one in an Alliance raid rants abut our pets being so big and they can't see. I wish the default was small, or it changed to small if you aren't on the SMN class... but that's just me. Good video, I might have to try some of these settings tomorow (it's bed time now)
I've been playing for 10 years, and I never knew about the second tip. It was so frustrating, that I'm just embarrassed that I never tried to look for a way to fix it. Thank you so much for the helpful video!
I think myself as experienced player and i have been playing FFXIV little over 3 years now and still there was things i did not know. Im gonna post this to my FC discordd server so that the all sprout members doesnt have to wait for years before finding these quality of life options!
I'm sure it's been mentioned already being the release of this video was 6 months ago, but it is entirely possible to move around you camera angle on console similar to the way you did @ 7:20 (just in case it wasn't mentioned or someone else was wondering)
Sorting party list by role is pretty important. If you are DPS and you use the default option the list will be ordered YOU > tanks > healers > DPS. For this round of raiding in particular where you have to constantly check party debuffs by role, you'd want to sort your list so that all members are lined up by role.
One annoyance of the legacy camera is that it tends to angle you upward or downward while in flight and you have to land somewhere and take flight again to cancel it. "Auto-target according to priority" honestly just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen so I'd rather keep it turned off. The "enable clicking on field" option sounds inconvenient to not have enabled tbh, and specifically because it doesn't apply only to enemies. And I actually find it useful to have unassigned slots showing because it lets me know exactly how many I have available if I want to add in an emote, a macro, or whatever else. Other than those, I agree with most of your recommendations.
Awesome, I actually went through and used all these recommended settings. I have been playing for many years and didn't have any of them enabled which I was surprised about. Maybe I did at one point but reinstalls of the game reset things to default. Thank you for the video
The mouse sonar, holy crap??? gonna change my life, the amount of times i lose sight of my mouse is insane, especially with multiple screens i had no idea that existed omg.
You're so zoomed in I scrolled down to the comments multiple times instinctively trying to zoom out lol. Great video those these are useful settings for people to know. Even brought up a few I've never noticed before
I have been wishing for the ability to make macros to just attack the closest target when nothing is selected for years like WoW has. Now I feel dumb seeing it has been an option. This is going to make my life so much easier thank you so much for this video! So many things I am going to use from it.
I knew most of these, but mouse sonar might unironically be a good option for me. I sometimes just completely lose track of where my cursor is in the heat of combat.
I want to come back to the game but I'm waiting for them to condense the combo abilities like in PvP. There is no need to have 3 different skills. A man can wish
I don't personally like any of the tab targeting in this game and I switched it to using the 'Confirm' option instead as it targets what's in line of site exactly to my character - and is nice cause it works for npc's as well as items to interact with. (I also changed the keybind to my thumb button and use the click off option to cancel my choices. Took a bit to get used due to ingrained muscle memory but I've had a genuinely finer experience with it.)
I didn't see the video yet but I need to write first THANK YOU for not go roundabout with the presentation "you read the title, you know why are you here so let's go" sublime
holy shit thank you for the pet size command. I despise how big summoner's pets are by default. It's insane they aren't considered battle effects. Especially when they aren't your own.
as a healer or tank, i suggest putting dps on a different color, because red is also the default color of the engaged enemy.. also different from your alliance color.. so i put my dps on yellow cause my alliance is on orange..
That clicking option is a god send, so many times have I been in a fight and suddenly stopped targeting the boss because I clicked to move the camera which made me lose a gcd before noticing.
Excuse me but i shall have my Bahamut as large as possible thank you very much. Jokes aside, this was a nice refresher as i lost all my configurations recently and was trying to get everything back into shape.
One thing that drove me crazy... Now we have Auto Umbrealla, so if it's raining, out pops the parasol. Nice!. However, by default the Hotbar 1 gets replaced by the fashion Accessory bar. There's an option in Character Setting to stop that.
