These are my favorite questions to ask in interviews to gauge EQ and get to the heart of a candidate's capacity for vulnerability, growth, feedback, and emotional intelligence. Plus, I stand on the couch. What are your favorite questions to ask in interviews around EQ? Share them in the comments.

Congratulation on the new format! I like it. Great questions, Galen. Makes me think about how I would answer them! For example: what is the worst feedback? Probably someone I had to work with in a performance improvement plan. There have been several! A question I like is: "Describe a time when you resolved a conflict at work." Empathy in action.

That's rad, Tim 😎 That's a great question, and so glad you dig the new format! Empathy in action is so, so important for determining dynamics on a team.

loved it! thanks. One thing I do in an interview is "accidentally" gently kick a garbage can over, its pre set up with just paper. I say "oh excuse me" and get on the floor and pick it up. If they get on the floor with me and help, vs just watch me do it alone, tells me a lot about that person.

How terrible of an action is that?! Instead of being honest with the human you ought to be having a conversation with, you play mind tricks. You are right, it does tell a lot about you. I hope you will be better.

I have heard thru a couple of jobs that every so often we have to re-hire ourselves, would you share some questions you would ask yourself?

Oh, I love that! Here’s a few that come to mind: “Knowing everything that you know about this job and this organization, if you didn’t already have this job right now, and you were offered it would you accept it?” “Are there any tasks or parts of your job that are getting in the way of you doing what you’re really great at and totally crushing it here?” “Based on how you’re performing in this current role, would you hire you and pay you the same amount to be doing what you’re doing now?”

So I can't work cos I'm an introvert with no emotional intelligence

Being an introvert doesn’t mean that you have low EQ:) Also if you’re aware that you don’t have much EQ then you probably have more than you think, plus it’s something you can increase, if you want to.

Myth: "you can teach anyone to do anything in the universe." Why cannot we be honest about EI/EQ and not have to lie about other things?

I am a believer that if someone is interested and willing, they can learn just about any technical task or skill over time. Yes, what I said is a generalization which means of course there are outliers and exceptions to that statement. The main point is that I think EQ is extremely hard to develop and teach versus technical skills :) I see that generalization didn't resonate with you here.

@@GalenEmanueleShiftYes Generalization/Stereotypes/Extremes always fail :) I'll have to share some engineering formulae with ya. EQ is much easier.
