This list is actually very advantageous to newer openings, which is why you saw a lot of them were mostly from 2015 to today. Because most of the older shows were harder to find their songs on the internet besides the sites you watched the episodes from. You also have to remember that spotify and streaming in terms of its popularity is still a relatively new thing, which is why newer anime dominates heavily in the streaming department.

Plus if the songs were uploaded to RU-vid, before RU-vid Music and Spotify, it is possible they have been copywrite striked and deleted, so those streams do not count.

Exactly. There's a lot of older OPs that would be on this list if they had official versions on youtube and spotify. The fact that there's no Dragon Ball OPs, or One piece op1, Sailor Moon, Bleach op1 is pretty damning lol. There's many more I could think of too that would probably make the list. It's a fun list but Luke saying you can't argue this shows that he's still an anime noob haha

@@GOTGames I think you missed the point of their comment. Yes, you're correct that Spotify is close to 20 years old, but it wasn't very popular back then compared to now. In 2012 it had around 20 million active users vs the 615 million that it has now. So yes, the data is heavily skewed in favor of newer openings.

@@notsern9288 spotify's library and offerings also have increased hugely as it has grown, but lots of big anime songs were not available on it at all until relatively recently and those that were first offered years after the show came out are usually at a disadvantage

It's actually kinda unfortunate that we'll never get a super accurate list. Depending on the producers, uploading an opening to youtube will get easily knocked down, unless it's a cover or something. Some openings don't have official youtube videos, some are region locked on spotify. To remove some additional recency bias, maybe a list like this that also incorperates sales? Not sure how that would work... For instance, the youtube counter for Renai Circulation actually comes from a cover song by namirin. They even played the cover instead of the original song. There have been videos of the original, but they get taken down after some time, and the only official video is a compilation. It is on spotify though, so those numbers are pretty accurate. On the other hand, we have No Game No Life's opening, which is region locked on spotify. So even though it has crazy numbers on RU-vid, it cant even begin to compete on spotify. Then of course the additional layer of cd purchases and illegal downloads - which are pretty common, especially for older shows. Pretty much all sorts of data collection for this stuff will give more recent shows an edge. Not to say that they wouldn't win anyways.

Yeah, imagine older show with the illegal downloads, since long time ago probably I've heard ten thousand times of Zankoku. Like I'm old, I started watching Eva when it was just completed, then download the illegal songs. Those time with Rurouni, Inuyasha, Gundam, Vandread, Digimon, etc. Imagine how many person was the same as me back then.

Serial Experiments Lain has kind of the same vibe as Ghost in the Shell, its basicaly short story about Lain exploring philosophical topics such as reality, identity, and communication. It really shows how social media "bends" us. Which is really interesting, considering when the anime was made

Avatar is "the greatest cartoon ever" if you saw it when you were young and hadn't seen many shonen anime before. It's good, but it's really just a mish-mash of tropes from shonen anime. Seemingly because the creators wanted to make "an anime" but were limiting themselves to tropes associated with popular anime due to them thinking anime is a genre.

I would actually think that newer songs/OPs have a bigger advantage since more and more people are using the internet and how mainstream anime is becoming. Also, since older songs have been out longer, people already heard them and are less likely to hear them again unless they are from ultra popular anime Naruto and Pokemon

7:20 I think that the best fights in the history of anime are Naruto/Shippuden as a whole. I'm not particularly a fan of that anime, but the hand-to-hand combat choreography is just perfect and exciting, like never seen before in any other.

He also needs to watch *Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex* because it is much, much, much better than the live action movie. Not even dissing the movie, which was ok as far as live action movies go, but that's just such a good show. Also a product of the early 2000s which means the retrofuturism vibe with that sucker is strong. I do think the tachikomas are amazingly relevant today though.

I think he was saying she doesn't come up as much in requests as he'd like, likely because she's only apparently done 4 anime songs so far. 2 for Domestic Girlfriend, one for the newer Urusei Yatsura, and one for Record of Ragnarok II. And the last anime I've never heard of before. She has done non-anime music though apparently. (Not to be confused with Minami Kuribayashi, who is a different person who also at one point used the stage name Minami.)

I think that a reaction to some NieR: Replicant osts are a must though. The English Pokemon op is easily the most influential English/ localized anime opening of all time. It was so good that pretty much every country outside Japan used a version of that opening instead of the Japanese one. (it also helps that pokemon was so heavily localized to begin with pretty much everywhere localized the names of the Pokemon and characters as well, which was good cause it would have been completely unmarketable in english and spanish speaking countries otherwise)

Great list and great reaction. Some comments. -Haikyuu is great but everyone and their mother watches it as the sports anime to watch so personally I'm a bit tired out from Haikyuu reactions. I would rather watch Kuroko no Basket, a hidden gem like One Outs, or an unconventional sports show like Chihayafuru. -For horror Another is a classic. It's basically final destination the anime. Personally, Shiki would be my pick for horror. If you want horror comedy you need to watch the English dub for Ghost Storries at some point. Its legendary. -It's crazy how popular Yoasobi has become in just a few years. Every opening them made is on this list. Even if Idol never came out, Kaibutsu from Beastars would still be top 2 then (also my favorite Yoasobi opening). -The RU-vid plays for the Bakemonogatari op are from the cover I believe that everyone thinks is official since it sounds similar to the original and the original is so hard to find. That reminds me, were you going to react to the last bit of Monogatari openings (season 2 openings) and the endings, or does it need to win a vote again?

I did not expect Fire Force - Inferno be No.05 and it being over 1 billion views is crazy!!! I knew Kaikai Kitan by Eve was in the top 10 same with Idol but... I did not expect them to be No.01 and No.02 Crazy how the anime popularity is blowing up and I do am happy about that! And having a difference of 700 milion from No.05 to No.01 is an gigantic jump like omg.

RU-vid counts the times a song is integrated into videos or shorts, so that's one of the reasons why Mashle op 2 and Oshi no ko op grew so fast.

5:40 straight up songs have more listens/watches on average simply because people see opening/ending in the anime episode itself, so there is no need to them to watch video on youtube after that, they will just listen to the song itself or will watch episode that has opening/ending.

If you wanna watch a good horror anime I recommend Shiki personally, it's quite unconventional both in its writing and its artstyle but its truly terrifying and has some great music. It is 24 episodes and actually takes a bit of an approach of not following a centralized main character as much and more telling a story about what happens to a town.

For a sports anime, though I haven't seen a lot, I would most likely choose Ping Pong The Animation. It's one of my favorites in terms of animation and writing, and I like how it gets exponentially better with each episode.

I am really surprised that Idol shot up to almost 2 BILLION streams is such a short amount of time. Also gonna be honest, a little sad that Pokemon wasn't higher on the list, I was SURE it was gonna be in the top 10. Best fights in anime? Hmmm... hard to say if its the best but I think Mob Psycho 100 II deserves some recognition here, some of the battle sequences are absolutely mind blowing and revolutionary even. Haikyuu is probably the best "go to" sports anime all things considered. But Kuroko no Basket is also up there if you don't mind it having older artstyle and being a bit less grounded in reality.

The only anime I can think of right off the top of my head with better fight animations than FATE/ series is the fights in the later episodes of One Piece. at some point they just get absolutely INSANE. In my opinion too, you're missing out a TON of some insane action fights with the top Chinese anime (called donghua). Fight Breaks Sphere/Battle Through the Heavens, Apotheosis, Throne of Seal, Soul Land & Soul Land 2, ESPECIALLY Swallowed Star.... The graphics are 3D but actually insanely good. Especially Swallowed Star. I swear the budget they used for that is 100x any Japanese anime... the details and fights are unbelievable. In ALL of those, as soon as there is a good fight, you will never NOT have chills. EDIT: The sound track and openings/endings of those are great too.

I would believe that the reason that Yorushika made the list is because they have been making amazing music for years before they got a song in an anime, hell i think they have only had 2 features ever. and the frieren op aint even close to their most popular song. so its no wonder that the song would be a hit. heck the only reason im thinking of starting the show was because i only just recently found out that the song was an OP i feel like most of us yorushika fans just thought it was another banger single that we were gifted from the group.

(A sport where you have to fight with your butt and breasts) 16:43 - Tbh, it's because MHA has 7 seasons, and Naruto is ~800 episodes, so they have a billion of OPs. 19:22 - Actually a really good anime. If I remember correctly, it was sponsored by the Japanese government, to inspire hikikomoris (shut-ins) to work out. The anime ACTUALLY gives you GOOD tips on working out.

Wow....Really dont know people have such taste in music. Ever since i started buying songs in mora (Japan song website) instead of using streaming platform, i find this list very "eek" not say it fair just overhyped songs in anime. Is either long running show / newer anime with overhyped artist like LiSA, yoasobi,yorushika..etc ( i dont dislike or think i'm better than others just cause i dont listen to overhyped or people bandwagon the artist) Sad to see so many good opening, ending and inserts song have been forgotten by all the newer songs for example: Koubou by Mami Kawada / Honjitsu, Mankai Watashi Iro! by Hinagiku Katsura / Sign by Ray / infinity by BACK-ON

Agreed, the sheer volume and consistency of jawdropping sakuga animation found accross the fate series is second to none, there's obviously many individual sequences in other anime that one can argue are better than fate but nothing else even comes close to its combined quantity and quality of animation

The grittiest, most real feeling fight scenes between people without super powers can be found in the OVAs "Kite" and" Mezzo Forte". That stuff leaves you struggling to breathe.
