Lay Zhang is actually a singer, rapper, dancer, actor, model, composer, producer, lyricist, CEO of his own company and a member of EXO.

LAY is the only Chinese member of one of Kpop's biggest boygroups ever called EXO that holds the world record for all time fastest sold-out concert and they are also known as Kpop's Vocal Kings. Though inactive due to political issues bet. China and Korea, Lay is still an EXO member and an all rounder at that. Lay Zhang is very big on broadening his ‘arsenal’. He loves to learn new type of dances and different style music that’s why each song you hear from him is different. On a dance show he asked a contestant to teach him a silk dance and see if it could be merged with his type of dance. He loves to grow! This music was filmed in China biggest film studio and the video cost 1.4 million dollars to make and took 6 months i belive and the crazy part it that it came from his own pocket, in other words dude is rich af. His latest album which came out the first sold 1.5 million copies in 7 minutes, and before Baekhyun (another exo member) released his solo album last year Lay was the artist with the best selling album in Korea and the crazy part being that it was in Chinese. The story in the "Lit" MV, Lay said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.) Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are unforgiving conditions. Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful then you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc. The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down. now that you’ve mentioned Hua Chenyu in the video, i have a little fun fact for you! Lay Zhang used to sent Hua Chenyu the songs he composed and asked for Hua’s opinion. they’re close friends! although they’re so different (Lay is specialized in his dancing, producing, etc and Hua with his powerful vocal, versatility and a musical genius who hears and breathes music), they are incredibly big in china, and knew each other that well!

The Chinese character that is pronounced LIT means Lotus, which is a revered in China for it's beauty and ability to withstand brutal elements. When He says I am the LIT, he means I am the Lotus Flower.

I find it interesting that Western reactors literally only have one living western artist to compare Asian artists to : Chris Brown. Lol. There are thousands of Kpop and Cpop, Jpop, etc artists who can easily out sing, out dance, out rap, out perform Chris Brown. And btw, Chris and Lay are close in age. 31 and 29. So Lay be having the same dance and rap influences that Chris had. Although the reactors didn’t actually say Lay must have been influenced by Chris -they insinuated it. Like most Western reactors that have no clue of the extraordinary talent coming out of Asia. I’m not @ these reactors but I want to clear it up. Asian artist are their own creations. No current Western artist is any different from an Asian artist. As kids, They listen to and watched all the pop/rap greats and got their influences the same way.

He is in the kpop group called EXO, they were around since 8 April 2012, he's the only chinese member left in the group (3 of the other chinese member left, sadly) Lay is, im not kidding nor exaggerating, the biggest celebrity in China. His group, EXO, is one of the top kpop group (literally). But he went on hiatus since 2018 because of the tension between china and korea (since then, hes been working on his solo career) hes an all rounder, but his position in EXO would be the main dancer, he sings and raps too! He does everything, you name it. I would recommend you to hear his song called honey, namanana, goodbye christmas(theres english version too), sheep! Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (in Peking opera costume) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon is the spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch help pass along the spirit. Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. They also mock at his dream of bringing Chinese music to the world, saying that all of his hard work and effort will go in vain. This song is Lay’s answer to their bully. “No one beat me down, I walk my own path, I’m the lit”.

Hi, it's very nice of you guys to like and reply the comments. I followed your channel because of Hua Chen Yu and I happened to watch this reaction and I am surprised you reacted to Lay too. Lay and Hua are true great musicians. Lay is an incredible dancer and even choreographer while Hua doesn't dance at all. But Lay isnt a strong vocalist as Hua. They are both amazing producers and have their own style of music. Btw, I am also a huge fan of EXO, a kpop group. They are R&B and pop/EDM style with the best vocalists in kpop. Thank you :)

Lay has debuted since about 2011-2012. He used to be one of the two lead dancers in the originally 12 boy-group Exo. Thereafter due to reasons, three of the Chinese members left leaving him as the last Chinese member of the group. However, he then could not participate in the activities with Exo due to political reasons between the Korean and Chinese government which was such a pity he had to stay away but he has not officially left the group yet. Lay has hoped to return to the group but it is unclear when he can do so. Meanwhile he developed his solo career and gained more recognition since the release of his first album in 2017. Following, Lay became more passionate in music and being talented and composing and producing, Lay went on the release more albums. At the same time, Lay also started acting but he still utilised most of his time making music. He is very talented in this area and his dancing also became very good making him one of the most sought after all-rounder artist in China. He is also known for trying to promote Mando-pop to the world which he has been quite successful, so he most of his songs are in both English and Chinese languages.
