What's your favorite spot in Casco Viejo?

Admittedly this is a BIG challenge worthy of Big Will. And you did OK. Everyone’s opinion is just that, but I can take some issue. You left off the three best restaurants in Casco according to just about every food critic who has ever been here…Fonda Lo Que Hay, named one of the 50 best restaurants in Latin America and Santa Rita and Aya La Vida, whose chef is considered maybe THE best in LATAM. You hit some of the more tourist centric places like Casablanca and Casa Casco, but I also thought the focus on the rooftops was misguided since these are the WORST places to go if you actually want to have some dinner conversation and don’t want your plates and silverware jumping off the table all night to the incessant and deafening booming of some truly awful house music. Like I said, it is all a matter of opinion, but the best pizza is Calicanto, the best Italian is at Rosa Negra on Ave. A and Calle 4, the best bar is a tossup between HaRy at La Compañia and Element on Calle 3 and, sorry, Casablance is a tourist trap, and is the only one I felt shouldn’t be on the list (beside the rooftop nightmares). However, Casablanca’s taqueria Nextdoor is the place to go…better food, better prices and still with the ambience of Plaza Bolivar. This might have been an impossible task and it really all does come down to a matter of personal preference and is subjective. But my general advice would be avoid the rooftops, avoid the tourist traps like Casablanca, avoid the restaurants along Ave. A near Plaza Herrera with the street hawkers, and seek out the true locals for coffee, cocktails and good food. Ask any Casqueno…we will point you in the right direction.
