Dude, you need to go back there and do a second video and eat at these places. Fat Cats hidden away near the boat dry docks in Avila has really good food. But the native bees really like pancake syrup from breakfast and buzz the open air dining area. I go anyway as do a surprising number of diehard customers. They have indoor dining as well to avoid being buzzed but rock music is playing. Giuseppe’s in Pismo is the iconic family owned pizza place that has lasted through generations, it has authentic Italian pizza made with semolina flour like Italian pizza is. They have a little old take out shop near their big pizza parlor where you can get to-go pizza, stromboli, sandwiches, gilotto, and an heirloom beet & spring greens salad with vinaigrette dressing as well as a deli with a good selection of meat & salami & the shop has lots of imported Italian products. In Arroyo Grand’s village, the Village Grill also an old business has really great food, it is way better than Rooster Creek, its on the North side of the street. The fancy restaurants there aren’t as good. In Oceano Sylvesters is the best burger shop in the five cities. Family owned. It has been there for decades. Since the 70s at least. On Grand ave the train station grill ‘The Station Grill’ is a nice little sandwich & burger shop with great atmosphere. I find it more desirable than the bigger restaurants on grand & its not often packed with tourists. UMI sushi which is next to the bicycle shop on Grand is the best sushi anywhere, not just in the 5 cities, also an old business its small & tucked away behind a hedge shading its front patio dining. On the beach on the seaside area next to Le Sage manufactured home park and the golf course, there is a little restaurant hidden away. I don’t know what they call it now as it has changed hands a few times. My mother’s friend takes her out of town relatives there. She said they have new owners & great food according to her. They always had great drinks and live bands in the evening. Very romantic. Best mexican food is probably Tapatia, but its a take out in this little building in the community area south of Grand ave. There used to be Me & Z’s on Grand that was really good but the owner retired and the building is a new fish place I haven’t been to. I’d go to Old Juan’s Cantina instead for best atmosphere & drinks, they have really good Mexican food now, must have hired a new chef. Best underrated seaside restaurant for viewing the ocean while eating is the Spy glass inn, which is also an old landmark restaurant where you can sit outside up on the cliffs at a table under a beach umbrella and eat. All their food is good & they are not likely to be mobbed by tourists because people think its just part of the hotel. Shell beach has a bunch of popular little old restaurants on the strip that have given themselves a face lift recently. Zorros is still very popular.
Munchiez on the Mesa actually has really good food. Though their macaroni salad that comes with the teriyaki bowls is too acidy from too much vinegar. I don’t know how they are blind to that… when I order the teriyaki bowl I tell them, “no macaroni” and to do two helpings of steamed broccoli instead. That fixes it.

My home...I grew up there too. My parents owed the Foster's Freeze on Grand...its a not so great Mexican restaurant now. Moved away 2023 I miss it everyday.

I don't know how this popped up in my feed, but I'm glad it did. What a fun video. I'm in Grover Beach and was just at Pismo Pier yesterday. Love that place. The central coast, especially SLO County, is kind of perfect. There's everything from mountains to the beach to a little city life to quiet country. It all has that small town feel, too. I've been to most of the places you mentioned. Favorite spot for me - Shell Beach. The sunsets are the best.

Klondikes is the best pizza in the world. I grew up here too and it's the gold standard that all pizzas are compared to. The owners got embarrassed when I told them that once lol but it's true. Old West get the pecan roll with a side of frosting to dip it in as you eat it. They are also the gold standard cinnamon rolls that all others are compared to. The chowder bread bowl you have to split it between 2 or 3 people!
