Heep's record is the album of the year for me. They prove that age is no barrier to rockcellence 🙂 and it had to be a great album to follow Living the Dream. Hope you have a very happy New Year, Barry. Nick 🙂
Well I would say Rival Sons Darkfighter was the best rock album of the year, didn’t like Metallica’s or The Stones albums, the latter is unlistenable due to the horrible production and the songs don’t engage me at all. Wasn’t keen on QOTSA either… sorry!
Jagger "... sporting a face like a chewed toffee" ... Oh, hilarious quote from Barry. I've also noticed that the older Mick gets the more he resembles Don Knotts.
@@VuTrinh-c9n 😵💫 that was a joke heckler, and obviously you'll just turn it around and say that's what your comment was.. Anyway, it took you long enough to "attempt" humor, but it only smelled like sarcasm to me..
Hiya.Your wearing your Stones t shirt but in my heyday of going to a thousand gigs ( so to speak) they were amongst the worst I ever went to frankly. To be fair however once you had been to see Motorhead I quickly realised that many bands were actually pretty dull live.My only exception was seeing The Ramones which blew me away at the old "Humming bird" in birmingham way back when. You dont need clever music and ridiculous stage effects to knock you out, just simple, loud and pure energy.
Hackney Diamonds is my favorite album of any genre in 2023. Production is slick but it’s still just pure Stones top to bottom. Ironically, Metallica’s 72 Seasons was so forgettable to me I’ve yet to listen to it in full. “Lux Aeterna” felt like false advertising frankly - so fast and punchy, I was excited for a true classic throwback to Kill ‘Em All. Then the rest of the album plods along like a dying horse, more akin to the Reload or Death Magnetic than anything else. On the plus side, 72 Seasons gave me new found appreciation for Megadeth’s 2021 masterpiece The Sick Dying and the Dead.
Extreme is probably my disappointment of the year. A bit toothless and the guitar work very generic. Nuno has lost the funk. After a million years of them being away I was so looking forward to this.
1. Jeff Rosenstock- Hellmode 2. Underscores- Wallsocket 3. Jane remover- Census designated 4. 100 Gecs- 10,000 Gecs 5. Geese- 3D country 6. Zulu- A new tomorrow 7. Model/Actriz- Dogsbody 8. Sprain- The lamb as effigy 9. Hellripper- Warlocks grim and withered hags 10. Liturgy- 93696
Loads of great newer bands put out great records this year. Blood Ceremony, Purling Hiss, The Bites, Ghost Hounds (who opened for the Stones btw), ive got a whole list of em on my phone. There is loads of great new music, peoole are just too lazy to look.
I'd agree with Heep being in there but that's about the only one that would make my top 10 for this year.... along with the likes of Twisted Rose, DeWolff, Crown Lands, Nitrate, Transworld Identity, Lalu and Greta Van Fleet....
Indeed! Greta Van Fleet is too good for the Grammy's!...they were robbed for not winning best rock album.🤬 STARCATCHER is another EPIC album!GO SEE THEM LIVE!!!🤘🤘🤘
Particularly fond of the Elegant Weapons album from Richie Faulkner.......most excellent (though we could have done without the Lights Out cover...excellent song though it is)
Greta Van Fleet's 'STARCATCHER' is the best rock album by far!! The fact that you didn't even mention them is pathetic. Have you even listened to it?? They are incredible musicians and Josh Kiszka's vocals are off the chain! The album is epic just like their previous album 'The Battle at Garden's Gate.' GO SEE THEM LIVE!!!🤘🤘🤘
You are brilliant. I’ve said this before with your review videos, you have such a great broadcasting voice and detailed descriptions which make you and this channel stand out above so many who do similar things. Wonderful! Also a great insight into so much music and new bands, or bands I’ve not known of. I think of your too 10 I’d probably only heard of 3, the obvious 3 big mainstream acts! I’ll be checking out all these others too Great work. Keep it coming! 👍👍👏👏
Regarding the Winery Dogs album III - did it ever get a UK release or is it just on import only? It was going for silly money on Amazon and now is "currently unavailable!
My top 10 #1 Raising ravens- walking with the half light #2 Any given sin- war within #3 Gideon - more power more pain #4 Motive black - auburn 5 Cold stares- voices #6 Pop evil- skeletons #7 Phil Campbell and the basterd sons- kings of the asylum #8 Saul- this is it..the end of everything #9 Buckcherry- 10 #10 Tyler Bryant- dirty work
Interesting that you say that Hackney Diamonds is better than The last two. I briefly owned Bridges To Babylon, but sold it quickly. I never bought A Bigger Band. You don't think that the Don Was produced ones are polished? Also, Dark Fighter and Lightbinger are companion albums. The covers are dead giveaways. They both feature tigers. Btw, did you say Mark Potnoy? Of course, they don't disappear up their arses. They aren't supposed to be Prog. I don't have a lot of these. Just Hackney Diamonds
This may have been a pretty lifeless year for music for me, but the release of a new studio album of original material from The Rolling Stones took me off guard, as well as a new song by The Beatles.
Great List, my best of the year, would be Nothing But Thieves with Dead Club City, followed by Gunship with Unicorn, these two are Outta sight of anything else , although my top 3 completed by Those Damn Crows with Inhale/Exhale.
Your number 1 was same as mine! Nice! Here’s my top 10- 1. The Winery Dogs - III 2. KK’s Priest - The Sinner Rides Again 3. Metallica - 72 Seasons 4. Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds 5. Dokken - When Heaven Comes Down 6. Peter Gabriel - I/O 7. Winger - Seven 8. Depeche Mode - Memento Mori 9. Mammoth WVH - II 10. Ann Wilson and Tripsitter - Another Door
Glad you had The Answer on your list. I missed that they had released a new album. Otherwise I dont agree on anything on your list. The only album on their with a remote chance to get on my list is Rival Sons but it probably wont make it.
Beyond rock, Hackney Diamonds is the best album of the year for me. Followed by Raye’s My 21st Century Blues. Desire, I Want to Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek, But Here We Are by Foo Fighters, and This Is Why by Paramore round up the top five.
Glad you mentioned Extreme's Six. My favourite this year is by far Billy Talent's Crisis of Faith. Honorable mention: Falling in Reverse's single Watch the World Burn.
This was the first Winery Dogs album I didn't buy and the second The Answer album I didn't get. I haven't bought a Gov't Mule studio album of original material since "The Deep End, Volume 2". Looks like I may have to get back on board.
A few personal honourable mentions: Bad Touch - Bittersweet Satisfaction, Elegant Weapons - Horns for a Halo, Vandenburg - Sin, Tygers of Pan Tang - Bloodlines, The Defiants - Drive. Keep up the sterling work looking forward to what’s to come in 2024. What’s with the Winery Dogs III and its lack of physical format availability in the UK? Not available Amazon or HMV and daft prices on eBay.
Hello Barry. I hope you have had a good festive period. Excellent albums there. I'm currently listening to Uriah Heep. How are they able to produce an album this good this far down the line musically? Same with Saxon. I prefer their older material but their newer stuff is still impressive to listen to. I've got all the above albums on a Spotify playlist so they should keep me 'busy' (lazing around on my arse!) for a while 😆
